Hank Williams was my father's favorite singer. I love his music and know most of the songs he did. His life story is so tragic but he will live on through the legacy of his music. What a life to have touched so many in only 29 years.

Mine too! He walked around the house whistling all of his tunes, then he would break out in "poor old Kalijah". He has been gone for 32 years now, I miss him terribly!

He dominated country music from 1947 until his death. 34 top 15 hits including 8 number ones in 5 1/2 years. 3 more #1's in the months after his death. His songs are still being covered.

I always put Hank in his time. Kids were getting cars for the first time. Hank music spoke to the heart more than the Big Band music being played at the time. He released one hit after the next, writing most of the songs himself. A true superstar. It's a pity you listened to Charley Pride's version of Kaw-liga. Hank wrote it and it is his best song, imo.

Hank Williams definitely was always in pain, severe and chronic back pain that led to his tragic reliance on pain medication and alcohol, and it probably all combined to cause his early death. But he left behind a body of work that's appreciated to this day. I speculate without fear of being wrong that we always will appreciate it. Thanks for playing it, Harri!

"Your Cheatin' Heart" (1953). Hank Williams penned many legendary poetic turns of phrase. Some say his song "Move It On Over" was the first true rock and roll song. But if that's so, it might make his song "Jambalaya (On the Bayou)" the first pop song too. But I'm not keeping score on that. His music is definitely worth a good listen and then another and another. When you're ready for more from Hank Williams, check out some of these classic tunes -- "Hey, Good Lookin", "Long Gone Lonesome Blues", "Lovesick Blues", "Honky Tonk Blues", "I Saw The Light", "Lost Highway", and "A Mansion On The Hill" -- along with many others. Also check out some of the great covers of his songs recorded over the years -- "Move It On Over" by George Thorogood (1978), "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" by Cowboy Junkies (1988), "I Saw the Light" by The The (1995) -- The The recorded an entire album, titled "Hanky Panky", of Hank Williams songs. Their version of "Honky Tonkin'" is sparse and yet gritty. Their version of "Your Cheatin' Heart" is reverbed soaked and deliberate, with a really nice touch of piano embellishing the torchiness of the song. And that's before the harmonica joins in.

It’s funny Harry how I became of age in the 19 x 19 mid 1960s so Mike John was more or less rock ‘n’ roll and psychedelic rock but then I start hang around with a kid in band marching band and he became my best friend and he was exposed to a wider variety of music and his grandfather was with a group or was head of the group called Possum trot Bruce and they used to play out of Los Angeles and he used to come by playing the piano and he was more or less a country guy from Oklahoma anyway after a while I started thinking well hell that’s just as good a psychedelic rock I mean everything‘s pretty much the same and I started listening to country and folk and big band and expanding my mind backwards instead of forwards when I started expanding my mind both ways like you’re doing now anyway this is a great great song it’s a great great man

Harri, Hank Sr also recorded under the name Luke the Drifter. Hank Sr was my daddy's favorite country singer and it's the best country music that I grew up on. Here are some Luke the Drifter songs I think you should listen to (and even react to if you want): Pictures From Life's Other Side, Men with Broken Hearts, Help Me Understand, Too Many Parties and Too Many Pals, Please Make Up Your Mind, I've Been Down That Road Before, Be Careful of Stones that You Throw, I Dreamed About Mama Last Night (this one has always brought tears to my eyes and more so since I lost my mother in 2018 at the age of 93), The Funeral, Beyond the Sunset, Just Waitin', Everything's Okay. Harri, that's the whole darn album!

Harri you need to dive into this rabbit hole. You could call it white soul. The man sang from his heart. He wrote many of them as well. Try "I Saw The Light" or "Some day you'll Call my Name"! Hank is in three hall of fames, Country, Song Writers & Rock. He was taught much of his trade by a man called Rufus "Tee Tot" Payne. Interesting story for sure. My dad taught me my colors before I could read. He'd have me put the old 78RPM records on the victrola for him. I remember Red was Ernest Tubb because of the label. Patti Page had the Yellow an Hank's was Black. The other colors were there too. This was in 1952 when Hank was still alive. Dad was sad when Hank died. I was too, but we still listened and sang along with the records. Hank's my roots in music. I still listen to him and many others these days. I use his photo for my advatar on the left of this page. Give Hank III a listen too. He looks more like GrandDad and sounds like him too. He also writes songs that sound like Hank. The "Staight To Hell" album was sold as X rated and for general public by Walmart. Hank Three is also another Outlaw as in keeping "The Family Tradition" alive! Amelas One

Oh, and btw, in “Your Cheatin’ Heart”he was singing about his ex-wife Audry. (Hank Jr.’s mother) As you’ve probably noticed Hank MEANT every song he ever sung. It’s how the exorcised the pain that was in his heart.
