I agree. I've been using it for years.

Man, I put a simple TV antenna on my window and hooked this up. I got so many channels! But I don't care for sports and there is hardly any good shows on these days, especially on CW. I'll never admit regretting this thing, though lol I like having it integrated to my Jellyfin server.

I'm really impressed with the dual tuner Zapperbox DVR. It might cost a little more, but the customer support is outstanding! I was having trouble with a couple NextGen channels being locked , so within days they wrote a software update to fix the problem. Now I can watch or record all the channels in Minneapolis.

I have been using the quad unit and the recorder quad version for quite a while now and they are two of the best things I have done since I cut the cord. I use them with my Plex server (50TB's). I never have to sit through a program and commercials. Forgot to mention that one of my units it capable to receive the new 3.0 OTA. Unfortunately Boise Idaho so far does not have any 3.0 OTA stations but I am ready when they are available.

Great video topic! I can never get sound to work reliably through their Roku app on Samsung TVs. Very disappointing. I wish there was a competitor available with working sound.

I guess HD Homerun has some advantages over just hooking an antenna to your TV.

the premium tv service is defunct. Still good if you have good access to OTA channels, you can even use their dvr service with either their servio device or a raspberry pi.

Any antenna will do. Even the old one you used 20 years ago if it is still intact. There is no such thing as an HD antenna. Its a marketing scam. An antenna made of coat hangers cut to the correct length will work.

I would appreciate some clarification. The Duo is dual tuners but only has one coax connector? How would one connect a second antenna? Using a two-to-one connector would just have the two signals stepping over the other, no?

I’m rather new to this and learning. I think just one antenna RF input, indeed, then the two tuners do their thing and put out two signals to the router network system for two TVs or tablets, etc., to pick up.

HD Homerun only works if you live in an area that has access to OTA signals. I live 120 miles from the closest city, so I would not be able to use something like this, since TV signals will not reach that far.

How do you save a channel to favorites

Sent mine back, could not discover ATSC 3.0 channels thru my ROKU's. On PC discovered 7 ATSC 3.0 channels, Win 10 needs app to play? Went to HDhomerun support, no help!

How would i be able to use this on a samsung Tv? And how did you get Univision? I am located in NYC and cant seem to find it

I have the quad-HD tuner version, and I will probably be getting the Prime in order to replace the Tivo Bolt I just retired. The HDHomerun DVR is much more reliable and stable than either SageTV or NextPVR ever were, but they seriously need to do something about that program guide. The design is criminally bad. I was going to get the 4K tuner, but it looks like nobody's going to be making an AC-4 codec for it, so I won't be able to edit shows for burning to Blu-Ray, not to mention they keep talking about putting DRM on ATSC 3.0...

is there a subscription fee?

My question for you serious if I use a VPN and change it to American will it bring out all the American channels or will I be stuck with Canadian channels even with a VPN

The network connection isn’t for receiving the channels. The network connection allows you stream the channels received over-the-air, to the devices connected to your network, in your home. So the answer to your question is no, a VPN won’t help you get American channels. The channels aren’t received over the internet, they’re received with the antennae attached to the device.

You don’t need an HD antenna you can use any antenna

There is no such thing as an HD antenna. There are VHF antennas and UHF antennas and combo antennas.

Your review neglects to mention than the HDhomerun does not support encryption (DRM), therefore, it is useless if purchased with the idea you will receive nexgen 3.0 broadcasts. Most nexgen 3.0 channels are now encrypted. And. if you are fortunate to be in a market where the channels are not encrypted, you will have no audio because this unit does not support the new audio format (unless you use their App for cloud service audio) But wait, there is no app for Samsung TVs' At least be upfront, it is not compatible with Samsung TVs and it is not certified to receive encrypted 3.0 channels therefore useless as a nexgen 3.0 4k tuner.
