What the Bible Has to Say About the Priesthood | Bishop Robert Barron

Bishop Robert Barron recently visited The Saint Paul Seminary to share biblical perspectives on the Catholic priesthood. "The central theme of Scripture is right praise," he told the seminary community, and priests "knit together the universe" by leading this right praise.

Bishop Barron, thank you, from a lay person in New Zealand, who follows your videos all the time. Thanks be to God for your ministry. This presentation to seminarians is wonderful. It seems to me that all you have said applies to the laity as well. Right praise, and filling our ark, our safe place, with prayer and study. We all need to do that, to faithfully survive the chaos of the world. Thank you.❤❤❤

Without Orthodoxy in right praise, there's no way a street minister could bring the Gospel to his or her neighbors. Prayers that Seminarians understand what it truly means to "put your dad hats on," as I wrote to the Lincoln, NE graduates before going to Major Seminary. I pray they realize 🙏 they develop the ability for exactly that right order of praise, because the future of our understanding of the Eucharist, reception of it, and education of parishioners is the job of the priest and the nun. God bless you all. Thank you, Bishop Barron. Grateful for the Good News. I imagine that Mother Angelica is in Heaven with Bishop Fulton Sheen with genuine interest and respect.

Our Lord God doesn't Sin because God doesn't have to Sin to get what he wants. Sin originates from the Human Want. When the Want disappears, Sin disappears. When Humans Violate God's teachings, God will make his Will known. Noah's Flood was an extreme expression of God's Lessons, and Our Lord Jesus Christ's teachings are God's gentle reminders for Humans to Stay Away from Sin.

The book of Hebrews makes it quite clear that “there is on sacrifice for sins” and Jesus on the cross said “It is Finished”. “There is no more sacrifice for sins”. All Christians are a royal priesthood offering sacrifices of praise. The New Testament does not have the office of the priesthood for there are no more animal sacrifices to be offered.Paul mentions the offices of the church- apostles, prophets, teachers, evangelists etc. No mention of priests!

Good question. I want to look up Aquinas' question,"Can God sin?" No because that would be at odds with his nature, Love, willing the good of the other. That his so-called wrath is the passion to set things right(?). Then what is human nature? It seems to me I think I know what sin is. But then ask, would it be better to forget the entire judeo-christian history of ideas and research some other culture for answers? Or devote yourself to scientific research, which follows a morality of its own--the love of provable truth? If you're smart enough scientists are never boring. Well, if I were young I think I'd try to learn from Bishop Barron. He offers a good chance of living the best possible life. Because life is very short. You could actually be a scientist too. That would be doubly great. Too late for me though. Cheers.

Science only uncovers what has been created by God. If scientists can only understand in thier finite minds the infinite wisdom of God's purpose of creating for the infinite good, that's the purpose of creation, and that reflect God's love for his people. It is never too late to know God. You may never fathom the depth and immensity of his love for you but you will certainly enjoy the warmth of his embrace. Will pray for you my friend.

I didn’t know there was a Grace / Free will historical issue to resolve between Jesuits vs Dominicans. Would they take away Our Mother Mary’s Yes in the Annunciation even though she is Full of Grace ? I may not be a theologian or a priest or a philosopher. But I am called after my mother. I’m Maria Paz from Peru and I know It’s all Grace, always. God’s Grace makes us freer, it doesn’t take away your freedom. Once you surrender your will do you find true freedom and peace. When we choose to do good we don’t do it outside Grace even though we do it in freedom because we want to. We may choose to act outside Grace, act as if we don’t understand what we should do, fight against the current of the river. that doesn’t make it more free and never makes it easier than floating in God’s Love. True freedom comes from Pure Grace. It’s when we are aligned to God’s will for us that we truly exist. As always our Holy Mother of Peace will help with this too I’m sure. Thank you for sharing this video. Thank you Bishop Barron. May you all be blessed and protected in God’s Love and Grace in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Bishop Barron's "heart and mind" (NIV Acts 4:32) were scattered, not "of one", when not associating together with Pope Francis' consecrated celibate marriage on 17 June 2021 keeping in uncertainty of his belief its inseparability and qualitative equality with consecrated male female marriage vowed to God, (a ) and of its objective procreation role gift thinking reason ensuring in the Cardinal Angelo Becciu + 9 Vatican state citizens/employees embezzlements of its procreation role gift charity donations case by it authorising their criminal indictments in his Vatican state court, (b) with its subjective insuring in the "Zan" bill unacceptable risk of fraud on faith case by it simultaneously authorising a protest note against this bill to the Italian state Parliament. What in practice can Bishop Barron do, not just in theory by his assent to Fiducia Supplicans, DDF, 18 December 2023, to remedy his stated scattering position of faith being on the far side of reason thinking rather than their being inseparable and qualitatively equal as "of one heart and mind" (NIV Acts 4:32)?

@@octuple505 Thats not very nice and might be a good idea to spend time researching Vatican 2 and the changes. What's Wrong with the New Mass? Among other things, the liturgical changes of Vatican II reflect the doctrinal errors of the Council concerning: (1) the unity of the Church; (2) ecumenism; (3) religious liberty and (4) collegiality. (See What's wrong with Vatican II? FAQs) The new liturgy is an ecumenical liturgy, and seeks to erase any doctrines which are distinctly Catholic, and to turn the Catholic liturgy into a form of worship which would not be offensive to any Protestant. It is man-centered worship, stripped of all symbolism of the supernatural. The Ordo Missae of Paul VI is an evil liturgical discipline, because: it contains a heretical definition of the Mass; it was composed with the express purpose of making an ecumenical liturgy, pleasing to Protestants, stripped of Catholic truths concerning the priesthood, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and the Real Presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist; it was composed with the help and input of six Protestant ministers, which shows the heretical spirit in which it was conceived and formulated; its authors systematically deleted from its prayers and lessons doctrines which would be offensive to heretics; it teaches, both by its omissions and by its symbolism and gestures, heresies and errors concerning the priesthood, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and the Real Presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist. Furthermore, it is most probably invalid owing to a defect of intention which it causes in him who celebrates it, and owing, at least in the vernacular, to a blasphemous alteration of the words of Christ in the consecration formula.

Groan, this is so problematic. "Master theme of the Bible" is not about us or our praises; it's about Jesus Christ and who He is period. Our responses to that, whether praises, obedience, etc. are secondary. "You become what you worship." Oh really! So now you're talking Mormonism. "As god is, you may become", worshiping God and becoming one? from your further comments, I'm hoping that what you meant was, "You become LIKE what you worship. Mr. Barron has a lot to say based on what he thinks. That's one of the main age old differences between Roman Catholics and Protestants. at least historically, Protestants believe the primacy of the Scripture driving our views rather than our views driving Scripture. "Resting in what we have" relates to the 7th-day Sabbath? Really? Replace Sabbath observance with materialism? What? "Harmony around that central place" Human-centered peace around you? Actually, peace is a gift of Jesus out of our faith and love to Him (John 14:27) and not something we produce by a fixed "right worship." Mr. Barron says the liturgy is "right worship." The liturgy is a human, fixed ritual that actually limits worship to a form. This is not worship in spirit and truth (John 4:24). True worship is not an ordered ceremony; it is spontaneous response to our personal relationship with God anytime and anywhere. Liturgy is not spontaneous worship at all; it is submission to church dictation. According to Scripture, sin is transgression of the law (1John 3:4) not bad worship whatever that happens to mean. Then Mr. Barron to his credit addresses the problem of independent determination of good and evil but then he goes on to create a view of good and evil independent of the Bible! - something he calls "right praise", "right worship", "wrong worship" more of the human works orientation that in essence nullifies the gospel of acceptance with God by grace through faith alone! (Ephesians 2:8-10) Then stop trying to rewrite history bud! The papists were in no way friendly to the work of the reformers. Are you just going to bury their rabid war against the reformation and inquistion like they didn't happen! Just to summarize, the Bible teaches the priesthood of every believer (1 Peter 2:4, 5, 9; Revelation 1:6). The only role of a minister is support and building up of the flock, not dictating their worship. I kept waiting to hear something definitive about what the Bible has to say about the priesthood until I realized that it's not going to happen.
