Running from 1993-2009, Late Night with Conan O’Brien is one of the most beloved late night shows in television history. Known for its absurdist humor, hilarious celebrity interviews and featuring the best stand-up comedians and musical acts of the 90’s and early 2000s. Hosted by Conan O’Brien alongside sidekick Andy Richter and house band Max Weinberg and the Max Weinberg 7, Late Night with Conan O’Brien featured unforgettable segments like “If They Mated,” “In the Year 2000,” “Desk Driving” and made a breakout star of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.

    Well it's a tricky topic. If main stream actors didn't try voice acting we wouldn't have Mark Hamills joker. However you have a point. If a person's talent is good they should get the job

    @@michaelversace456 Mark Hamill was never and has never been considered a "mainstream" actor, he himself actively avoided trying to be mainstream, it wasn't for him, ask yourself, how many "mainstream" movies or TV shows has he been in? Compared to his voice work which is the overwhelming bulk of his portfolio.

    @@SMSCOOBY71 my point is some can actually do it. However not all. Bradley Cooper did well as the voice of Rocket but the job could've easily been offered to Troy Baker or Michael Richardson. Another ridiculous example of over hyping a film was having vin diesel voice Groot. It's three farken words lol. Not Dostoevsky's house of the damned. Not interested in the new super Mario movie. Just looks like shit.

    @@candyOrangeGray If being good at maths is your definition of a genius, you're very narrow-minded. There are many kinds of intelligence. Making up iconic voices that fit the character as well as being able to understand and manipulate your voice as much as these guys do are skills that definitely require certain kinds of intelligence on a very high level.

    Harry Shearer's face while he's voicing Mr Burns is just killing me. His eyebrows and everything, he's embodied the character and it's just so sinister. I love it.

    If you watch any interview with some of the greatest voice actors, they all get into a character! It's amazing hearing, and seeing the process of them doing the voices!

    ​@sterlingglover2331 when you see footage of voice actors or regular actors doing voice work in the recording booth, they're often animating their whole body while they speak, literally acting out a scene as if they were on stage or on a set. All part of getting into the character and delivering authenticity in their voice lines, but still.. really cool to watch

    @@TheACanning Quantity does not equate to quality and greatness. Not in the entertainment industry or most other industries. There are actors that have been working for decades and have many more tv/movie appearances under their belt than some A list actors today however they are just not as good and/or talented. I can sit down on an afternoon and come up with 400+ different voices on my own but that doesn't mean I'm more adept than Dan Castellaneta. Don't mess with me buddy, I am smarter than you and I'll most certainly win. So sit down.

    He was a pretty good writer for them for a bit during their best years. Also I think he voiced the monorail guy? Could be wrong but possibly voiced that and more. Edit, he wrote the monorail episode. d'oh.

    Yea! Really keen eye! So I’m a voice actor, and one of things a lot of people don’t realize is just how physical voice acting is. You really do use your whole body, and contort your face in anyway you can to help get the voice.

    Somewhere on a DVD commentary a producer or writer said it’s like he loses 20 IQ points when he does Homer. They said he makes mistakes that are so perfect they leave them in. “I’m smart. S M R T. Smart.”

    I don't think it's so much that he has to look stupid to do Homer. I think it has to do more with the way you angle your neck, mouth and tongue to do a certain sound or noise.

    @@JayRock21122 Same for Cleveland from Family Guy. Kendra from The Cleveland Show is voiced by a black woman. I never thought about voice actors races when relating it to an animated comedy. I am sure a lot of races are not represented by voice actors of that same race. That has always been the standard, so it's somewhat levelling the playing field. Really, viewers do not care as long as they're enjoying the show.

    @Sketchy Stuff It's worse than not making progress... we're moving backwards. This isn't anything like dated, repugnant practices like black or yellowface, and I never felt there was anything remotely demeaning in the portrayal of any Simpsons characters. Yes, Apu is unquestionably a stereotype as a convenience store owner, but he also has a PhD, and he's no goofier than any of the other characters. Maybe it would have been better to integrate new characters into the show instead of compromising the integrity of it, I don't know. I just watched an excellent documentary about this, called "Can We Take a Joke?" Really enjoyed it, highly recommend!

    The way they have (or choose) to make different weird faces for each character's voice is very cool. Andy Serkis' method for the LOTR book reading he once talked about on The Late Show with Colbert came to mind.

    @@goodbadbill No pushback from me. I love the first 13 seasons or so of the Simpsons, but I think it took a dive after that. It's had funny moments since but it's changed a lot for the worse. A ton of inspired competitors pushed the show to be very different now than what it was in order to stay relevant.

    I remember seeing this episode of Conan when it was new. I had no idea that these two guys did so many of the character voices on the show. I was absolutely blown away seeing them go so seamlessly from one character voice to another.

    Well, the writing has been shit for the last 20 years and the animation has lost all its charm from the '90s but that is certainly not their fault. Good for them to still be able to put their massive talent to work - However, I stopped watching it a long time ago because of the aforementioned issues.

    You can tell a voice actor is good when you can’t tell certain characters are voiced by the same person. I never knew Mr. Burns and Smithers had the same voice actors.😂😂 that’s real talent. I also didn’t know Homer, Mayor Quimby and Krusty the Clown were voiced by the same person.

    As a kid, I didn't know that Dan Castellaneta was also the voice of Groundskeeper Willie or Mayor Quimby. I knew he was the voice of Homer and Grampa. Just like Julie Kavner is the voice of all the Bouvier's. Marge, Patty and Selma, and Grandma Bouvier.

    I LOVE that they continued the tongue depressor joke from Dr Hibbett to Mr Burns only to find out he didn't have any tongue depressors and a "back up" rubber glove is pure simpsons. I can see it.

    I remember Harry saying in an interview that Mr. Burns was his favourite, but most difficult/straining voice to do. This really makes sense when you see him run throughhis characters, as Burns is notably different. I think it's his bassy voice, which he kinda removes the bass from to speak like Mr. Burns. Really cool seeing these two doing improv, as well!

    Dan Castelleneta is actually one of the consulting producers on The Simpsons. But I don’t think even he can turn the sitcom around. So many episodes have been made that the creative well has just become completely dried up many times over at this point.

    Celebrity voice actors really have negated form the art form, in my opinion. Occasionally they're good but mostly they're just doing their normal voice. Really wish actual voice actors were cast in animated movies/series more often. How could you argue that these guys are anything but in another league to your Hollywood a-listers.

    That's a really interesting point. Was just watching Shrek 3 and I immediately could tell Arthur was just Justin Timberlake. So the rest of the movie just felt like Shrek was on an adventure with Justin Timberlake. However, would you agree that Tom Hanks as Woody is one of the best voices for an animated character of all time even though he was juts doing his normal voice? It's instantly believable from first word.

    @@balloonpoop i would argue that although tom hanks is doing a good job in the role, you instantly hear tom hanks and not the character. The point being made is that it would presumably be much better if official voice actors did jobs of said genre instead of people like screen actors, people who can create a new person just through there voice rather than a character that is just an extension of the celebrity

    I remember watching a classic version of the video and NOT being surprised by who they each provided character voices since i owned a book of the Simpson's 2nd season and it explains who provides which voice Only problem was Dan forgot Barney And Harry forgot Ned Flanders, Reverend Lovejoy and Otto
