@Stephanie Backman I second this. I'd love to see a "What I typically take for lunch" video, where the person says where they are from, what they do for work, what they usually have for lunch, and whether they packed it or someone in their family did. I think that would be so interesting, and fun!
Our midnight snacks depend on who starts it. We are mom, dad, two adult children and two little children in one house. The little ones are more grab and go, so pre-made things. The adult child #1 is more of a bread based snacker, so a PB&J. My husband is more of "anything that can become a taco, will become a taco" person, so if there are left overs, they are going inside a corn or flour tortilla. I usually make something "from scratch" that is sweet and fast like my "stove-top cookies" (make a thick pancake batter, add cocoa powder and extra sugar. Cook cookie sized pancakes on the skillet) and enjoy with a side of warm ginger milk. Sometimes adult child #2 cooks chicken rinds in the oven and we all get out of our rooms so quick ain't even funny and we all start adding snacks. It turns into a get-together when we should all be asleep. 😂 Covid-19 might have stressful moments, but it has made my family stronger and well versed on midnight snacks.

@@hananurra6122 I even make stovetop bread. Way faster than in the oven. The top is soft and moist, the bottom is crunchy and the center is like a pillow. ☺️ We experiment a lot in the kitchen and on the grill and smoker. It has become our pass time during these crazy times. No joke: we learned how to make bacon. Freaking bacon. 😂 Best flavor was brown sugar and black pepper. A very close second place was honey chipotle. Also... kimchi. I used the recipe of a YTber named Maanchi and it worked. I now know how to make kimchi... and beer... ginger beer. 😂 I'm just about to start the stovetop bread for the burgers we are smoking today. We are truly trying to live instead of just surviving this, and this craziness works for us. Any ideas about what we should learn next? Got any good recipes 🧐😁
My papa (late grandfather) and I used to go to the kitchen to make what I thought he was calling a “BEDNIGHT SNACK” until I learned what midnight meant lol. It consists of quartered bologna/american cheese slices, dill pickles, pimento stuffed olives, and Braunschweiger (a paste like meat made of liver). I still find myself wandering to the kitchen in the middle of the night cutting up bits of pickle, cheeses, and weird ingredients no one else in my house likes. I miss his presence, but little things like this make me realize the presence of him is now in my heart

Everybody is so beautiful and cozy in this video! Thank you Beryl and community for these great ideas and insights into how everyone snacks late at night. I would love the Biscoff mug cake recipe and Alishar (sp? The friend from Kazakstan), the purple triangle rice food looks amazing! I could listen to Sam talk for 20 minutes (the limit of my attention span :) ), maybe read aloud that book they were showing? What a lovely video. Thank you, everyone! This was great! My late night snack is usually cheese and bread--Tillamook cheddar and sourdough if I have it, American cheese and Wonder Bread if that's all we have. :)
Oh I love Kalashir from Jakarta!! He’s the person I would like to have a midnight snack with! His recipes are usually fantastic!
A lot of these "snacks" looked like whole meals. Everything looked really good. If I were to have a snack late at night though it would just be me picking at the leftovers from whatever dinner was that night.

Finally Nepal, yaaaay. Selroti got featured in beryl's video, gonna sleep soundly tonight.
Ah I actually wish I'd something for this - it's quite common in Cantonese areas to have "siu yeh" (literally "roasted night") and people eat with their friends /family late at night - not necessarily whole meals, think like barbecue, seafood etc. That's why we tend to have lots of night markets, the main draw is food! 😂
Sam’s choice is just excellent! We often have either Persian or Medjool dates stuffed with walnuts (tip: shredded coconut is also a great addition) alongside our after-diner tae I definitely like the idea of a nice book for the ultimate relaxing and unwinding experience… I’ll try it out next time!

It’s 11:33pm in California as I’m watching this video. I am snacking on my go-to favorites , green apples 🍏 (sliced in coins) and pepper-salt. The pepper-salt is made by pounding salt with fresh Thai birds eye chili in a mortar with a pestle. The combination of tart green apples dipped into salt & spice is YUM!
The garlic noodles & poached egg and the vegemite and cheese have my heart!💗✨ (Also Australian and I’m heavy handed with it 😅!)

@Genie B Raw eggs are so so safe. In the USA, it's something like 1 in 55,000 eggs is unsafe. So unless you're preggers or immuno-compromised, I'd say you'll be just fine. And even if you're preggers or i/c, frankly, cuz the 1 in 55,000 is not likely the one you're eating. I use raw egg all the time - have for many decades - never once had an issue. But I grew up in a farming community and we are less concerned with such things, as we've learned from Mother Nature herself.
Props to the mom and daughter for having late night snack and chat sessions. That seems so special. Cool to see everyone's snacks, too!

I used to eat this as a snack when I was a kid so I still eat it as an adult lol. It's very tasty. -White pita bread (slightly toasted needs to be soft still) -Spread a thickish layer of cream cheese (use the block cream cheese it's more dense and better tasting) -Add some Nacho Cheese Dorito Chips (Don't finely crush it 'cause you need big crunch texture) -Lastly add a semi thin slice of Persian Cucumber with the peel and eat! If you try it, tell me how you liked it.

@A T That actually sounds pretty darned good! You've got your contrasting temperatures (warmed bread with cold cuke and cold cream cheese), your contrasting textures (soft bread, soft cheese, crunchy tortilla chips, crunchy pickles), and contrasting but complimentary flavors (lovely dairy and mild cucumber with spiced tortilla chips). I'll bet the tiniest bit of fresh lime juice squeezed onto the cream cheese after you've spread it would elevate this snack all the more. I hope you give it a go!
I don't have a midnight snack for two reasons. First, I gain three stone just thinking about a midnight snack. Second, I'm paralyzed and once my care aide tosses my numb carcass in bed, I can't get up and get one. What did I have before? A cuppa Chamomile mint tea with just a little bit of honey and a little warm milk in it.

Check out Aaron and Claire 's channel, or Kitchen Princess Bamboo, both of whom have a video on homemade onigiri, six ways (or maybe eight...) and I have used their videos to make onigiri at home.
