Yeah these kids need to be wearing life jackets for damn sure. In fact, i'm rather shocked more people are ticketed down in Florida for this one thing alone. I can't begin to tell you how many videos i've watched on this channel. Of folks holding babies without life jackets on them in big surf. Or kids in smaller bow riders getting flooded after the boat "sips and dips" after a few large swells. Put jackets on your kids folks...(g)

It's like watching a car accident in slow motion. Kids and babies without life preservers on. Stupid parents holding babies in their laps in front. And captains just plows on thru thinking an accident won't happen to his boat or anyone else in his boat .... Like his family. Notice most idiots are male captains. What's up with that fact? Then add in alcohol consumption. What could go wrong?
Mystery boat handled the Inlet like a boss. And the little Whaler before it with the experienced captain was great. He was focused on the task and was working that throttle beautifully to ride some of those waves in.

Absolutely they need to be wearing life jackets. Should be obvious.
The guy in the whaler new exactly what to do, follow the waves in, but don't breach the crest. My boat has a foot throttle that makes it easier, as I can drive up the wave and just hold back to avoid tipping over it
@jamesw.6931

My Rogers had a foot throttle, although that boat is only used for short high-speed sprints. It would become tiring over the course of the day not to have the standard throttle controls like on my Baja...
@Phantom-mk4kp
22 күн бұрын
@@jamesw.6931 Personally I never thought of it being tiring, I have a second boat with just a hand throttle and find it annoying having to keep grabbing the hand throttle. The only issue with a foot throttle is it only suits a boat with low sitting bucket seats.

@@Phantom-mk4kp When the wife and I take out the Baja, it's for long runs to our favorite spot for the day. Once the Baja is on a plane, we are at the same throttle setting, up to an hour or more; Therefore, my comment on tiring. When I feel the need for speed, it's only for less than an hour, (wife will not ride along) so I like the control of the foot throttle on the Hot Rod.

Nice to see the Catamaran out. It struggled a bit more than expected it made it no problem lol
watching from Phoenix AZ, my back could never handle those rides anymore but like watching others.
I come from an area where kids must wear a life jacket on a calm lake. So yeah, when you’re mobbing chop in Haulover, all children should be wearing a life jacket. I judge any parent that doesn’t feel the same way. Would you want your kid bobbing up and down in those conditions while some numb-nut captain tries to maneuver the boat around in those waves? 🙄
@seeharvester

what's 'mobbing'?
The Leopard cat did justfine, as you wouldexpect a cat of that size. The captain needs to trust the boat more and let it do what it's made to do, throttle up and it will slice pretty well through those.

3:29 Instead of brute forcing through the waves like a landlubber, he holds for the break and then, throttles forward, reads the next, holds, waits for the break and then throttles forward. Riding the waves helps conserve fuel, reduce wear and tear on the boat, and provide a more comfortable ride. Majority of people just buy boats and never get training to learn how to operate them correctly or skillfully. I suspect a boat hull can only take so much of fatigue before it develops cracks.

Watching from Wyoming
My guess on the mystery boat would be an Ocean 46'. It looks shorter, but I think that the Zodiac on the bow only makes it seem shorter. Definitely an Ocean though. The logo on the cockpit wall gives it away.
@4:40 Looks like an Ocean Yachts Sport Fish
I think the Mystery Yacht is an Ocean Yachts Convertible, or sports fisher. I think the company folded in 2015ish. They were right near where Viking is, and I think I read that Viking bought the ship yard. They are supposed to be very good boats.

I wouldnt call the very good boats. I have fished on them.... they are fast, but not made as well as a Viking, Bertram Hatteras Etc. They tend to have issues in heavy seas.
The mystery boat could be a Viking Convertible Sportsfish or Billfish 38 as it looks very similar to others I've seen.
That huge cat hull runs like a pontoon boat.
I was a commercial fisherman in florida waters back in the day and alaska too. I have seen em come and go and i never understood why man thinks he can conquer the might of wave and water in an unaproprait vessels and unfavorable sea conditions just for a little fun and the thrill of it.
You can see why big yachts like the Sunseeker 8:56 have fin stabilizers. With it's high center of gravity and shallow draft it just gets tossed around in these sort of conditions. Look at it roll!.
At around 6 minutes 17 seconds why does that blue fishing boat Therapy 4 always have his outriggers out going through the inlet?
I mean those kids probably should where life jackets up front but maybe if they where in the back they don’t need to but let me know what you guys think 😊

I was thinking an Ocean Yacht. Seems to be my default guess when I see no forward salon glass
That large Cat did better than i would have thought. The waves sort of went under the middle of the boat. So they were dispersed better when they hit the bow. Still not a boat i'd be taking out in conditions like this it's just not made for it. I still feel Viking makes the best boats for these types of rough conditions. Those boats plow through this stuff with their wide bows like bulldozers.
I have seen many times in these videos, that not even rescue professionals wear life jackets. So crazy.
Where is the Coast Guard???
In all conditions
You never sit in or near the bow when a boat is underway. Worst place to ride. You see that and know folks have no clue.
Not only the kids should always wear lifevests/lifejackets.
CAPTAINS!!!…. Pulling in your fenders it makes you look like you need to be boarded by the Coast Guard for inspection!!
@emmadsmith

Plus eventually you are going to lose a cleat because of that!!!
The only reason that big catamaran didn't sink is because of the fact that the it rides so high out of the water.The captain could use some lessons.
*standing and saluting at 3:17 *
So has anyone thought about extending the Groins out further and perhaps shaping the inlet so that wave energy can be broken up? It would make this inlet less dangerous...

It gets talked about alot, but, the fact is, haulover isn't usually this rough, it just gets very very rough on a regular basis so Wavy has plenty of content. There's also plenty of other places that you can get out, you don't have to use haulover, it's just the shortest distance for alot of people, so it gets used often.
4:10 What does one of the most experienced captains at Haulover inlet do? Seems to be out quite often in rough conditions
Kids and for that matter the adults should be wearing them 100% of the time. The water will always win.

@@DonTruman A whaler isn't sinkable, so, worst case, it gets sucked into/out of the channel and then rescued. In this instance, it'd likely just catch waves until it was out of the rough stuff, he didn't have a ton of power in anyway.

The big fat catamaran did good considering. It's just so thicc it doesn't really care.
The channel has done good deeds before, just look at the recent dumping incident. Perhaps a local investigative reporter would like to do an expose on "The latest wave of child endangerment by affluent and entitled parents"? (I use this A&E phrasing because I've noticed that the less expensive the boat going through Haulover, the higher the chance the kids have vests on.) Start a petition for applied enforcement, perhaps? I would think that if a few thousand people sign a document saying "we're tired of seeing kids at risk in these turbulent waters, start ticketing" the CG and local LE might feel compelled to do something.
Is the Haulover Inlet ever NOT like this?

They shouldn´t be sitting in the bows at all on such a day.....
The entitled cause much of the soft tissue damage to kids. But keep operating the boat that way, it's fine. Everything will be okay....
Back injuries at young age does anyone care over and over again we see this and just don't think parents believe in pfd anymore sad but true
Anyone under 12yo needs to have a life jacket on at all times 100%. Poor captaining skills for not enforcing it

You gonna be too comfortable fishing in this kind of weather can’t even stand in the boat without having to exercise all day long while you’re fishing😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 you come back home you’re dead tired from fishing and exercising all day😂😂😂😂😂
Why do so many boats go out only to turn around and go right back?
@FollowingfromafarBooth-jz4jq
22 күн бұрын
Because it’s really rough out, all the ride outside of the inlet will be compensating for the conditions. Waste of fuel, you can’t cruise and relax on the boat ( passengers, not the captain) fishing would be difficult, every food or drink would be dumped onto the boat. The boat is just going to be pounded on. Head in, tie up, clean up and check for anything loose or cracked or pulled etc. Every day on the water can be a good day but, not every day on the water will be a good day.
I think their parents don't love them.
