Amber nailed it with the liquid courage: The one that stuck with him was about a reservation where men outnumbered women. Over the weekend, “these poor chaps would rush down to their local general store and get themselves a large bottle of a very cheap wine called Crackling Rose. The story goes that the wine becomes their woman for the weekend.

"Cracklin' Rosie" is a bottle of wine. Diamond got the idea for the song from a folk story of an Indian tribe in Northern Canada who had more men than women. On Saturday nights when they go out, the guys all get their girl; the guys without girls get a bottle of Cracklin' Rosé, that's their girl for the weekend. Please review Holly Holy, one of his best and most powerful songs, and make sure you choose one of the live versions, e.g. the 1971 BBC TV Special. Neil is awesome there, just a man and his guitar, and that fantastic voice!

She is fine wine, He composed for many people he wrote songs for the Monkees IM a believer, First song of his I heard was Solitary man, great song,

mom and dad used to crank the neil diamond up on the 8 track as we traveled to and fro his duty assignments in the u.s.a.. he was a usaf pilot. anywho...... the first opportunity i, as an adult, had to see him live, i could not afford the price. oh the regrets over that miss. then he toured again later in my life and the price doubled. it's crazy to me that performers outprice themselves so much so that humble fans cannot attend. just sayin'.
Hell Yeah and The Story of My Life are two under appreciated songs, but they are touching songs that reflect on his devotion to his love and no regrets how he has lived his life. Perfect sampling of his fantastic writing,as well as singing works!🔥❤️💎
LOVE ON THE ROCKS LIVE PERFORMANCE IS A GREAT NEIL DIAMOND 💎 SONG 🎵 👌
LOVE ON THE ROCKS ISCA GREAT SOLO NEIL DIAMOND 💎 SONG 🎵
Sweet Caroline is his signature song.
Neil is a deep, DEEP rabbit hole to dive into. I would strongly recommend: "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show" (With Amber having grown in rural Georgia, I think she would absolutely LOVE that one), "Solitary Man" and "Sweet Caroline"
You should do Cherry Cherry by Neil Diamond next. And please do Run to Me by the Bee Gees. Love you guys.
Sweet Caroline is a College team's football anthem before the 4th quarter, like Jump Around is WISCONSIN BADGERS Anthem!
More Neil Diamond, the greatest singer song writer of all.
It’s about wine. Getting buzzed. How it makes you loose and sing. Lol I LOVE NEIL DIAMOND!!!!!! When my daughter was a baby I used her out her to sleep to Neil Diamonds voice. She’s 20 now and she likes him.
Neil DIamond is the ultimate sing-a-long artist. Not many songs of his that people just don't want to crank up and sing when in the car.

The interesting thing about this reaction is that Jay said that it was a "slow" side of Neil Diamond for him.... yet he liked I am I said and You don't bring me flowers.... those were SLOW... I think Cracklin Rosie was one of his more upbeat ones. My personal favorite!
Crackling Rosie, Sweet Caroline, and Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show all classic '70's Neil. Brings back so many memories.

Yes! Someone else mentioned it in one of the replies but I’ve been surprised that no one else has. It was huge back in the day! And watching these ND reaction videos I’ve often thought of that line, “Funny thing, but you can sing it with a cry in your voice.” I never really thought about it before but he definitely sings with a cry in his voice. Part of that unique Neil Diamond style.
Neil in a flash suit…up on a stage…you got it in Neil’s duet with Shirley Bassey…Play Me! Do it!
This is my favorite Neil diamond song just fell in love first time I seen this video 🥵🔥😍
How can you not love this song? It’s so good!!!
"Cracklin' Rosie" was a cheap brand of rose wine that was popular with the composer.
One of my favorites from him.
Neil Diamond was one of the most sought after song writers in the 60's, then one day he stopped writing for others and started doing his own songs. He stated in an interview he just got tired of writing for others and then they did not sing his songs as he had written them. The Monkee's did a great version of his song, "I'm a Believer". The wife and I saw Diamond in concert (in Tulsa) back in the mid-70's. Ninety minutes without a break with no intro band to warm audience. IMO, 'Hot August Night' is his best album.
LOVE ON THE ROCKS IS A GREAT SOLO NEIL DIAMOND 💎 SONG 🎵
"Brother Love's Travelin Salvation Show", and "Kentucky Woman" are two of my favs!! I love Neil Diamond, I was almost dizzy seeing him in concert! He was SEXY!
I was lucky to see Neil Diamonds in concert back in the 90's. (He is a gorgeous man) Been a fan from the beginning. "Solitary Man " is awesome. "Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show" "Cherry, Cherry" " Holly Holy" " Play Me " So many great songs.
Forever in Blue Jeans! Ya!❤❤
singer, song writer, legend
Neil Diamond wrote 4 songs for The Monkees. " I'm A Believer", " A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You", " Lookout Here Comes Tomorrow", and " Love to Love *. " Crackling Rosie" was released in August of 1970. The song topped the charts in October of that year.

I miss mine as well. When we are young we have so much time, but time has a way of creeping up on us. I always thought when I was younger that our family was immune to what was the inevitable - we weren't.. ..none of us are. The memories are the gifts we hold forever. ✌❤
"Dry Your Eyes" is my favorite Neil Diamond song. Written with Robbie Robertson, of The Band, is about the murder of Dr. Martin Luther King & its after effects.
My favorite Neil Diamond - You Got To Me 1967. Love the harmonica!

There is no such thing as a bad Neil Diamond song.
Saw him in concert here in Dublin twice. The man could hold an entire audience in the palm of his hand. He's absolutely huge in Ireland
I don't think there has ever been, or likely to ever be,an artist that appeals to so many generations as Neil Diamond does. I have met 20 year olds and 80 year olds that really love him and his music.
Love Neil Diamond, he has so many great hits; Holly Holy, Sweet Caroline, Brother Love's Travelin Salvation Show, Kentucky Woman, Cherry Cherry, America, I Am I Said, Solitary Man, on and on.
This is a song that I thought everyone knew. Played at all sports events and stadiums - everyone sings...At least everyone over 45.

I don’t know if they were on the same album but I think they were all some of the earliest Neil Diamond songs I knew. What a special way to remember your mom! A feeling of community and a momentary respite from grief on what I’m sure was a very tough day.
Neil Diamond could sing the phone book and make it sound good. Such a rich and totally unique voice. Also, Neil Diamond was a hit music making machine back in the day. For himself and others.

Crackling Rose was a wine. This is a song about wine.

LOVE ON THE ROCKS LIVE PERFORMANCE IS A REALLY GREAT NEIL DIAMOND 💎 SONG 🎵 👌
Neil Diamond had/has a great voice and interesting intonations. He had a lot of songs that sound emotionally deep.
This song became Neil Diamond's first #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the early fall of 1970. This is the first of his three #1 hits of the 1970s. A beautiful song alright.
Live performance by Neil Diamond with the BBC orchestra Electric Proms doing one of his earliest hits "Holly Holy"
Heartlight is my favorite Neil Diamond song. Hello, Love on the Rocks, Sweet Caroline, and September Morn are great too.
Classic warning…one of his best
Neil Diamond is a treasure, such an amazing singer writer.
If you haven’t checked out Neil’s movie it’s called The Jazz Singer. You will be in for a treat
I saw him in concert at a Madison Square Garden, sitting in the 12th row up front. Dancing in the aisle to Sweet Caroline was heaven!
His first big hit was from the 60's. "Cherry Cherry" Great song. A favorite from my teen years.
I remember having this on a 45 record. Played it over and over. From the generation that remembers putting the plastic ‘spider’ in the center of 45s.
First time listening to Neil Diamond. I loved the relaxing "ambience" of the song.
My favorite song by Neil Diamond is forever in blue jeans. It's my and my husband's song.
Yeah, this is definitely one of Neil's big hits. Haven't heard this in a while. Cheers to everyone who suggested it.
I love Neil Diamond! And more than that, his backup singers! Glad you are listening to this one, its a classic!
When Neil Diamond's voice got low (Oh, you know, my Rosie child, you got the way to make me happy), all the grammas felt some kinda way. His growly voice got the job done, friends. My mom looooooved Neil Diamond.
My Dad's favorite. Buried him while this song was playing.
"Crackling Rosé" is the name of an inexpensive sparkling wine once produced by Andres Wines of British Columbia, Canada, which was popular among the Indigenous population. One story suggests that Diamond heard a story about a native Canadian tribe while doing an interview in Toronto, Canada-the tribe had more men than women, so the lonely men of the tribe would sit around the fire and drink their wine together-which inspired him to write the song.
His voice is so unique!
it might be one of his earliest songs but its also one of his most beloved by the audience. I saw him live about twenty odd years ago (what a laugh, with my parents) .. the man is sleek, sexy and his voice OMG.. ageless and timeless.
I've been a Neil Diamond fan ever since his first hit "Solitary Man", love his voice!
I saw him in 85' at the Cow Palace in SF. He stopped the show 3 times to thank the audience for supporting him. Truly one of the most gracious performers ever. Like many with talent that you review here, not a bad song in his repertoire. And his real last name is Diamond. He almost chose the stage name of Ice Cherry but he said that he would not have been able to explain to his grandmother why his real name wasn't good enough so he kept it.
"Do It", "The Boat That I Row", "Shilo", "Brooklyn Roads", "Play Me", "Songs of Life", "Holly Holy" are all excellent. You can also get a megadose of Neil as he starred in the remake of the movie "The Jazz Singer"...
