I hope our boys are ok. They left the Troop a good 1 yr and in some cases 2 yrs earlier than normal. This is so sad for me as well as others I’m sure. I loved every glimpse of that little guy. Thanks Arroz. Stay safe.

I think there is a good chance that Dopey will be an Alpha someday. He is very handsome, loves making trouble and seems strong for his age. It seems like they are leaving younger and younger. I was surprised to see that there are so few left from that year. It looks like Knitty is gone and before Knotty? That seems strange as Knitty was a year younger. We never saw much of him after he was weaned and then mostly with Knotty. I know it is their genetics and nothing to be done about it but we follow them so closely through your lens that we become attached and think of them as our own. I have always thought the short tails were so much nicer looking than the long tails and without so much human interference they behave much differently also. I am thankful that there are not the hoards of videographers , at least for now. Thank you and stay safe, Arroz.

This is a very heartbreaking video, how I wish that day will never come but for sure it is inevitable, but they will make it for sure they are all smart little cuties.

Bessie reminds me of the popular girl in school who is approached by a cocky boy that she doesn’t like and she rolls her eyes and pushes him into the lockers.😳🤣 Kinda like, “Oh no you didn’t just try to touch me!”🥴

Do you have video of them actually being booted from thief birth troop? I wonder if they know its coming at all, if they know what is happening, or if its complete surprise and confusion.

I have had first hand experience of the “dominance act”. I had started work with a well known telecommunications company in early 2000 after leaving the Royal Marines due to an injury after 11 years service. I was in the canteen queue when a man came from behind me and attempted to mount me in a sort of mock, comical manner. I have to admit that I was taken completely by surprise and clumsily managed to get myself back into a dignified stance. The whole spectacle was uncomfortable for those who were in the area and extremely embarrassing for me. I wasn’t sure what to make of it and didn’t want to overreact, but I couldn’t see the funny side of what had happened. I later realised that the reason for his actions were to obtain a photo of it and post it on a Facebook “wall of shame, or fame”. They had failed to do so on that occasion. To my utter disbelief and shock, they attempted to do the same thing a few weeks later. I am 6-5, and weigh 220lb +. I just lost it. I broke his arm, all of the fingers on his right hand and also broke his jaw. His face was a bloody mess and he was clearly in a state of shock. I initially had my contact terminated, but was eventually reinstated. He declined to take matters further, and I had threatened to talk to the press about other incidents I had witnessed in the last few months that I had worked there. Don’t monkey around with a former Royal Marines Commando.

At 19:00 I swear the look on Dopeys face looks as if he knows he had just sealed his fate when Bessy screamed and he was chased off. He looked sad and worried.

I hate to see Dopey go but he is getting bigger and more aggressive so I think the time is right. You can see in this video he was pretty rough playing with Dipsy after the rescue and later with Sputty, and he got handsy with Bessie. At 8:23 he grabs Dipsy very roughly and you can see by the look on Dipsy's face it hurt. From 7:54 - 9:10 Dimpy joins her brothers. She has always been very protective of Dipsy and I think she joined to help protect him and/or to distract Dopey's attention away from Dipsy. Despite Dopey's rough play, Dipsy wants to be around him. After Dopey rescued him, Dipsy went over to help Reddy groom Dopey, and then Dipsy messes with Dopey by crawling on his head. Reminds me of how Dopey liked to play with his older brother Bobby before Bobby left a year or two ago. I remember one video with the two of them when Dopey was young andArroz predicted that one day Dopey would be a big brother to Dipsy like Bobby was to him then. Today's video shows just that. The way these 3 siblings played together actually reminded me of me and my two sisters growing up. The oldest/middle/youngest behavior was very similar between us and them. Dopey seemed to think he'd had enough of his younger siblings and he headed over to Bessie (teen girl his age). Maybe I'm reading too much into it but he looked purposeful and confident, and he was pretty assertive in placing his hands on her. Was he that bold with her (alpha Bossie's daughter) when they were younger? I don't remember but thought Reddy and her kids were pretty careful not to offend Bossy. He actually drew blood playing with Sputty. If you start watching about 18:20 you can see blood on Dopey's tongue and lips at 18:50-19:00, then you can see the blood where he bit Sputty's right arm at 19:05. Then Dopey looks like he realizes he went too far and appears to lick Sputty's wound. Sputty lets him, seeming to understand Dopey isn't trying to bite him again. Then they go back to playing for a few seconds more but Dopey is not as rough, and he avoids the injured arm, nipping at Sputty's left arm only. So it looks to me like Dopey's getting too rough for younger kids, and perhaps getting too interested in girls his own age. As Arroz said he's always been a troublemaker stirring things up and that's what he did again today. I've seen hints of this same sort of swagger in little Dipsy and I'll be watching to see if he shares that trait with Dopey. Dopey is smart and confident so I think he'll be able to find his way out on his own (hopefully still with his friend Buddy; Buddy is Bossy's son, right?). Sure would like to see him settle into a new troop and produce some little Dopey Jrs. ❤️🐒❤️

I found it interesting that Dopey appeared to realize he injured Sputty, but didn't mean to and tried to make amends. (If my interpretation is correct, who knows, just going by what it looks like to me!)

You're right! I made a great catch! Dopey has always been a little to rough while playing. It's a trait I don't like in him but it probably helps him great in life away from the troop. It's a good monkey quality. What we've seen he's always balanced between ok play and not ok. I've never notice him draw blood before but it's still much we don't see. After you pointed out the blood and I saw it I had to see if I could see if Putty had scab from an older wound and Dopey managed to rip it off because it's not a small wound but not huge either but it's big enough if you understand what I mean. I couldn't see if he had any scab do it was probably Dopeys doing. He's being so full of himself like always. The thing with Bessie, it's interesting. I thought it already when I saw the video first and it's always been in the back of my mind. I think you're right in your speculation about Dopey and the teenage girls Inn the troop. Buddy is Dorothy's latest! 🤓🏴‍☠️🇸🇪

I wasn't sure about Dopey's interest in the opposite sex so I'm glad you thought the same thing independently. Considering that and his aggressiveness throughout the video I bet he had a surge of testosterone that day. Dopey being full of himself is a good description, hahaha! We love him but he is a scoundrel. I agree that'll serve him well. He seems to be fitting in with the bachelor troop well so he can play by the rules and respect those higher ranked when he needs to. Thank you for the reminder about Buddy!

Dopey got so big so fast it seems!!! Where do they go after leaving home? There’s only so many troops around, right? How far can they travel?? How is Dopey allowed to come and go? I thought once they left, that was it. I just love these guys!!!

Barbara George They can travel good distances and there are troops in other places too close to Golden Hill Rd. You can find about 40 troops. Dopey can visit if the females thinks he acts properly. A rhesus macaque in the wild become sexually mature around the age of 4. In captivity about a year earlier. Sometimes I think the monkeys at Monkey Hill are semi wild and that can influence their maturity process. 🤓🏴‍☠️🇸🇪

there is no question of what monkey is the favorite of arroz it's Dopey and we saw him about a week ago in a video and we will see him again so you all who love dopey like I do just keep the faith I do wish he would have stuck with Batty and Spocky but Dopey is Dopey he has never been a follower he is a leader and I would say that we will see him maybe Friday night this coming Sunday

Dopey is a cutie and I hope he stays safe on his journey! Ive commented this before and I have to mention it again because its SO cute to me.. but whats up with that hind leg thing they do? 8:15 i see them do that quite often, and with lots of different things and during different activities. Please explain how they leave the troop. Do they leave on their own? Are they forced? If so, by who? It’s fascinating how this happens as you show that family clusters exist and there is family attachment. So, how does the male monkey leave his family?

Arroz Marisco! I'm worried about how the change in how many boys are born compared to girls have and will influence the troops. You know 1 boy to every 4 girl and there's a reason to that balance but now this has changed. When I look at the numbers it's almost 50/50. How are the males handling this? Has it mean more fights? More ending up dead (disappeared). Have you seen any changes among the troops, how do they cope with it? Usually a troop has no more males than a few and it's a good reason to why. The sterilisation program is changing the monkeys way to live (their lifestyle) in more ways than one. All those infertile females who most want a child. I think their behaviour will change gradually to be more aggressive for a chance to babysit or be a "mother". Have you heard anything from those who's running the program. Have they even thought about this? I know Rhesus Macaques are highly adaptable but maybe this is to much for them to handle. Hope you understand what I'm trying to say. 🤓🏴‍☠️🇸🇪

Clovis The Wicked It's not only shortness of fertile females I'm talking about. They live in, for them a well worked society in over millions of years. When rules are follow things run pretty good with not many territorial fights, the troops all know eachother. This balance has worked well and are so bonded with the fact that the born result every year are 4 girls to every boy born. This has changed now and the result is now 50/50. It's started to influence the troops and I don't want to see what will happen in the long run. I can speculate but I won't. 🤓🏴‍☠️🇸🇪

Pam Latulippe If he has become sexually mature he had to leave the troop. Usually wild Rhesus Macaques reach it around the age of 4 but in captivity they do it around the age of 3. I've always seen the Golden Hill troops as semi wild but that's my opinion. 🤓🏴‍☠️🇸🇪
