He Was The Next Kevin Durant At 15 Years Old! What Happened To Emoni Bates? Stunted Growth

Спорт

Today’s feature is a player that I shouldn’t be writing about on a page like this, who in just 2019 was on the cover of the biggest sports magazine possibly to ever exist in sports illustrated, calling him next in line. Born for this was the caption beside Bates, as names like Michael Jordan, Lebron James and Magic Johnson placed underneath, as if to crown the beginning of what was supposed to be the new NBA superstar in the making. He was just 15 years old. At that point I don’t think anyone scoffed at him being placed on the cover, nor compared to the likes of all time great players, because by then the new age media machine of instagram, and the almighty KZread had for years held him up as what’s next, especially when it comes to his comparisons to Kevin Durant. Fast forward to 2022 and just about all those top rated kids he reclassified to join has passed him by, he’s finished one of the most disappointing seasons a top prospect had maybe ever, at least in a long time, and has recently left Memphis to join one of the worst teams in college basketball in Eastern Michigan, who haven’t reached the NCAA tournament since 1998. Hopefully this story is too soon, but the way it looks, with Emoni the player and the movements made on his behalf in critical times in his career, this could be long overdue. What happened to the next Kevin Durant Emoni Bates?

I still say he should have never reclassified and should have spent his last year if high school at a school like Oak Hill or IMG. He would have learned to played with other high level players which would have made the transition to college easier

Yeah, I was thinking something similar. He never should've reclassified....Man, his dad, while he may be a good person has just made one wrong move after another with his son. But anyway, he should've just played his senior year at, as you said, Oak Hill or Montverde or IMG or any other of those basketball factories so he could learn how to play with other talented players....it was so obvious he wasn't ready for college bball last season, and another yeah of high school against top competition would've done so much for him

As a memphis fan and someone that watches him play all year for my college and I knew and heard about emoni and his crazy ass dad and his antics at games. Emoni wasn’t ready memphis doesn’t play in some super league they play in a league where your going against 3-5 year college players some maybe late second round draft picks and a lot of future over seas players, my point is he went against older guys and they understood the game at the college level better and took advantage of emoni for being to weak to guard and him getting lost on switches and letting him think taking long 3 points is a good shoot in college. Emoni was a good guy but his dad is the truth stunted growth this video should be on him, he made the prep school he took emoni out of traditional school and made his son go to college a year early while he should have been going to his senio year of high school and when you see other guys reclassified it’s because they’re physically ready and also they are joking they’re correct class. A lot top prospects play a year behind in competition in high school and aau because they’re more developed so when they say I’m graduating early and going to college it’s they’re correct class that’s all.

Youth sports has become TOO MUCH of a business. Everyone trying to make business moves instead of following the CHARTED process that has been successful so many times over. This young man’s father was thinking too far ahead on a faulty strategy. Instead of letting a good thing continue to be good, he jumped in to halt the process, and recreate his own, “better” way. Which may end up being THE WORST way. And the damage could already be done. Who knows what Emoni feels about himself, about his efforts, about basketball in general.

@@greggcrawford124 I mean do get me wrong I love Gilbert and he just now starting out in this zone. Now is he right all the time no but to a degree he is like what said about the Greek Freek is true. He doesn't 100% understand the game and how it played over her in the US yet he's almost there. He still can work on his IQ and add more fundamental to his game. Everyone had a problem with him saying and I don't. I don't have a problem with Gilbert being a Og in the game someone that has played in the league over a decade someone who was a all-star and had Kobe Bryant respect remember he put like 66 up on Kobe Bryant so yeah I don't have problem with him talking with these youngsters getting to no them putting them on game because that what the young guys need nowadays. The problem is the league is to young we don't have a lot of veterans in the league like it was when I watched basketball in the 90s. Now with Emoni he should have stayed in High school you can't rush shit . Tracy McGrady came out of High school Class of 1997. Kobe Bryant came out of high school class of 1996 it was risky still for both they did get things going until 98-99 it took like 2 years. Dwayne Wade same thing tried to rush shit instead of going to a D-1 school small school. Just because you think you can dominate your talent no show me.
