Thanks for the review. The product is Ukrainian, and the price is American. The average salary of an electrician in Ukraine is $470. In 2014, I had a salary equivalent to €290, and in 2016 it was equivalent to €140, due to the drop in the exchange rate of the Ukrainian hryvnia against the dollar and the euro. At that time we left to work (live) in Poland

Thanks for the content. I believe that the difference between the Hapstone CBN plates and the premiums that you reference in the video relate to the abrasive material thickness. The cheaper ones are just plates that are surface coated with CBN abrasive. The premium ones are metallic bonded stones with 3mm thick abrasive layers. These can be used for a lifetime and still keep going, whereas the Start series will wear out quickly, as the abrasive layer is extremely thin. It has nothing to do with the grit rating. In fact, if you finished your sharpening progressions with the surface bearing plates to a very high grit, then introduced the "premium 80 grit", you would bring your mirror or near mirror edge back to a matte, rough finish. That 80 grit metallic bonded stone is extremely coarse!

Nice review. I was trying to figure out the way to go if I were to get a Hapstone. The R 2 looks like a better clamp than the R S with its little screw pivot, but is that even needed with 2, 3 or 4 clamps on the R S holding the blade. I also cannot really gauge the size difference between the 2 . The R 2 is larger, but how much?

If that is the case then I am definitely serious about getting this unit! What concerned me is that a set of blades might cost the same as this unit itself or maybe even more!

I don't understand what the point is of being so exact when measuring the angle at the start of the sharpening, when it is going to change as you move along the edge of the blade anyway. Since, it is a function of the distance of the section of the blade's edge you are currently at from the pivot point.

I have the Pro currently and am wondering about this as an upgrade. to me the Pro doesn't hold the knives firmly and the angle difference between one side of the knife and flipping it over is about 1 degree. can you measure the angle on both sides of the knife without readjusting please?

no however most sharpeners are going to have a slight difference side to side, as long as its not dramatic its fine, you just want it as close as possible, because knife grinds are different in many cases, even if you cant tell one side might be ground slightly thicker

I think it's an absolute home run of a system but they really screwed up by not including a spring stop collar to keep you from riding the stone up onto the blade. They should at least clearly recommend to people to add that $6 item to their order cause I would never sharpen any blade on any guided system without it.

Also the cbn stones are all the same thickness, where the venevs most of the time are not. Both great stone sets. Both definitely need to be lapped with silicone carbide powders. @@Ub3rMario Well than pay $300 for what you can just do with an angle guide and a marker. Here's the thing though, you don't gain expertise by doing it like this and there's really no advantage with this if you spend a little time sharpening knives. Start with inexpensive steel that is easy to sharpen, then work your way up to more difficult steels. As long as you don't use knives for field use, in which case you'll need to cart this contraption with you or hope someone is there to help you if you need your knife sharpened.
