Hands-On with the Sub-$30k Kia EV3

We're getting a first in-person look at the Kia EV3 electric car at the Busan International Mobility Show in South Korea. Looking like a close competitor to the Volvo EX30, this compact EV SUV looks like it could be the affordable electric vehicle the market needs. But, how is the quality in person, are the specs promising, and importantly... can you fit in the back seat?

Nice! A sub-$30K EV that with a range of about 300-ish miles? YES! Mother Earth needs more of this!

Hyundai Kia are low key dominating the non-Tesla EV market. Glad they targeted the Model Y. I’ve driven the EV9 and was absolutely impressed. Huge, spacious and comfortable.

Keep it close to $30k and it’s our next car! Living in LA, this would be a perfect commuter and errand car. I’m glad to see that manufacturers are starting to think about us working peasants with their EV offerings.

I like it. I very much like that there are a lot of "real" buttons for audio and climate, so using the touch screen is not the only option.

It looks like they're using a lot of capacitive buttons. Whoever decided to put that in a car, should be fired, along with everyone who signed off on it. Capacitive buttons are horrendous on a TV, but in a car it's the dumbest idea ever.

Whoa, it looks kinda chunky still but sounds properly compact. Quite refreshing to see more in that size segment versus the larger offerings of today. Lower that by an inch or two and I’d love to have that as a daily (well if the EX30 comes out first might choose that as I like that aesthetic more).

With EX30 being delayed in the U.S. until it can handle production in Ghent for our market, the EV3 might get here first.

Craig, this will come to the US via the Monterrey Mexico plant. A GT model will power both wheels with the most power. Less expensive models will be GT Line and Base.

why everyone says 30k (euro or usd) when this car in Korea costs around 37.000€ ? There is a video with this car in Korea with a label on it, with the price in KRW. It says 5.020.000 KRW. Anyway, i hope it will come to europe with a starting price at 30k, if so, there is a possibility for this one, to become an EV of the year. Enough with those overprices EV's out there. Batterie's price dropped, but EV's prices keeps standing at the top.

LFP battery sucks in terms of its density, performance, charging speed and weight as well. Did you ever see any expensive ev adopted LFP battery? NCM battery is definitely more advanced technology if you ever study battery technology.

  • Ай бұрын

@@Gimlet6051 High energy density means better acceleration performance. However, the LFP battery is superior to the NMC battery in energy storage. In simple terms, NMC batteries have good performance but poor battery life, and LFP batteries have poor performance but good battery life. NMC batteries can achieve 1000 - 2000 charge-discharge cycles, while LFP batteries typically deliver 3,000 cycles or more. The higher cycle life means that LFP batteries will last longer, leading to reduced operational costs over the battery's lifespan.

USA, EU, and Japanese automakers have been sleeping for far too long. Hard to believe Kia is more desireable now. But here we are. I actually really like the style of the old Leaf. Too bad they never made one with decent range. Now, who will bring an ev van to market? Vans are the most practical vehicle, and nobody is making them.
