In many parts of Asia ear cleaning is as popular as getting a haircut. It’s been a part of Chinese culture for over 3,000 years and has developed into something of an art form. But in addition to removing excess earwax, to some people, myself included, it feels indescribably pleasurable (and a bit painful) when performed by an experienced practitioner. So today I’m visiting 乐享汗蒸头疗SPA in New York City to get my earwax extracted and I was truly SHOCKED by what came out. Just remember that ear picking should only be done by a trained professional.

    Hope his eardrum won't get swollen after this terrific cleaning procedure . Trust me ear problems are terrible , I had ear infection and smelly discharge from ear for atleast 10 years of my life . neglected the issue finally when I visited ENT Specialist he told me the infection has eaten away the ear bone structure so i had to undergone surgery to correct the issues now better since last 7 years . This ear cleaning is too harsh and may result in ruptured eardrum or swelling and infection. Always visit a ENT doctor or use OTC Ear wax dissolving drops to clean ear .

    I have very small ear canals; had tubes surgically put in my ears twice as a child. When the tubes were no longer inside my ears, I would see an ear, nose, and throat specialist . My favorite part of the visit was when the doc hooked me up to a machine that would circulate filtered water through the nose and ears. The filtered water moving through the ear canals felt soooo good.

    As an audiologist, the ear cleaning portion made me cringe more than I can explain! Ear wax is healthy and normal, it has antibacterial and anti fungal properties. Cotton swabs and most of those tools have no place inside ears and cleaning should be done in the least risky manner (typically water) or with specialized medical tools by an audiologist or ENT, only when the wax buildup is sufficient to cause a problem. It’s absolute BS that you were told to do it once per month (I’m sure they would love the $$ though). Also, this type of “ear stimulation” is not worth the risk of permanent damage to the delicate ear drum and ear canal. I strongly and respectfully advise against utilizing this service again.

  • @BakaTaco

    @BakaTaco

    This is what I was thinking, too. I'm not an ear expert by any means, but I do know that earwax is produced by your body for a reason. If you have too much, there's probably things you can do to fix it, but I was always told "anything smaller than your elbow should not be going in your ear." Your elbow obviously doesn't fit in your ear. See my point? This feels like one of those "you must be beautiful" scams, if that makes any sense. No reason to do it, except for removing "gross" things that belong in your body. Earwax is very important for our ears, and while I'm talking about it, so is your snot! EDIT: And your neck and back, but that's a different topic. Not every single treatment is actually important. In fact, quite the opposite, in cases like ear cleaning. This can seriously damage your ears. Once or twice is probably fine, but don't make it a habit. Go see a proper doctor or specialist if there's something you're concerned about!

    Yeah no reason to be prodding around in delicate ear canals unless there is a real reason to do so. They are self cleaning from what I know, and if you really feel like there is excess wax put a few drops of hydrogen peroxide diluted with water to melt it and drain it out.

    I bought a tiny metal "spoon" made for cleaning ears. Needless to say, I use it very carefully, since it doesn't have anything that stops you from inserting it too far. (There's an American device that does have a limiter, but it's plastic, and I've broken the too-weak plastic end after some normal use.) I'd be curious to see if they found anything in my ear after I used mine. They suggest cleaning once a month? A lot would accumulate in two or three weeks.

    Get the ear wax kit from like Walgreens or Walmart with the spray bottle thing and the oil drops it’s worth every penny I was practically def in both ears and then got that kit and tried it out used the oil for close to two days in each ear then used the spray bottle to blow out the chunks that I had in my ears highly recommend do that. Poking your ears with needles and little things like in the video will just impact wax down deeper into your ears lol

    Asian earwax tends to be more flaky then westerners who have wet earwax, your ear is not dirty, its healthy. You shouldn't clean your ears regularly on the inside unless you have hearing issues or pain in which case you go to a doctor. What can happen is your ear will start to produce MORE wax if you remove it and then you might actually get blockage which causes hearing issues. Poking there easily causes abrasions and tears since the inner ear is so sensitive and can lead to infections which can be hard to get rid of. Wax is not dirty, it is exactly the thing that cleans your ears of things that get in there and protects your hearing. It's enough to clean outside the ears. With healthy ears wax comes out on its own or you can aid it with clean oil you get from the pharmacy. Only if you spend a lot of time in very dirty or loud conditions without ear protection or if you have genetical issues with narrow ear canals etc do you actually need help with cleaning ears regularly. Otherwise, you are likely only causing yourself issues with this practice. Plus the chances of getting your eardrum punctured by sticking things in it is common (which is why it is designed to be protected by being very hard to get to). Its super painful and then you might need to get surgery to repair your hearing. I get its a tradition but this one is just not worth it. Dont stick stuff into your ears guys!

    Go to Walgreens and buy a 3 dollar ear bulb and fill a cup with warn water and irragate each ear until no more wax comes out. You tilt your head over the sink and watch all the big globs of wax fall out. Nothing to it and it's really simple. I"ve been doing this for many years so no need to go pay somone to do this. Also, if you go to the doctors office, they will do the same thing for a cost.

    I'm Vietnamese and we carry this same tradition and I think Im pretty qualified to say that Chinese ear cleaning can be pretty dangerous. Any rough contact on the ear drum can be harmful and bruising or scraping on the inside of the ear canal is a surefire way of getting an infection. Don't get me wrong, it feels better than sex, but it can be very dangerous especially when the treatment is rough
