+TinAmazing G, i think you've got it a little bit wrong...I mean she's absolutely, insanely good when she does stuff like this whereas she sucks big time when trying to look sexy and turn to more poppy music, which she does to look "in". anyway she's a great artist and a very skilled singer, the day she stops overdoing to impress she will release some badass album im sure of that...

+TinAmazing G I personally think that she's trying too hard to look and sound adult. She wants to be explicit. Well, she's bonkers for trying to do that though. I think the "normal" her makes her stand out even better. Her voice is just so good, also she's good in "The climb"and "When I look at you" too... I love her for her talent that she rarely shows off. Respects.

I know some beautiful female musicians that have not been able to kick start their careers, who wind up touring folk festivals semi-professionally. Even Melanie Safka (the lady Miley was singing with) was lucky to ever become popular, she was almost totally unknown and she landed a gig at Woodstock without having heard of the festival before.... There are thousands of attractive musicians who never make it, some of them are much more talented that the ones that do make it. Becoming a famous musician may be closer to having a requisite talent- beauty, record deal and winning the lottery put together than what you suggest: likability and talent. Many of the people who are able to become internet famous musicians sign record deals so they can get better marketing, distribution networks and tours. Justin Bieber started out as internet famous, but his internet popularity was really just a proof of concept and likely profitability to the people that invest in the careers of artists so that his real career could be engineered. Miley's career was engineered from the start, she was a Disney baby, she was given professionally written songs to perform (she co-wrote some of them, not sure if she really did, or if Miley was advised to claim that she co-wrote them to get song writing royalties). If she did not have a famous father, TV show and recording deal to market the Miley Cyrus brand I doubt she would have ever made it. Her future as a pop star looks a bit suspect, I am doubtful of whether she can change her persona again to remain relevant, after portraying someone off the rails she may not be able to be seen as a normal person again when the people who like music for it's spectacle get bored of her when the next engineered over the top pop star comes along.

Melanie was the Miley of 1969, in a way. She had one BIG hit in "Lay Down," a medium-range hit in "Brand New Key" and "Look What They've Done" charted too. She was a little bit more than a "one hit wonder," but she couldn't really get a pop career going. Somebody said "she looks old" here, but she is 65+ years old (she's 70 now). Take it from a guy who was a teenager at the time, she was smoking hot.

  • @russj8754

JStar: After "Brand New Key" she was pretty much labelled a novelty act in America. The fact that her music is still being celebrated 50 years later however, is a testament to how she was able to capture the spirit of the 60's scene. While she may not have gained great commercial success, she has stayed true to her roots and maintains a loyal fan base.

With pop stars, you don't need to become as big as Elvis, the Beatles or Jimi Hendrix. It is perfectly acceptable to shine for a moment when your songs happen to strike a chord with the culture at large and then retire to spend time with your family. Melanie did not need to become a bazzilion heir, I bet she and her family were able to lead a comfortable life from the money generated by a very successful career as a singer songwriter (successful compared to how most musicians are not able to support themselves or their families from their music). I find musicians that are able to have grace when in the public eye and when outside it are more admirable than the people that get enmeshed in celebrity and turn themselves into something less than human chasing fame. I am glad the Melanie has been able to lead a human life.

Ever since Miley did that "big change" in her appearance and attitude, I've definitely started liking her more. I love the way she acts n doesn't care bout what people think. Because As people grow older, things change and they always want to reflect more and more who they truly are. Yes I figure it is hard when you have like a million people looking up to you. I'm sure she knows of the fact that there's younger people that she should be aware of... but none of which know the crap she probably had to endure just to be the "right image" that society was rooting for. I love that she was ballsy enough to follow her heart and live by her own beliefs and standards.

Amel M I agree she has a good country voice. I just hope you're not implying that this is a country song. because it is far from a country song. this is folk music from the 1970s. I know I was there. and country people dislike folk people. they thought we are all a bunch of dirty hippies. we protested the war we protested segregation we protested our government. we marched on Washington we burnt flags and bras. we're the reason we had Barack Obama as a president. we need more people to sing and to put their feelings out in the open.✌

Sure she's made a fool of herself at times, and has done things she was probably better off not doing. But in the end she has done what she wanted and what made her happy and honestly, that's all that matters.
