As a Russian I've been waiting for this particular video so long I can't remember. Maybe Putin fans in the West see him as a sort of conservative icon protecting Russia from the bane of wokeism, preserving the Christian values and Christian population makeup, which is as far from truth as it can get. Putin is the opportunist, the embodiment of "Real Politik" with no ideology other than his personal well-being. One moment he is cosying up with Russian nationalists talking about how ethnic Russians are the leading group in the country, the other moment he is coaxing the big business with easy access to foreign labor (most of whom are viewed as "invaders" by aforementioned nationalists). Putin is a post-ideology man who juggles different often contradictory ideas presenting only what he thinks is beneficial to him at the moment. I guess I'll be sending this to a number of my overseas friends. Thanks for your work.

Nope. They see him as a fellow Capitalist. The US was so desperate to destroying communism and the USSR that they created a scenario where a corrupt, mafia style capitalists like Putin could take absolute power. They saw him as the better option. Like: "everything President is better as long as he is no communist" While in reality the west directly enabled a corrupt fascist dictatorship that is even worse then anything the USSR ever was. 1. Actually Russia likely has a Bigger Migrant Population than Germany. Because Russia will often consider Immigrants to be Russian if they come from former Soviet Union Countries. Thus them not being Counted as Immigrants in the Statistics. For each non Russian Immigrant from these Areas. There is nearly 2 Immigrants which are considered to be Russian and are thus not counted as Immigrants. 2. This above is also done because it Provides a very Good Justification to Influence and Potentially Annex these former Soviet Republics. If a Large Percentage of Your Population has Russian Citizenship. It provides one of the most used Russian Justifications for Invasion. Which is Your Country is Russians and should be Returned Home or that your Country is Suppressing Russian Minorities and thus Russia needs to move in to Protect it etc. 3. And Finally. Russia is fairly Racist and does Discriminate against "lesser" Russians. Meaning that while these People are considered Russian. They will be considered Second Class Russians. Which means they get less benefits and will often be Conscripted or be Forced into other Cheap Labor Jobs or the Military. Even right now. Russian Soldiers Send to Ukraine are to an Disturbing Degree these Lesser Russians.

Putin created a post-modern ruling style. His government has several completely contradictory narratives which get distributed to different political groups. I'm a moderate nationalist and I've been telling Western Putin fans about this for more than a decade as there are many who believe that Putin is either based or a champion of countries they see as oppressed by the Western world. It is so silly for either patriotic or leftist foreigners to see Putin as a good leader (well, for Russian standards, he was really decent in the 00s but it's a low standard). While I hope Ukraine can keep as much territory as possible, the extremely one sided media reports and demonisation of criticism of the past American/UK treatment of Russia, this very hyper polarisation and downright propaganda has driven many people to be sympathetic to Putin. They correctly identify the propaganda of Western governments as propaganda but then make the mistake to assume that the side that is lied about must be the good side and they fall for another country's propaganda...

"post modern ruling style" Its called populism, and has existed since before ancient Rome. On the face of it, it seems like a good thing, doing what the people want and as such ruling and acting with popular mandate. The problem is that populist regimes tend to... -condition their populaces to think, feel and live a very specific way, allowing them to "other" everyone who thinks differently. -condition them into combining anti-elitism with anti-intellectualism, resulting in the destruction of academia independant from government or religion. -create scapegoats out of minorities -create aggressive policies and bills where the upside is highlighted and the downsides are ignored if not straight up hidden from the public, helped by the anti-intellectualism and scapegoating. -conditioning the populace into looking at "dear leader" as divinely mandated and the best leader, creating a cult of personality. Erdogan, Putin, Mao zedong, the ayatollah, Hamas, Kim Kong in, lukashenko, Orban, Netanyahu, all of these figures are populists, and all their governments proclaim themselves the voices of their people. Because they've conditioned their populaces to think that way.

It`s interesting how the far left and the far right both support Russia because they think that Putin is either a communist hero fighting against American imperialism or a staunch traditionalist who is just protecting family values. Both are fed into by the very efficient Russian propaganda machine. (There are so many Russian bots in the comments of popular news channels and other similar content) Putin would actually be remembered as a good leader and president by most people if he just actually retired in 2008 (even considering Chechnya and Georgia). Democratic institutions that were established in the 90s already heavily eroded by that point, but the economy was doing pretty good and Russia was becoming a functioning member of the global economy and political formations like the G8. The West has plenty of problems to deal with (namely the housing crisis and a complete failure to properly deal with immigration), but people who then jump to saying that Putin would be a great American president or that people in Russia have it better are just delusional.

At a national level, the Russian civil economy needs these people, who often work in low-paid jobs. Russia's "liberal" migration policy towards them (in comparison with the walls that the European Union and China are erecting) and the fact that Russian is still the vernacular language mean that, despite the very strong racism against them, these people have no choice but to go and work in Russia. From a geopolitical point of view, this constant flow allows Russia to keep control of Central Asia, even if China is literally on its doorstep, because it brings a huge amount of money into these countries while helping corrupt regimes not to be too burdened with a large unemployed population, which makes it more pleasant to maintain the Russian language and active links with the government in Moscow.

The Caucasus and Central Asia is a side show whose only significance is that winning it over will allow Europe a source of oil and metals as an alternative to that of Russia. Kazakhstan can potentially be a significant thorn in Russia's side, if a pro-Western anti-Russian nationalist coup is successful there but that was already tried back in January 2022 and failed. But none of this would prevent geopolitical catastrophe for the West and the de-facto birth of a multipolar (or at least bipolar) world order in the event of a Russian victory in the Ukraine. Nor would the Central Asian resources and market offset for Europe what they have lost by losing access to cheap Russian energy and metals and the wider Russian market.

It simply wants to keep friendly leaders in power there and keep Islamists and Western influence out and in Kazakhstan it did so successfully back a couple years ago without too much trouble. I disagree that there would be a shortage of labour. Instead, certain companies would go out of business because it would be impossible to replace cheap labour and maintain acceptable prices. And some gray market would convert to white market.

In general I agree. The problem of migration exists and it is getting worse. At the same time, society was divided on this issue. The majority does not want to see migration from undeveloped countries for any benefit. Migration lobbyists are former communists and corrupt officials who receive millions from the illegal import and exploitation of migrants. The latest terrorist attack caused an incredibly strong anti-migrant response that no amount of lobbying efforts could overcome. A number of new laws against migration and increased penalties for any assistance to illegal migration and corruption are expected soon. From Russia.
