Handspring Mount Tutorial

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hi everyone! This is the handspring mount tutorial I recently did Live on a different social media platform.
In this tutorial, you'll see exactly how I teach handspring mounts in classes. I tackle in two ways - from the top and from the bottom.
This is split grip as I'm not a fan of twisted grip.
(Ps. Looking for an excellent pole grip product? Check out Lupit Pole Grip Pads. The perfect consistency to make your hands grippy for the pole. I love how I can apply to the pole for extra grip! Easy to order, available on Amazon: amzn.to/3gLP9KZ )

This is a tricky one to master. There are some pole moves that I can do, and some I can't. Right now, I've been focussing on pole moves that bring me joy. Perhaps instead of focussing on going up into the move, maybe looking at descending into it? Meaning, going into your invert, creating a secure foundation and lowering into the move. Hope this helps and I do understand the frustration around some pole moves.

How did you know I needed help??? Sister and I love that trick! She does great at it, but I need help! I can get up with a spotter boost, but not by myself. Your video is helpful and you have a great personality and outlook. Keep those videos coming!

Thank you so much (I feel so bad for missing these comments, but have now fixed that!) I had a spotter for awhile.. just that last boost to hold the move. Another point to remember - "kick, hop, twist" I think these cues as I go into the move. I kick, then hop and then twist chest to the sky. That also helped me with the movement. You are totally on the path - don't worry!

I love how you break this down into steps for both conditioning for it and the actual execution. I'm determined to get my handspring and cartwheel mounts this year! Your tutorial will help me tremendously!

You are very welcome! I found the Handspring mount took me a long time to master. Meaning.. a year! Work on it from the top - that was a key ingredient for me. I had to get used to holding the move, contracting all my muscles (especially obliques)and using my strength. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Thank you so much! I appreciate hearing from you - what a great way to start the week! I love pole, have been poling/teaching for 11 years now. I found it took me awhile to master the handspring mount.. like close to a year. And it wasn't something I started working on from the beginning of my pole career - I had to build up the strength and coordination. It's one of those "it takes time" kind of moves. (which we all hate to hear!) So glad this helped you and hope you continue to love pole too! Have fun! Cheers, Jane

Oh heavens! I am so sorry I missed this! I wasn't getting notifications, but I have now fixed that! Handspring mounts took me 1.5 years to achieve. I know that's not what people want to hear... but it was more of a journey than anything else. As I worked on this, and on other moves, my strength improved and the move got easier. Add in oblique training. You will use your obliques to stabilize your body. That's one piece that helped me improve.

Thank you for your answer, it's such a frustrating move, I'm starting to hate it, but I will have a great celebration the day I can do it.

I have been doing twisted grip. Would I still have control if I did your grip instead?? I am still having problems and need a spotter.

Hi there! Sorry for the delayed response! I find using split grip to be better for my shoulder and elbow than twisted grip. Because of this, I don't do twisted grip. If you noticing any pain in your shoulders and elbows, from doing twisted grip, I highly recommend ceasing use. Split grip is kinder on your body. Work on a handspring mount to butterfly first, before handspring to ayesha. And work from the top - holding ayesha, jacknife and candlestick off the pole. This will build your strength for the handspring mount. Glad to hear you are using a spotter! It took me 1.5 years to achieve a full handspring mount.
