I like it. The ball joint, the fine tune adjustment and the stones did it for me. Thanks for the review. 👍

If you could rotate the base away from you, a larger knife could be sharpened. The blade hanging out beyond the table, but then you have a stability issue if you can not bolt down the base.

Wow Steve, I woke up thinking this morning. "Can anything truly be a TSFPROF killer?" And now you made a video about it. WHAT ARE THE ODDS

I think you're right on, it's a very good sharpening system for the hobbyist. Not being able to handle quarter inch spines rules it out for me, although I agree the base could be modified to handle longer blades. Thanks for the review.

Nice review. Thanks! I don't understand why they eliminated the slope at the base of the clamp. Perhaps 10~15 degrees front up (as in other models) would be enough to place the tip of the blade further forward and eliminate this problem without compromising the sliding of the rear shaft.

My thoughts went all MacGyver when you showed the long blade flipping issue... Out with the cut-off saw and drill, grab a few bolts or screws from the spare bolt and screw jar, and away we go.

where it says "zero level" is the spot you use as the zero reference point for your digital level. Most all knives have a taper ground into them so the angle you're setting is relative to the taper/bevel and is not the cutting edge angle.

Easy fix on the hapstone. Remount the tower forward enough to clear the blade interference and counterweight the backend. Great system though. Gracias compadre.

With a hacksaw adjustment you could flip longer blades with offending base material residing in the garbage can. You would have to rethink the mounting options. Might be scary for the young folk though. Most definitely would void the warranty.

You can always turn the base around and hang the knife clamps off the edge of the table just be sure to use a C clamp to keep the sharpener from falling off the table.

This is a pretty interesting option, looks like they put some really good thought into the design, with an exception for the base blocking longer knives. Seems that it would be fairly straightforward to make a new base or even bench mount it to work around the issue if that's really needed. Also, thank you for understanding that a "paid promotion" does not only mean an exchange of legal tender for a positive review! Without having one in hand, the review sounded quite fair.

The Hapstone does not include any stones where the pioneer includes diamond stones for the same price

Very nice review .Short , but telling everything one needs to know . One thing I see in your video is , when sharpening there seems to be some WOBBLE happening in the whole clamp itself . Did you find that effects the sharpener or how the blade is cut ??? Or is there anything you might use to stop that wobble ???? I`m shopping around for a new system and do not want to waste time on being sold a system which i may not buy anyway .Just ther facts will do i. Thanks

For longer blades, there's literally nothing preventing you from installing the base backwards. You'd just have to clamp to a table at that point. No need to grind the base.

Great review! I'm thinking of getting one. I have a DMT Aligner and full set of 4" DMT stones - do you know if these will fit in the Hapstone? They don't have that little 45 degree bevel like the Edge Pro stones.

How long does something like this last in a knifemaker's shop? I'm interested in one, but if I'm making a knife a week, how long do the stones last? I'll keep an eye out for a bigger clamp set too, no 0.250 is a deal breaker for me anyway.

Different types of stones wear at different rates. Quality diamond or ceramic stones last a long time.

I'm concerned with the amount of flex in those clamps. It looks like it's because the rotating assembly gives a bit, is that right? Can it be adjusted out? How is the flex compared to the Kadet?

  • @GreenBeetle

No real flex I just didn’t have it tightened enough. It’s a solid build.

I think, take an angle grinder to the base and buy a clamp if you want to use this on larger knives, obviously not an ideal solution but still a solution

Thank you for your attention, the stone does not need to apply force, it should work under its own weight, as for the fixation on the table, with this everything is fine, the sharpener does not dangle like "crazy" weight under three kilograms is quite large for such a compactness. This allows the system to be stable.

definitely better than the TSProf as it doesn't support the invasion of Ukraine. TSProf might not support the war, but supporting them puts money into the country which in turn supports the war. nope.

next time, watch your video. no mention of the play clearly visible as your stroke the stone. Just bought a Ruixin RX-009 for $45 and guess what? doesn't have any of the limitations here, doesn't have the play, has a proper base fixture. That $230 difference would buy the best set of stones imaginable. Longevity? Buy 6 Ruixins.

  • @GreenBeetle

    @GreenBeetle

That play is from a loose knife clamp it just had to be tightened. This was a great little sharpener. Ruixin pro is hot garbage and has limitations too numerous to count. “Proper base fixture” right…. 😂
