Martin said that after the accident, he got into his spare car. He was all ready to go, then when Ken asked if he was ok Martin asked "which circuit are we at?" Ken then turned off the car and that was it.

@@dylansmit3883 yes he was nearly at the pit exit and over the radio ken told him to stop when he asked the question - brundle had an even bigger accident in dallas later in the year - nearly lost a foot.

It depends if they deemed there was a risk of the car going on fire. If there was a serious risk of that happening, get him out the bloody car. Better to risk a small chance of paralysis than guarantee him being roasted alive.

Agreed. As a child, I often wondered how on earth it managed to be at such an angle that he somehow didn’t break it, crush it, or even dislocate it!

There’s always someone who says this, no matter which generation it is. I remember seeing a vintage interview with graham hill where he says that people complain about the cigar cockpits because they can no longer see the hand movements and that racing wasn’t as impressive as it used to be. Takeaway was that someone’s always bitching
