    One of my favorite singer songwriters spanning many decades. I had so many of his records. He had tons of hit songs. "Cherry, Cherry", "Kentucky Woman", "Red Red Wine", "Solitary Man", "Sweet Caroline", "Holly Holy", "Cracklin' Rosie", "Song Sung Blue", "Longfellow Serenade", "Desirée", "You Don't Bring Me Flowers". One of my favorites is "I Am, I Said" which is almost an autobiography of his life & fame. He wrote the song "I'm A Believer" which became a big hit for the Monkees in 1966. I was privileged to see him in concert twice. He was a great showman & his live performances were memorable.

    I love Neil Diamond! But, you guys have really only listened to some of his ballads. When I think of him, I'm boppin' to all of his upbeat songs like "Sweet Caroline", "Cracklin' Rosie", "Cherry, Cherry", "Kentucky Woman", "Thank the Lord for the Night Time", and if you really want emotional soaring you have to listen to "America". So for your next Neil song, I would suggest checking out the other side of him.

  • @measl

    @measl

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@yaimavol *You have to understand a few things about the period for this not to be creepy... First off, Boomers were the first generation not expected to be married (with kid on the way) by the time we hit 19. Nevertheless, up until roughly 1970, "Sweet Sixteen" parties were celebrated because they marked the point at which girls became "Eligible women". 14 may have been a bit younger than generally approved of, but it wasn't exactly shocking at the time.* *Second, he is reflecting the way the entire country felt about the Kennedy family. Every person alive at the time knows "November 22nd", and can remember the approximate time (around noon): the same was that people remember September 11. Everyone quite literally **_loved_** the remaining Kennedys. I never took this song as the creeper it is seen as today, I just figured he was mixing his present day reality with a possible future fantasy (that did not necessarily include Caroline K),which would have been pretty common for music at the time.*

    Great story about Neil Diamond. He used to routinely play at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles which was nestled in the hills and surrounded by trees. People who either couldn’t afford the tickets or it was sold out, they would climb up into the trees where they could watch and listen. Patrol usually made those people leave but Neil insisted the “tree people” be allowed to stay or he’d refuse to play. Groovy!!

    They always play Sweet Caroline at Fenway Park. After the marathon bombing, Neil showed up at Fenway as a surprise and sang it. Very emotional event with the audience holding hands and singing together after such an awful event.

    @@shirleycollins6241 It was especially meaningful as the city was hurting and in shock. Neil showing up unexpectedly and giving us that experience of being one was special. He'll always be a hero in Boston.

    In a musical sense the man is a genius. A few other Neil Diamond classics to check out, and there are many more, are Love On The Rocks, Hello Again, Beautiful Noise, Morningside, Stones, Glory Road, Girl You’ll Be A Woman Soon, I’m Glad You’re Here With Me Tonight and, my all time favourite Play Me. All beautiful songs sung to perfection.

    Would love for you to react to Neil’s “anthem”…America. He wrote this song to honor his grandmother,who came to America by boat,as a very young child. He always displays her picture at his concerts as he sings this. He sings from his heart…so much emotion. Perfect time of year to introduce this song!

    Neil stopped performing in 2018,due to Parkinson’s disease. Beautiful Noise,a play of his life story,coming out in Boston…then Broadway. Can’t wait to see if Will Swenson can fill those big shoes!🔥❤️💎

    He and Barbra Streisand went to the same high school, sang in the same school choral groups, have always been friends. That song always has me imagining he’s singing it to her. Just a little fantasy of mine. I love your reaction. TY
