Thank you so much...I had given up and was researching replacement ligatures when I came across your information and it works!

The most useful information on the internet. Thank you. I've been using a '65 Florida No USA link for several years now. I've been thinking it's the pickiest thing with reeds, when you get a good one, it's magic, but it's been so frustrating going through boxes of reeds. I started focusing on the ligature recently, and noticed no matter how hard I tightened it and the placement of it, I could wiggle the reed left to right. I figured that can't be good, even when it looks straight, as I'm blowing it's not really secure. I started thinking the screw must be stripped. I didn't really want to use a non vintage ligature with it either, but I was ready to start blindly ordering things, when I stumbled on your video. Did exactly as you said, tightened it and then slid down and problem solved. Even the bad reeds are average sounding. The average ones are decent. The magic ones are even more consistent. I spent so much time always making sure the reed was straight, I don't think I even realized it was becoming a nervous tick, something preventative that I would constantly do. I bet other musicians on the band stand were always wondering, what's wrong with this cat, every time someone else is blowing, this MFer is messing around with his reed. I'm not sure how this knowledge hasn't been passed down......it all makes sense now.....how often do you see a vintage link and the sides have "scratches" on it. All the time.

thanks man. I've always loved talking to the older cats about the horn and the music. Picking up little pieces here and there. And if you're living right you keep learning those little bits. You pick up thing from the young cats too if you're listening. the journey not the destination, as they say. Cheers man.

Thanks for this video. I had given up on the stock Link lig because the plate didn't fit flat on the reed. I had switched to the Selmer. I'll give the stock link a try using your technique. Glad I found this channel.

I meant to comment on this vid the last time I watched it? I'd never been able to get a Link Lig to sit perfectly flat on the reed stock and so I switched to a Selmer lig, many years ago? Frankly I didn't buy into your demo? But after I watched this vid I went back to my Link lig and tried the technique you demonstrated and low and behold it worked really well. So I'm back using the Link lig, for now anyways. Thx fer sharin'

Dang, I always wondered how people got those lined up! I personally think one of reasons the otto link pieces have been so popular is for that ligature. They make the horn respond different! I’ll never quite understand the people who say ligatures don’t make a difference...I’ve been playing for about 17 years and have tried many and while they don’t affect the sound to a noticeable extent they control how expressive you can play, dynamics, flexibility, sympathetic vibrations in your oral cavity (teeth), intonation and reed strength etc.. Anyway love the channel! Check out Echo Brass ligatures - they are a reissue of the old Brillhart 3 band ligatures but they make a size for every model now. I use to own an original alto brilhart ligature years ago and these are the exact same and they play amazing on a metal tenor piece!

You should look at the new Dickerson Resonator Ligature on Reverb & ebay - a ligature and a resonator

When you pull the lig back at 3:44, wouldn't the plate draw the reed backwards away from the m/p tip? The plate has four dimples that help grip the reed. Guess it's a matter of practicing the technique such that only the lig moves.

if they fit I'd imagine they work pretty well. I've never owned one of those. They were pretty pricey if I remember correctly.

Hi! Could you please tell me where I can get a good quality ligature for tenor a metal mouthpiece?

start with researching what ligatures fit the mouthpiece you have. KZread, Google images, and so forth. Then search online and see if you can order that style ligature. If you have access to a music store or instrument shop you could maybe try some different options. good luck with the search!

Is there an alternative to this ligature? It is shit. Plate ligatures are the worst. I just got this mouthpiece and can't play it. Ligature won't stay on, or stay tight enough. thanks

see my most recent video - Selmer 404 ligature fits on these. I have a few videos about it. The Rico 'H' ligature should fit. Ishimori ligatures should fit but are very expensive. Remember - the old cats played those mouthpieces with those ligatures and made some of the greatest musical statements known to mankind.
