I am open to the idea of a reboot as a series, but, it has to be amazing, it can't even be decent, has to be such a high level to get everyone on board

It's Harry Potter. And it's not some weird spin-off or side story like fantastic beasts. It's proper Harry Potter. It's going to be good. Those books are so heavy, especially later ones, and they fit so much into a 2 and 1/2 hour run time but still barely scratch the surface. I'm so excited to see what 8 hours or more can do.

There’s a tonne of stuff from the books not explored in the movies that would be interesting to see. Plus the added format of long form series can be a little more faithful and fleshed out. With this production team, I’m damn excited to be honest. It’s been nigh on 20 years since the first film and nearly 13 since the last. I’m open to revisiting this world with fresh eyes.

Unlike Disney, WB is putting the best of the best of the best to run this show. Who would’ve thought IP is widely beloved and deserves this treatment. Love to see this.

I always remembered one of the cut stories from the Deathly Hallows was one of the Black family members hiding a Horcrux and that side story always stuck with me even after almost 2 decades later. So I’m on board for this.

I see a huge issue here. A Harry Potter series is going to require top notch production values and a lot of VFX, which we know HBO is more than capable of. But no such show these days can seem to get new seasons out in less than 18-24 months, and that simply won't do in this case with a cast of kids who will be about 12 or 13 at the beginning. If they can't figure that problem out, those kids will be young adults by the time they reach Book 4. Best way might be to shoot the first 3 or 4 seasons back to back to avoid them growing too much in between

HBO have confirmed the show will stretch over a decade like the movies did. So about 18 months in between seasons maybe. The problem is, with child labour laws, it makes it extremely difficult to film a whole lot with the child actors. they can only work within a set amount of hours.

Just get Adam Driver for Snape please.

I would've made an anthology show EXPANDING and DOING DEEPER into the wizarding world we already know. There's so much stuff they can do, visit, revisit, exploring, etc. Instead, they're rebooting everything... Let's see how that turns out

Trying to cast those 3 kids (4 w/Draco) when they are about 10 years old and have them film a series per year for the next 7-8 years is almost impossible. It was a miracle the pulled it off in the movies.

This was my first thought. This series will rise or fall based on the cast they assemble no matter how much money HBO throws at it. The kids they cast for the movies turned out to be a miraculous feat of casting and I'm skeptical that lightening will strike twice in the same spot.

"Almost impossible" is way too pessimistic. It's been done before, in various shows, so it can be done again. The movies were not perfect by any measure, especially with regards to some of the actors performances, directing choices etc. I believe this series has the potential to be BETTER than the movies, in more ways than one. But, if it (somehow) fails, it will be a huge blow for HBO, yet the fans will still have the original content.

George Lucas should have waited and let HBO run Star Wars and we for sure would have gotten amazing Star Wars stories and possibly a trilogy worth following! disney has destroyed star wars for me and it’s really disappointing.

In the books some professors definitely have plots and character development. They would be smart to stick to the books and not add unnecessary plot lines. There is plenty Rowling wrote, they don't need to add anything.

Moost forward to Voldemort background of 6th novel. Also whant to see more Dobby and his girlfriend. I hope Timothy Dalton playing chacter who was missing like Dobby in 4th. It’s great that they’re putting very talented and season writers behind this instead of nobodies and rookies. But the weirdest thing about this whole reboot series is what are they gonna do about the world aesthetics / look / and music?? Are they going to try and keep it similar to the movies and games? Or go something brand new? Coz if they keep the same look and all then they can just slowly start incorporating it into the Harry Potter theme park and stuff instead of making a brand new park 😂 that’s 20yrs of merchandise, tattoos and a who.e bunch of VERY VERY solidified franchise right there… it might have to be like what they did with the new start wars movies and how that stuff looks yknow

I wish the series wasn’t rebooting Harry Potter. I think a better option would have been the story of Harry’s parent’s’ generation at Hogwarts, the founders of Hogwarts, or even an adaptation of the Hogwarts Legacy game.

The movies and books were still coming out around the same time, creating an air of excitement for the franchise. Growing up with these films I never appreciated the titans they put on screen around these kids who helped to make us fall in love with this world. I think a T.V. series will be good, but I don't know if the demographics of fans are mostly millennials or if Gen Z and Alpha are a large part of the pie?

that's a terrible idea to get daniel radcliffe, emma watson, rupert grint to do more, but do more what? like no. Their story is over, the reboot will work because there is some space to retell the stories with more details and following the books more directly, thats fine. But there are plenty of stories that could be done, like dumbledore teenager seeing his best friend (love interest) to become interested by dark magic and ideas, could be even a little like rise of the nazis but in hogwarts, that would be interesting, and the series move as the grow and grow apart. THAT ID WATCH! There are other stories that can be explored too but that one has potential.

I don't know. A movie or series where Harry is now an Auror taking on dark wizards or dark magical creatures and enlisting Ron and Hermione to help him is something I would be on board for. I'd love to see a sort of monster of the week type deal where the bad guy isn't always ultimately Voldemort.

Its too soon. And the movies were amazing. Tough act to follow.....

When is it OK then? When the original fanbase is entering retirement? 🤔By the time Season 1 is slated to start (2026) it will be 15 years since the movies finished, and that's longer than the time between the first book release and the final movie (1997-2011). That's not too soon in my book! 😂

That's a stretch. It's being rebooted because HBO wants a slice of the pie, and I believe JKR has wanted to do a TV series even from the beginning, so it's incredibly exciting for her I imagine. I don't think she's motivated whatsoever by the money, the original franchise has already granted her billionaire status after all, so she is living extremely comfortably. The "fallout" with (some of) the movie cast was unfortunate, but I don't think it's that deep.

Hardly, for HBO it's about money. For JKR, it's most likely also about money. Her production company has lost a shit ton of money (74% drop in profits) and I assume she wants to reconcile that. Her production company will be producing the show.

I still think the tv series should be animated, however, this is exciting news

Ron as a character has the opportunity to surpass the original if they actually write him well and not as a bumbling idiot like in the movies. Book Ron was knowledgeable about the wizarding world from having grown up in it. They gave those traits to Hermione in the movies for some reason despite her growing up in the muggle world. A better written character for Ron that is more like the book can be better than the movie version.

They won’t be able to. Even if they could, a significant amount of people will never give it a chance. If WB wants to make more Harry Potter they need to buy the rights out right from JK or spend their money elsewhere.

It's just a new adaptation, please just seperate it from the films. Films will get a proper reboot around 2050.

If this Harry Potter series is a major success. HboMax might overthrow Netflix. I'd have all my top talent working on this, too.

The way I think about it. The books are written as a heroes journey set within a coming of age story. The movies really focused on the heroes journey aspect at the expense of the coming of age stuff. That’s not a terrible sacrifice to make in that scenario; but it’s the culmination of all the coming of age storylines and moments that gives emotional heft to the hero moments later in the story. Most of the character building and world building takes place in the coming of age parts, and the movies are missing some of that context. So it’s not like Tom Bombadil at all really. Because you’re missing threads that all enhance the final product, rather than just a single character or plot point. Also, the movies screwed up the Ginny relationship so bad that another attempt feels owed to the world.

The books are obviously awesome but the movies are far from perfect. This is a chance to do things better than last time. Did you say the same thing when they announced the movies?

This show or anything Harry Pottsr related will never be a pop culture phenomenon again as long as JK is involved. She has no interest in creating any new material, all she wants to do is destroy her legacy and cry about pronouns. Unless Warner Bros can buy the rights off her, this will be a colossal waste of money.

@@brg9327 no I wasn’t, video games are a very different medium from film and television, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen hogwarts legacy *not* on sale in the PlayStation store. Also, the pop culture phenomenon around that was the toxic discourse surrounding it when it came out. It was an absolute shitshow and if it was simply a bad game it would have made no money. If you think Star Wars discourse is bad right now, wait until these HBO shows come out. That is if they’re successful. They might just slip under the radar and lose millions for WB. Either way it’s very bad short term thinking doing all this with JKs involvement. She’s actually legitimately crazy and I would not be surprised if one day she blew up a hospital. And whatever she says on twitter that week an episode airs would definitely be a part of the discourse. It’s going to be awful What I’m proposing is to not let any of the great artists, film makers, actors etc go down with JK. Get rid of her now.
