I relate a lot to Sir Pentious and if you have social anxiety or are introverted then it can feel like you're always wearing a mask around other people, but when you're with friends who accept all of you then the mask comes off if even the person under the mask is an idiot. The Sir Pentious at the club is the real Sir Pentious and not the super villain persona he hides behind.

I love that his crush is his "nemisis" or "rival" Cherri Bomb. She is probably the closest person to him because they fight so often and before the hotel she was the closest thing to a friend he had. He had probably always admired her and because he has no idea how to deal with those emotions, chose to "playfully" fight with her. Even in the pilot he didn't seem to ever be trying to actually hurt her or Angel.

Sir Pentious is basically Megamind: he's someone who's convinced he has to fit in with less than reputable people, but is actually a big softie; even virtuous. That's the discontinuity in his character that makes him a comic foil, but also relateable. Everything he does betrays that he's an urchin who doesn't fit, even to the very end when he unexpectedly arrives in Heaven. He always tries his best, but his best always lands him in new unfamiliar territory where's right back to being the fool, not self possessed; not knowing what to do and just winging it. If this rolling stone ever stopped long enough to gather some moss, he'd be quite formidable.

The irony of the first redeemed one being of a snake kin is biblically interesting. Even more symbolism is that his redemption was done with help of dauther of primordial snake portrayed in the show as Lucifer. And in case of Sir Pentios it is double interesting due to being a victorian era possible inventor/scientist from London - the most materialistic setup for a character in afterlife who may have live through hardships of industrialization, moralistic victorian society already moving towards pure materialistic and progressive individualism. His altruism and self-sacrifice may be motivated in afterlife as a person of the final social transformation duting 19th century when collective interest behavior has already degraded and has shifted to personal interest, but still a strong feeling of duty to society and protecting others as a true merit of a gentleman. It is basically the redemption of the hardest sinner to redeem by biblical standards - which may show grey rules of Heaven in series or that the "fruit of knowledge" snake was not bad or a sinner by action itself as a parallel to Sir Pentious.

"Everyone is being too nice! OBVIOUSLY it must be a lie!" This line hit home way too hard on the first watch through because I spent most of the second half of my child/teen years with this mindset. I was a victim of bullying from almost everyone in my school minus my few friends, and then even after that they abandoned me so I was completely alone for a few years. And then suddenly from one year to the next, over 1 single summer vacation period, everyone did a 180 in their demeanor towards me. They went from belittling and humiliating me to acting like they were all my friends and thought I was cool. And I DID NOT BELIEVE A WORD OF IT. It was so inconsistent with my previous experiences with "the other people" that I was convinced they'd simply switched tactics. I'd defended myself from their explicit bullying for years, so then after this sudden change in demeanor I thought they were trying to ingratiate themselves with me just so that they could get close and hurt me more. Of course, this wasn't true. What actually happened is that they grew up. But I did not trust them for years, so I pushed anyone's attempts at connection or even friendly interaction because I was 100% sure that I "saw through them." I think I even tried calling one of my classmates out to their face on this, I have a faint memory of saying something like "oh please I know you don't actually care and are just putting up a façade" to one of them. Wasn't until one of the teachers had us talk about our past experiences in class (and thus gave me a chance to single out all those who had tormented me under the teacher's protection) that I began to realize they may not all be lying, because none of them remembered how much they made me suffer (which was its own brand of frustrating), and they felt so guilty when I brought it all up to their faces again. So yeah, this is a very real feeling. And I'm still not 100% rid of it. Getting there though.

But the extreme tenderness of the majority of the song and the beautiful harmony of his and Charlie's voices are so easy on the ears. ALSO! Fun Fact: The Club they're drinking at is called Consent. And I think, that it was also helpful for her to see, that someone recognises her as the person she is (that she is loyal and wants to protect those she loves), despite being a former exorcist angel.

I'd love to see a video analyzing the dynamic between Charlie, Angel, and Sir Pentious. Charlie fell into the "New and Shiny" trap with Sir Pentious. Angel felt a kind of way about Charlie's enthusiasm for Sir Pentious. When someone's working with a client but isn't progressing at the speed of another client, it can seem like you're giving up on one person for another. Angel outright said I'm a resident, too and I believe it was either Vaggie or Charlie who said, 'Yeah, but you're not trying.' Angel might not be progressing as fast as Sir Pentious, but he is progressing. He's trying in his own way.

16:23 i couldnt agree more. I have social anxiety and i still did ballet, theatre, i liked doing presentations at school, etc. Even though i never spoke until spoken to and even then I could barely speak above a whisper. On stage, you have a script. You know exactly what to do, how to move, you know how to dress, nobody will interrupt you, etc. Small gatherings are so much worse. You don't know if you're moving your arms normally, if you should stand or sit, you don't know if a joke will land or if you're monopolizing the conversation or not talking enough. Stage performances cut out all the guesswork. Talking without a script is basically on-the-spot improv.

So naturally Sir Pentious almost immediately became my comfort character and during the course of the show he even managed to steal my heart (real villainy right there). Oh man, I experienced so many different emotions during Pentious' sacrifice and redemption scenes, I had to pause the episode and take a breather! Thank you! I'm so happy you did a video on Sir Pentious! I really relate to this character: I'm an engineer with a background in the military, I tend towards anxious attachment and used to hide behind a facade to hide my sensitivity and how desperately I needed people to like me. And a bit over 30 years ago, at one of the lowest points in my life, I met my best friend, and everything changed. Now I have the brother I didn't realize I needed, an awesome sister-in-law, and two wonderful nieces who call me "Unc'. I was clueless that falling apart would lead to me finding my family, and I'm still struck by how lucky I am. There is a very subtle scene in the 1st minute of the episode where Charlie and Vaggie return from heaven: Sir Pentious is in the background, sitting on the couch. KeeKee 1st jumps on the couch behind his neck, and eventually ends up in his lap. He has this priceless expression on his face as he is petting KeeKee. To me, he looks completely shocked this little creature immediately trusted him and decided to snooze comfortably in his lap.

Throwing in a comment mid video for the algorithm: Personally as an autistic person, I vibe with Sir Pentious at the bit around 16:00. When it comes to acting or playing a character, I have an idea of how this character would act and speak and such in my head, and can effortlessly follow it, but when I'm not playing that character, it can be difficult to think or know what to do on the spot, and can lead to incredibly awkward and uncomfortable exchanges. Maybe that's why so many of us end up strongly associate with fiction, cartoons, or role playing, allowing us to build a character we can emulate, so to speak. Just an observation I've made!

Husk because we could parallel his situation to that of Angel Dust and see how similar they are beyond what we see in the show and also get to analyze the psychology of Husk in the moment where he angers Alastor. As for Vox. There are somethings in the show that make think the leader of the Vees has some kind of inferiority complex in his rivalry with Alastor. Nifty is my favorite character in Hazbin Hotel so I would love to see her covered next. I'm also again suggesting to cover the characters of Hazbin Hotels sister show Heluva Boss

Sir pentious is that dorky genius we all can see ourselves in. One way or mother which explains why he’s loved and deserves it.

I can't believe how much I can relate to Sir Pentious. He's basically me if I was a cartoon character.

I kinda want to see him become a toy maker in heaven since he's a builder and he's a playoff of toy villains like Cobra Commander.

I think it’s notable that in the acting scene, Angel had a script in front of him while Pentious didn’t, meaning he had memorized it

"More often then not, the problem is not that the problems we face can't be solved: The problem is that we become so afraid of failure that we refuse to see our problems from a new perspective. And we do the same things again and again and again. And theorin, of course, we find excatly the failure we were looking for" - Dr. Glen Pierce
