Sauber were the first team to have withdrew from a race on safety grounds since Renault in 1979. Because Karl Wendlinger, 1 of their 2 men had a massive smash at the Nouvelle chicane during Thursday practice. Team owner Peter Sauber did not want Heinz Harald Frentzen, their other driver to succumb to the same thing!. He was in a coma for nearly 3 weeks!. From Joe. X

In the race, Sauber were the 1st team to withdraw from a race for safety reasons since Renault in 1979 following Karl Wendlinger's high speed smash at the Nouvelle chicane during qualifying, he was ker-plonkered!. In the end, Michael Schumacher took pole position, set the fastest lap and race win!. From Joe. X

Michael Schumacher won the race easily by securing pole position and the fastest lap!. He nearly went out of the race on Mark Blundell's oil slick from his tyrrell yamaha when his engine sneezed. From Joe. X

@joeandrews7329 I meant in qualifying. He was even 4 seconds slower than his teammate. That wouldn't be allowed to happen today.

No 107% rule then. The Pacific had a slightly better than F3000 car for this season. With the amount of withdrawn cars for this race, qualifying was a gimme for Pacific at least.
