How to Fall in Love - Bishop Barron’s Sunday Sermon

Friends, our readings this weekend have to do with biblical anthropology-or who we are in the presence of God-and the Christian understanding of marriage. A basic intuition of the Bible is that we begin not with the individual, but with community. And marriage is the most beautiful and intense form of this friendship God desires for us.

I'm 30yr old female, dated guys for a short time, virgin, realized i was so wrong on my view about marriage, its either a burden of responsibilities or a euphoria of romance. this is video is what I needed and now I'm guided. Please pray for me my fellow Christians. I'm starting to rebuild my life by serving others and my community and hopefully one day, there's a man with the shared purpose that will be my best friend and husband in my life. I pray for every single ones here that we continue with faith in God. all the love ❤

Fulton Sheen’s book “Three to Get Married” points to God as the “transcendent third” in a good marriage. The spouses don’t just cling to each other (like two drowning people, he says!) but rather both cling to God. My experience as a married person is that Sheen was right.

When things were at their very worst: 2 Suns, Cross in the sky, 2 comets will collide = don`t be afraid - repent, accept Lord`s Hand of Mercy. Scientists will say it was a global illusion. Beware - Jesus will never walk in flesh again. After WW3 - rise of the “ man of peace“ from the East = Antichrist - the most powerful, popular, charismatic and influential leader of all time. Many miracles will be attributed to him. He will imitate Jesus in every conceivable way. Don`t trust „pope“ Francis = the False Prophet - will seem to rise from the dead - will unite all Christian Churches and all Religions as one. One World Religion = the seat of the Antichrist. Benedict XVI is the last true pope - will be accused of a crime of which he is totally innocent. "Arab uprising will spark global unrest - Italy will trigger fall out" "Many events, including ecological upheavals, wars, the schism in My Church on Earth, the dictatorships in each of your nations - bound as one, at its very core - will all take place at the same time." The Book of Truth.

@Roger Mills Never missing mass doesn't mean a person is holy. One could be in the church but daydreaming. You can be "immune" to mortal sin if you cling to God and regularly receive the sacraments. This means you're actually present and participating in mass, and also going to confession often. And of course, prayer.

Having brownies and ice cream while watching Bishop Barron is pure bliss 😋. At the end I had this realization looking at the the Bishop on screen, that he was someone’s son, that he came about through the love of his parents and them entering into this union under God that bore it’s fruit of children that now play a pivotal part in the community (especially with Robert Barron, imparting us with such great wisdom and knowledge). You could probably trace this back to many individuals other than the Bishop as well. Thank you Bishop Barron and the Word on Fire team for teaching us how important community and Catholic marriage is. May God continue to bless your ministry!

48 years with my spouse. Bishop Barron points out there are three in the marriage bond. Man, Women and God. I tell people that if God is not part of our marriage we would have left each other on several occasions. He was there to pull us back into our friendship. A lot of that glue is our Catholic faith.

The church should also be about community; it needs to help young people to meet... and young families to meet... and old people to not be alone. The Catholic Church needs to do MORE to make this happen if it wants to exist into the next century. The mass, tho it has it's rightful place and purpose, is not enough to bring people together. It is the Word but not the actions.

I'd tried to work things out logically, both for myself and past relationships, yet everything failed. I used to whine about God not bringing my soulmate to my life despite my efforts. Then I realized in the Genesis, Adam didn't whine about being single, then God put him in a deep sleep and "sleeping" in the Bible indicates "not paying attention". I'm now still single but i'm hopeful, and this might sounds naive but the bottom line is, those who feeling lonely just keep doing the works that God has brought to you, and when the time comes, you will find your blessing soulmate

Even further than the two people coming together under the guidance of God and producing children, this gospel passage also depicts the children, who are produced by the parents, running full force towards Christ, who accepts them whole-heartedly. Christ is so accepting of children. Let us too welcome the children into our lives and ultimately bring them towards Christ through proper education, which is necessarily caring, loving, and intellectually guided by the wisdom of the Church.

So true. The fact that people put their individual rights before everything in this age and time may be responsible for many marriages ending in divorce. Everone is trying to pull the blanket their way by expecting their spouse to make them happy rather than the contrary. This is the hardness of heart because of which Moses allowed divorce in the Old Testament. Certainly Christain partners who put Jesus- Agape at the center of their marriage stand a better chance to stay together in a self-giving, happy relationship.

What also makes a marriage long lasting is the realisation that God has brought you together: God has chosen this person to be your spouse, and so it is your vocation and your mission to love that person even if they are so horrendous and horrible, for every person is a gift; the knowledge that God has called you to love that person, and the knowledge that God sent that person to you and for you, and also you to that person, will give you strength on your journey and in your mission to love and evangelise to your own spouse and family. To separate from such a person in divorce would be a demolition of the plan of God in your life and in the life of your spouse and his kingdom. God bless you too Bishop Barron! And viva el Papa! God bless our Pope Francis!

As Jesus says, "love one another as I have loved you," we are not meant to focus on ourselves for the sake of our own progress, but we are called to build one another in love and charity, and hence a marriage is not about a self-affirming bond between individuals free from consequences, it is always meant to build the inner community; the family, the children, and the neighbors outside.

Discernment is not a choice between good and evil, but often a choice between the good and the best. What is best for you is your proper vocation. From the book "To Save a Thousand Souls" by fr Brett Brannen Who Will You Bring With You Into Heaven? I once heard a priest tell his vocation story. I grew up in a very close, devout Catholic family with loving parents and we prayed together as a family every day. I attended a Catholic school with wonderful teaching Sisters and everything in my life revolved around the Church. I lived in a very Catholic culture. I was the number one altar server, the star student, and a leader in my class. Because of this, and the fact that I loved being around the parish, serving and helping out the priests, everyone would say the same thing, “You will be a priest when you grow up. Won’t you?” I heard this constantly from the other kids in my class, from the sisters who taught me, and from the two assistant priests, who were always visiting the classes and interacting with me around the church. But I never heard it from the pastor, which I appreciated. I got tired of people urging the priesthood on me, because I did not especially want to become a priest. I always wondered why the pastor, an elderly Monsignor, never asked me about priesthood as everyone else did, though he was always very kind to the altar servers. One day, as I was coming close to graduation from the parish school, I was assigned to serve the seven o’clock morning Mass and the elderly pastor was the celebrant. Only the two of us were in the sacristy and he vested in silence, mumbling the vesting prayers in Latin and preparing himself for Holy Mass. With just two minutes to go before the Mass began, the Monsignor suddenly turned and said, “John, what will you be doing when you grow up?” I thought to myself, “Oh boy, here it comes. Even from Monsignor.” But I replied, “Monsignor, I am still not certain but I am thinking about going into medicine. I would like to become a doctor.” And the pastor replied, “Good. Good. And what will you do after that?” I said, “Well, I suppose I will marry and have a family of my own.” The priest said, “Good, and what after that?” Not sure exactly where he was going with this line of questioning, I replied, “I guess I will grow old, practicing medicine, and eventually retire. And then I guess I will die and go to heaven.” The pastor nodded his head knowingly, thoughtfully, and he was quiet for a few seconds. Then he looked at me earnestly and said, “And who will you bring with you into heaven?” Immediately, he rang the sacristy bell and we walked out to begin the Mass. I thought to myself, “How clever you are, Monsignor. How clever you are.” I thought about that comment all during the Mass and many more times during my adolescent and young adult years. “And who will you bring with you into heaven?” It was asking myself that question repeatedly that really turned the tide and convinced me eventually that I should become a priest. Every vocation is about helping other people reach heaven. I tell this story not to minimize the greatness of the sacrament of marriage, because marriage serves the same purpose! I suppose the young man might have used the same comment made by the pastor to move him towards the vocation of marriage. But the story illustrates the critical point that a vocation is not primarily about self-fulfillment, but about being the instrument of God in saving others. “What will you do with your life? What are your plans? Have you ever thought of committing your existence totally to Christ? Do you think that there can be anything greater than to bring Jesus to people and people to Jesus?”17 Pope John Paul II

Beautiful exegesis which lays out why marriage for us Catholics must never be diluted for the convenience of the secular world. I was the reader at Mass today and, as a married person, what a privilege it was. Thank you, Bishop Barron, for one of your gems.

What God has joined, let no man separate. This is quite important. We need to believe in this God's Commandment and keep remembering. Children are what make the husband & wife one. For responsible couples, the children affirm the glue that ties couples. In today's financial pressures, easy lust, lack of good family upbringings of past times, and other negative parameters, what could the Church do to permit couples to stay successfully married? Should the Church prepare questionnaires for the four main participants in order to open the couples' eyes on how to navigate the potentially troubled waters ahead? Love between a nan and a woman means more than body attraction. It should include mutual respect, including the couples' enlarged families. There are many parameters that come with marriage. The couples should be ready to deal positively with all of them. Learning of how to compensate and tolerate each other during all times are what yields successful marriages. For those who have children, caring for the children according to the Church's Commandments is what contributes to happy divorce less marriages, too.

I recommend 'On Marriage and Family Life' by St. John Chrysostom. I also really liked 'Marriage: An Orthodox Perspective' by John Meyendorff. "Marriage is indeed a genuine path to holiness. Married couples, no less than monastics, can attain the fullness of theosis [cf. CCC 460] or 'deification' in Christ."~Metropolitan Kallistos Ware (from 'Marriage as a Path to Holiness' by the Fords) See also: Catechism of the Catholic Church 1601-66. A profound book that I am still enjoying is 'The Sacrament of Love' by Paul Evdokimov. Bishop Barron's point is further highlighted by Fulton Sheen in 'Three to Get Married'. Thank you. God bless.

I hear you -- sorry about that. Oh, I thought this was a comment on another vid -- sorry. I think it is appropriate for this topic. The Church was one for 1,000 years and will be reunited. Please refer to CCC 838. God bless :) Also, the Eastern Catholic Churches read Eastern Orthodox books. Thank you.😊
