    @@Errcyco yeah, what he said ☝️, it's a skill that can only be honed (pun unintentional lol) with hours of practice. Sharpening by hand without a guided system is how I do it because I have been sharpening for years and honestly, I look for excuses to sharpen most days, it's very therapeutic to me and a nice stress reliever/engaging activity if you like that sort of thing. Keep at it and you will be a master in no time.

    Great Review... I'v been sharpening for years. Free hand, Belt grinder, KME etc. The TSPROF is my favorite. I use the Blitz 360 for pocket knives and the K03 for larger knives. The Kadet is a great middle of the road sharpener. The Blitz is sized right for smaller blades. If you are only doing pocket knives go with the Blitz. If you need to take care of kitchen knives the Kadet is a great choice. Clamp systems produce a better result for most folks than any other method.

    I purchased the same sharpener from gritomatic in a black kit. It come with upgraded stone holder to hold both the dovetail style stones and on the opposite side it has a larger space to hold the Venev dual sided style stones. I cannot say how well the basic version that you have works, because I dont have one. It may very well be plenty sufficient for holding different stones. But the upgraded version does a really good job holding the Venev stones and can be purchased separately. It is worth buying for sure. I’ve watched a number of them, but I’m curious about something after watching this one. As a freehand sharpener, do you still recommend this over any of the other guided systems? I’ve heard good things about KME and the Worksharp, but this does seem to be better quality overall. I unfortunately don’t have the free time to get into hand sharpening, but would this be a good “one and done” system for someone to get consistent results? This thing is cool but I’m already too accustomed to my work sharp and in a little deep in attachments that give it a lot of versatility. Old habits die hard and I don’t think I could give up the ability to quickly pull the clamp out of the system without removing the knife so that you can check specific portions of the edge in more detail thruout the process. When trying to for example straighten a messed up wavy edge it helps a lot.

    How are the more affordable brands like Lanskys? I've used the Scotts, which I don't think are even as good as the Lansky, and it was workable. Keep in mind that the biggest/hardest blade I used on on was a 3¾" M390 blade on an M4 Lionsteel. The blade I'm going to be reprofiling the edge on is only 2.9", but it's CMP M4 tool steel, which I'm told is like trying to sharpen granite. The Scotts was okay for a few things, I normally free hand but when I'm changing the bevel I want to make sure the geometry is as close to perfect as possible. I know the M4 is going to be a nightmare, but I really don't have $120+(let alone $400+) to spend on a sharpener at this time, like to be below $80 if possible. Thoughts? I'm even willing to pay someone else to sharpen the M4. Normally paying someone else would be blasphemous, but the fact that this one is so difficult, and the fact that it probably won't need to be fully sharpened again for a number of years, and by then I'll be able to handle it myself.

    Lol. I was just watching TSProf videos to decide If I'm getting the Blitz Pro The Kadet /Kadet pro/Kadet Nero or the big K03. I have kinda landed on the Kadet Nero/Pro. Since most of the knifes I sharpen is pocket knives some fixed blades. But I'm hoping it can sharpen a 9" blade since I also got a lot of Scandinavian Leuku's.

    I think I will be fine with the Kadet but I will be limited to 150mm long stones whereas with K03 you can use up to 200mm long stones. But that system is also much larger which isn't ideal for me living in an apartment.

  • @MrEric0822

    @MrEric0822

    5 ай бұрын

    Watch Gunny Talk videos (Scott Gunn). He talks about this. Basically, you want to clamp the knife parallel to an imaginary line from the pivot of the knife to the tip of the knife, which means you end up clamping pretty straight across the spine. Use the Sharpie and adjust accordingly. If you clamp parallel to the imaginary line from heel to tip, you will end up with a consistent angle but your bevel with widen toward the tip because the steel is thicker there. A lot depends on blade shape, but this is a good general rule.

    Sharpening question, Jared: I have the Kadet. I bought double sided Venev 1x6 stones: 100/240, 400/800, and 1200/1500. I also got a separate Venev 80 grit for serious reprofiling. For stropping, I got some basswood cut to 1x6 with 1 & 0.5 micron gunny juice. My question is: if I’m finishing up a stone progression on 1500, is that a fine enough grit that I can I go right to the 1 & 0.5 micron strops for a nice highly polished finish, or should I get a coarser grit gunny juice to use before the 1 micron? Let’s say 3 or 6 micron? Any feedback is appreciated!

    So portable Funky that you have to angle cube both holder arm from base and stone mounted on guide. Zero holder and read angle on stone. Micro adjustable screw at top or use as depth compensator. I find it works better to use same size stones and have that brass piece with hole be movable to adjust angle.. Mine sucked eggs out of box as the main shaft on stand was so tight to move and adjust arms. Had to sand the corners. Filet clamps and solo clamp so friggin expensive but you can belt sand the ones they give really thin like the filet clamps. Venev stones are the bomb if you can afford it. Their duamond coated shit stones good to 62 hrc. Handle knob will fall off eventually . Note to users curved blades set it so its not 90 degrees to base arm make it so handle side and point are equal distanced often I find using 1 side with 2 clamps. Their angle cube sux nads...gritomatic. spend a few bucks more and get one that adjusts instantly. Other than those points its a great unit and packs away in a draw easily. Cheers
