In defense of Orko: Orko is magical and funny. However in his home planet, he's a badass who gets the girl. Orko has helped He-Man many times and occasionally saves the day with his magic. He once saved Teela and Man-At-Arms from Trapjaw by making him shoot a "Bang!" sign out of his weapon. They didn't put Orko in the 1987 He-Man movie and it bombed. Let's keep Orko and his goofy ass.

Well, it's explained that in Orko's home dimension he's actually a VERY powerful mage, one of the most powerful in fact. Unfortunately Eternia has different rules governing magic and physics, leading to him being reduced to little more than a jester.

it's better if he needs more time to cast spells and protection from an interruption at that moment, that's would explain why he stay with He-man ))

It was explained later in other media that the reasons Orko’s magic doesn’t work is because it’s just a front. He’s a Trollan spy and he’s purposely failing at magic to keep up the facade. He’s actually one of the most powerful sorcerers on Eternia.

I think he also has a wand or magic pyramid that he lost, which is the source of 90 percent of his power.

I think Orco is great as a friend to Adams princely persona. He always stands up for him and it gives that side of him a chance to show its own strengths and also gives him a friendship that isn’t based off bonds forged in combat. I think the tragedy of his character being a once great magician before he came to Eternia gives him some depth and interest

Orko's character is there to give additional depth to the other characters and provide a stand-in for the children watching the show. He makes lots of mistakes, gets in trouble, and is often grounded. But He-Man and Prince Adam help and defend him while Duncan and Randor (father figures) have to learn to be patient and tolerate him. By helping an annoying character grow and supporting him when he loses confidence or beats himself up, they gain an opportunity to model ideal behavior and show themselves to be good people. Orko's stories always focus on the fact it's okay to make mistakes as long as you own up for them, take responsibility, and learn from them. He also has to be brave and try his best to help, even though his physical weakness and malfunctioning magic put him at a serious disadvantage. He has to learn to overcome his limitations and use his head to find creative solutions. That's why he's an important character.

Orko represents the unsung people of the setting. Sure, he's not as effective as many of the other heroes and villains, but that's the case for most people in the setting. For children he would've been a bit of an audience surrogate, seeing as he's small, naive, largely ineffective, and imperfect. He-man is a paragon and often teaches lessons in the episodes and in many of the end morals, and Skeletor is his bad example counterpoint, but Orko is who most often actually learns from those lessons. Orko does a good job explaining why he was initially in the wrong, as well as a good job establishing why the right thing to do makes sense both morally and practically, breaking stuff down for kids who might otherwise fail to understand the morals, due to age or misunderstanding. MOTU was designed with childrens' interests in mind, and that's why it was such a huge hit with kids at the time, both as a toy and a show. The original comics are brutal, though, that universe's version of Skeletor might be one of the single most evil beings in fiction, he has absolutely killed more people, planets, and dimensions than anyone else I can think of, even he doesn't have a solid number, but he claims that "billions of souls" have fallen to him, and then refers to himself as "the death... of everything", and I don't think it's empty boasting either, comic Skeletor genuinely just wants to murder and destroy, he's even called a demon, though so are most weird creatures in those comics.

The cross on He-Man's harness is actually known as a Moravian Cross. Adam's hair style is not a bowl cut but a pageboy haircut. Very much in line for young men in the Middle Ages, although it did have a revival for women in the 1950s.

Filmation He-Man is a TOY. He was created in a TV cartoon that was the most awful POS cartoon ever put on TV. There was not a single good story on that show, ever. And no good action, ever. There was nothing about it that was good. Ot was just a 30 minute commercial for toys.

Orko was a fine character. A powerful magician who was handicapped on Eternia, but maintained his optimism and shouldered on to aid his friends and do what was right. Little kids could relate to him compared to the adult figures, and he helped reinforce the lessons of the day. Scrappy-Doo or Cousin Oliver, he freaking wasn't.

Having watched the original series, in Orko's defense, or I suppose an excuse for his defense in existing, I would describe him as being a pointed lump of play on a larger piece of clay, that larger piece of clay being the whole show, in a comparative way for some people he's really irritating, but for others he's tolerable, for me he's tolerable, and furthermore if you take him away some wouldn't notice much of a difference, much with the clay example, whilst others would notice far more of a difference, me being one of those people. Really I guess it's just a matter of perspective.
