Have You Stopped Listening to Jesus? - Bishop Barron’s Sunday Sermon

Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus travels outside of Israel and heals a man of his deafness. Today, we live in a realm of spiritual deafness. We are bombarded with voices from outside, echoing around us until we are as incapable of hearing as the man from our Gospel. Like him, look to Jesus to heal you so that you might hear the word of God and understand his truth, rather than the lies of the world which surround us.

After six months , I received a call from our Pastor and invited me to be part of the evangelization program of the parish. I don’t know what this all entails but after deep discernment, I realized that there’s more to do than just nurse myself at home. “Be opened!” Our Pastor has assigned me to be the overall Coordinator of the program. Being opened to hearing can do amazing things. I remember when I wasn’t sleeping well, and decided to go to church before the early mass. I was sitting, listening to morning liturgy of the hours. The words were so beautiful, inviting, and welcoming of the new day. I didn’t forget those beautiful hymns and psalms. They would call me back as I made an effort to go and listen more. I finally purchased my own Christian prayer book, and I’m learning morning and evening prayers now. The words don’t rest with me as they did when I just sat and listened (I’m busy flipping pages), but at least I’m no longer wishing I knew how to pray those beautiful prayers.

Well said! I’m publishing a weekly KZread video on episodes from the life of Don Bosco, entitled ST JOHN BOSCO by JOE ZAMMIT. In this series I’m narrating events and miracles from the splendid life of Don Bosco. St John Bosco used to perform a miracle almost every day, through the intercession of Mary Help of Christians. From the lives of saints we can learn how to love God more and draw closer to him. Thank you.

I LOVE this "plugging in" analogy! Growing up, I had catechisis with a Franciscan Friar who explained the Church as like a "Socket Man" and even devised a lamp apparatus to plug in lights or take them out! Brilliant!🥰😌

A wonderful sermon again! All of us have become deaf to the Lord’s word, and my prayer is that we open our ears and spread the word of our God ever so slowly so that the “deaf” may hear. Thank you Bishop Barron for another wonderful sermon.

Thank you Bishop Barron for your great sermon today. In today's culture I think we are frightened by silence and we keep blocking it out with different forms of noise. So it's so easy to make ourselves deaf to the voice of God in our lives and it does courage to turn off our devices. But it's so worth it when we do.
