HEALTHY WAFFLE RECIPE
Ingredients:
1/2 cup Greek yogurt (130g)
1/2 cup milk, dairy or non dairy (120ml)
3 tbsp unsweetened applesauce
1 tbsp melted butter or coconut oil
1 tbsp maple syrup, honey or agave
1 egg or 1 flax-egg
1.5 cup ground oats or oat flour (150g)
1 tbsp cornstarch or tapioca starch
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
NUTRITIONAL INFO (per waffle):
140 calories, fat 4.3g, carb 19.6g, protein 5.8g
Preparation:
In a bowl, add the Greek yogurt, milk, applesauce, coconut oil and maple syrup, and mix until combined.
Then, add the ground oats, cornstarch, baking powder and salt, and mix just until the batter is formed. Set aside to rest for 10 minutes.
While the batter is resting, pre-heat your waffle maker and grease with some melted butter or coconut oil to prevent sticking.
Pour the batter on a hot waffle maker using a cookie scoop or your measuring cup. How much batter? That actually depends on the type of your waffle maker.
Cook for 3-4 minutes, or until crispy and golden crust is formed.
Let it cool on a wire rack 5 minutes, then serve with your favorite topping and dig in.
Enjoy!

Exactly, oats are definitely less expensive, especially if you grind your own oat flour, and I also enjoy the taste of the oats.

This recipe is great! I tried it twice (although I tweaked it both times). The first time I did 2 TBsp butter and 2 TBsp applesauce, and I added more milk. The second time I didnt have eggs so I added a small piece of mashed banana, along with the first 2 tweaks I mentioned. Both times they were super good!

It is worth noting that using a detergent cleaner on a waffle plate is never recommended kzread.infoUgkxUfphIgghPSpAXNq6OG2WRYsFVqylcqMn though people who don't understand about kitchen hygiene won't understand that a stiff brush is all that is necessary to clean the inside of the unit. Let it cool slightly but still perform the cleaning while it's warm. I used to have a Black and Decker unit that I just loved, and was concerned when we had to replace it that I might not find one that I like just as much. This one does it for me.

Yes, you could do that too, but put the batter in the fridge as soon as possible, to slower the leavening reaction. Also I would go with 1 tsp baking powder instead of 2, and maybe make the batter even more thick, adding a bit less milk.

You can actually make them even healthier, all you need to make waffles are 3 ingredients: oat flour, milk and baking powder, the rest are just for flavoring

I respectfully disagree. Easier with fewer ingredients, yes, but homemade applesauce and NF Greek yogurt are healthy additions. And a miniscule 1 tablespoon each of coconut oil and honey (my personal favorites instead of unhealthy processed fats and sugars that are out there) are not unhealthy and do add to the taste and texture. I followed his recipe exactly and was blown away! Since I'm trying to stay gluten-free, per my rheumatologist, I intend to use these waffles as a bread for sandwiches as well!

Do you know what the measurements are for the recipe your talking about??

  • @clausch.3517

    @clausch.3517

    3 жыл бұрын

@@sarahsantos4001 Same volume of oat flour as milk, for example: half a cup of oat flour and half a cup of milk. Keep in mind that oat absorbs liquids so you may have to keep an eye on the milk used. As for the baking powder I use between half and 3/4 of a teaspoon per half a cup of oat flour. Add some vanilla extract and cinnamon or cocoa powder and you're good to go.

I love both pancakes and waffles it’s hard to decide if one is better than the other. It was also funny to hear about people calling you “Mr. Oats” Once again thank you for another amazing recipe. & I thought of another suggestion, if possible I’d love to see you make Lemon Poppyseed Muffins or Bread.

Me too, I'll be rotating this recipe and 3-ingredient pancakes for my breakfast for a long time, I'm sure about that:) Yeah, this Mr. Oats is so funny, but I can relate to that, because I have no plan quiting my oats. Lemon Poppyseed Bread, why not, I'll give it a try.
