So sad... My husband went to high school with Melanie. She gave a concert and would always walk with a guitar on her back. As for me, being French born and now living on Melanie's territory in New Jersey, this is with this song we remember Melanie, for the French line "ils ont changé ma chanson." RIP and thank you.

This goes out to my precious Mom who passed away the other day. She always held me up and backed me. She loved all four of her kids so much and would have done anything for us. I couldn't have found a better mom if I tried. I already miss you so much. So sorry you couldn't be here today. I know St Patricks always been your favorite day of the year. You were never a beer drinking so guess I'm gonna have to find me some Irish Whiskey and will take a shot for both of us to celebrate life and our family heritage. All of my love to you. Please always stay close to me, I still need you in my life so much. Both my Mom and my best friend always. We taught each other so much but you taught me so much more than anyone else. Thank you for introducing me to the best of music. It's helped carry me through life and hopefully it will help carry me through these last remaining years of my life. It's going to be so hard without you here with me but I'll try. I love you so much Mommy. This song has always made me think of you so from me to you, hope you are still listening. ❤❤❤

I was in NY in 2002 chaperoning my sons choir and saw that she was performing at a quaint distant club called The Turning Point. I had the other chaps cover for me and paid a cabby over $100 to drive through NY, then Jersey through the woods until we arrived to find out a bus took the same route for $4. I met Melanie and enjoyed her fantastic performance. What a voice!

you were in Piermont, NY. you got off of the Tapanzee, turned left on the main road, then made another left down a hill on some small road that faced the Hudson River. I saw Melanie perform at the Turning Point many times. She was always with her husband Peter and son Beau. She didn't seek fame or fortune, but she left at her mark with everyone she met. I remember one night a fan yelled out to sing "Angel of the Morning" and she said that it was Juice Newton's song. not hers and she sang it anyway. How many shows have you attended where you could talk to the talent and they respond back to you with kindness??

This was my favourite song in 1970/71. I’d spent years of being sexually abused by Catholic Brothers and a Priest at a NSW Australian boarding school and under the dreadful pressure of a Mum who had Narcissistic Personality Disorder. I made the decision to leave Australia for a Government job in Australian administered Papua New Guinea. Melanie’s song voiced words that spoke to how my life (not song) had been wrecked and gave me inspiration that I could make “everything alright”. I did. It took many years, study and professionally qualified, before I reached happiness., Lived around the World but happily back in Australia now. In my 70’s now and still listening still listening to and loving Melonie’s songs! Thanks Melonie!

This is the first I've heard this song. My boyfriend recently passed and I've been cleaning out his things. In the closet was a box of letters from his first real girlfriend in 1970, and a few written by him that were never sent - of the break up/ it won't work variety. One contained the line "Look what you've done to my song!" (Yes, I read some of the letters). That one line summed up pages of love and grief. Glad to have found it on KZread.

There was no auto tune in 1971; the digital technology didn’t exist. The sound came from the set up ( the ubiquitous “ sound check”). How do I know? Because I was just out of a technical apprenticeship with Marconi in Chelmsford and working as a sound technician for the BBC; my first job.

I'm almost 19 in June. And I wish I could've seen her then. I wish I could've seen those days. I'm not the kid to say I was born in the wrong time because of the hate that saying gets. But then elder people say it's sad my generation will never see or feel what life really was like. How it was to live. Be young wild and free. But I really wish I could've felt the way life was. Living more free. No phones. No computers. School wasn't online. The government was more for the people by the people. And not for the government by the government like today. 40-60 cents for a gallon of gas. Seems pretty good to me. People saw you as your appearance. Not some online status that you're know as by people you don't even know. Being able to walk around and not care what people see you as. Because everyone was different. And themselves. Not trying to be someone else.

It’s a comfort to know that many from the current generation are discovering all this wonderful art. And, as much as their contemporary music is a part of their modern lives, the artistry, storytelling, vocals and musicianship of our generation’s stars is making quite an impact, and many converts, to genres they’d never have known, but for their reactions. It’s a pleasure to relive these performances and share their excitement upon first-hearing.

What Melanie is singing about is the Hellywood 'elite' who run the music industry. These gifted musicians sign a contract with stipulations that the words to their music may be edited (or replaced) by the satanic filth using double entendres that are subliminally influencing ALL who listen. They are damned. I feel for these musicians...they were tricked/seduced into signing these agreements for fame & fortune. She most likely was given this song by these creatures to 'tell us' what they've done and are STILL doing. Just one example: "Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard" by Paul Simon...is essentially putting foot tapping music to words about PEDOPHILIA.!!! Now, they are devouring our children right before our eyes! Jesus is on His Way! (Thank God)

It's really a blessing to find that rare artist who can sit down with a guitar and just mesmerize you. Melanie, Harry Chapin, Bobby Gentry, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, and just a few others have that power. Melanie in particular is special to me. Her personality just shines through, and you just know that she is someone that you would like to have for a friend. It just makes me happy to hear her voice. Also, takes me back to a simpler time. Melanie's voice is like comfort food. I loved music from my childhood. I have loved music from phase of my life, but some artists you just always keep with you. I will be listening to Melanie for the rest of my life. And it has to be an artist's dream to know that, if you just got through to a few people this way, it was all worthwhile.
