Sounds like his producer pushed him to bring out the artistry within himself that HARDY knew he had but was shy to fully show the world. It took me until this interview to realize it was even a "country" record.

This Christian mom over forty not only loved SOLD OUT, but was anxiously waiting for you to put out a song like that. I am a huge country fan, but more than anything I am a fan of good music and song writing. I have been a huge Hardy fan from day one. I went to concerts and screamed every word to every song when he was an unknown opening act. He puts on the best show, hands down, across all genres. The last concert I went to was in Atwood, TN at a small dirt track. I was probably the oldest person, especially the oldest woman, in the crowd that knew all the lyrics to every song. I screamed and sang and danced my butt off the entire night. I was hoarse by the time I left. I have seen Aerosmith, Charlie Daniels, Stevie Miller Band, Tim McGraw, etc. None of them hold a light to a Hardy concert. This dude is a lyrical genius and a hugely talented artist. Just keep being authentically you, Hardy. The true fans will honor that and stay with you for life.

@@Ilikeicecreamandwar I am not even a Tim McGraw fan any longer. Haven't been in years since he started his liberal crap. It was many years ago when I saw him in concert. I not once in my post called him country. I was simply was stating that I have been to many concerts, big and small, from many genres and Hardy put on the best show ever! It was something positive I was putting out in the world. Can't we just leave it at that and let people share positivity without looking and seeking out things to be negative about everything someone posts??!!! Based on your negative comment, I doubt you are even really country. REAL cowboys and cowgirls have honor, morals and treat people with decency and respect until they give them a reason not to. And as far as my boots: mine are covered in manure and dust, not rhinestones and bling. Me and my family live on a five generation ranch. We are COUNTRY!! So don't talk to me about what is or isn't country. I live it every day.

Hardy's music literally was like digging into the depths of my childhood. Songs like Truck, Boots, literally any song I can remember a time in my life when those songs are familiar. But this......This record is nothing short of perfect. The country stuff is amazing. The Rock stuff is HARD but still has that country vibe. Rock fans won't get through the first half and country fans won't like the second half. if you are a fan of both the most amazing songwriting in the industry and an album that truly takes you on a journey that gradually gets harder as it progresses. Genius.

I can vouch for the part about his dad. I met him in the beer line up in the cheep seats of a Kid Rock show in Nashville. He was so proud of his son. It was about 2 weeks before Up Down came out. Makes me feel young again I was dying laughing in the interview when he said he was worried about the pushback of the 40 and over ladies in the church. Well I’m a big God-praising woman not much of a church girl. And 53. And I jam to this whole album rock out man I love it keep making me some more music. My house is really clean cleaning to sold out. Thank you for letting me find music I like again.❤❤❤❤❤❤. By the way, the type of music that you said you like is what I was driving around listening to in my 30s like the age you are now. So yeah, keep on rocking it.

Hardy is one of the few mainstream country artists that feels authentic. Fun record but I need to give it a couple more spins.

As I've gotten older and listened to more music than what I was "supposed to" when I was a kid, I've realized that country and rock are different faces of the same coin. And honestly that's what has gotten me into county. I used to hate it but it was that I didn't understand it. There is definitely always time for artists to be themselves. Everyone loves a mix. And if you have a mix with your artistry then even better! Be different, and be you. Fuck what anyone else thinks. The right people will always gravitate. And haters always gonna hate lol

Incredible interview….❤so drawn to you like I have been to Springsteen and later Eric Church. Maybe it’s the stories in your songs or maybe it’s your character. Perhaps both. Sincerely, ol lady over 40 😂

The Nashville scene needs more dudes like this guy! Folks who aren't afraid to cross over into let alone acknowledge the Rock scene, and who aren't too busy trying to fit in and be "Country", constantly "Frankenstein" referencing Country artists and music they grew up on, blabbing about God, Jesus, the Opry and what not, and calling their music something it clearly isn't... 😎

Country music was founded on the good grace of the Lord. Country folks live for Jesus Christ and give all the glory to him because he is king. If it wasn't for the Opry then country music wouldn't exist. True country boys and girls will always pay homage cause it's the WHITE thing to do. Clearly your not real country, and probably a mentally ill obiden voter.

I like how he brings up the co-writers on "Wait in the Truck"....I've noticed songwriters always mention or are mentioned by others as "the writer" of a song but in reality every single song has 2 or 3 writers on the song. Idk why they don't call themselves co-writers more but it seems like so many people think he's over there writing all these hits by himself. Not saying he's not great at it just get annoyed about that.
