    I play this bass for a while now and it became my main bass. Perfect tone and handling for playing reggae and it looks sharp. The only thing is the weight of this beast, a whopping 5.7kg clean.

    For a jazz bass, that thing is crazy deep and has such a fat and pure rich sound, I really want to buy one! Thanks for the great content as always Chris!

    Thanks for the video, it was sincere and enlightening, and you play so good dude! I'm really looking for a cheap bass, but it's not a total waste, because I want to make small jams and play in a pub. So, you just increased +5 points on this Harley Benton JB-75, it seems to me that it is currently the lowest cost-effective.

    I obviously don't know the wiring and coil set up of your Squier but having a hum on a single coil jazz bass using a vintage wiring setup using a single coil is a given, that's just physics.

    Very useful info here, thanks! However, I am curious what happened to the bass? Is there an update? I was thinking of buying it and pretty much doing the same thing you did to it, new pickups, maybe new tuners too, but I'm wondering if it's worth it, or if it actually works as well as I imagine it could, if you see this, lemme know if there will be an update, thanks!

  • @ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear

    It's worth it. I ended up putting Seymour Duncan's in it. But, I took them out to use with a Warmoth bass build, because the original pickups were pretty good. The only complaint I had with this bass, is the weight. Very heavy!!

  • @ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear

    @ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear

    I put seymour duncan "Quarter Pounders" in it and replaced the entire electronics chain, cover and all. That fixed it completely. However, I recently built a warmoth bass, which I stole those upgrades and installed into the warmoth. Now, this is back in its original factory condition. buzz and all. I think the stock pickups are just a bit noisy. I might at some point, shield all of the electronics cavities, to see if that helps.

  • @lodrezzon

    I had a similar issue with 2 Harley Benton Les Pauls I purchased last year. The buzz made the guitars unplayable. I replaced the CRAPPY pots and switches that came with the guitars ( yes soldering was involved), and lined the electronic's cavities and input jack cavity with copper tape. The guitars now sound phenomenal and are totally silent. I did not replace the pickups. In my mind, Harley Benton uses the cheapest pots and switches it can get its hands on to keep the cost down, but you pay for it in buzz. It cost me less than $30 for all new pots, switches, and copper tape, so if you have an issue, I'd say start with the electronics before swapping out the pickups.

    i was considering getting one of those... But the hum... Especially when U single one of the two pick-ups... i don't know... is shielding the cavities going to be enough to solve that? my idea was to sand the gloss finish off to give it a mat or satin aspect, and playing it without a pick guard. Since U're going to take this thing apart, would U mind showing us what's under the pick guard? & how U'd do to cancel that hum? Subscribing now!

  • @ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear

    @ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear

    I never took the pick guard off. Not sure what is under it. As far as the hum goes. These are true single coil pickups that will always have 60 cycle hum, when run individually. However they hum cancel when both are used. That's how I use my bass, so its fine for me. You'd have to install noiseless pickups to kill the hum completely. Personally, It's not an issue for me.
