Gardiner and the Monteverdi and Baroque soloists! Just stunning. To think Handel was only 22 when he wrote this. It,s amazing to sing it. A new revelation in every section. Such attack, accuracy and vigour here. Thank you all.

I have loved Handel’s Dixit Dominus since first hearing it in Winchester Cathedral in 1986, and have heard many different performances of it since then, but not ever anything like this! The intensity, sheer beauty and perfection are almost beyond belief. Sir John Eliot Gardiner, orchestra, soloists, choir - one cannot begin to imagine the work that must have gone into making this come to life in such a perfect and beautiful form. Thank you with all my heart.

No, I have not heard that performance. You can not not appreciate any performance which is conducted by JEG's baton. His performances are consistently of the highest standard, and that is what he expects of each singer and instrumentalist. The whole experience is one of delight to the spirit.

It's not only the beauty of the music and the enthutiastic rendering by Maestro Gardiner and his Monteverdi choir, but unlike too many groups these days, they are a pleasure to look at, clean, refined, poised, as in: "civilized'. What a joy to the eye and ear!

This work is Amazing. I can't imagine myself at 21 composing such a masterpiece. Handel was a genius from a young age. Very admirable, since his family was upper class and they did not want him to be a musician, but a lawyer... but he was born to be a musician, he traveled through Europe studying different musical styles, many times he helped the poor through his concerts and died with honors. Now we can all enjoy these wonderful works. Thanks Handel 🙌🏻

Could Heaven be any better than this?! No wonder Beethoven said that Handel was the father of us all! This must be right at the acme of Western Civilization. No other civ has come close to this, and the West itself seems now spent. What a marvelous, fabulous performance of this amazing opus! Mr. Gardiner seemed to have such an encouraging and collegial attitude. One that says 'we are all in this together,' rather than acting as if he wrote the music and is the master and is prying it out of the singers and musicians. This is such a treasure. Altissime grazie to all the performers in this momentous accomplishment.

I loved this piece from the first time I heard it as a young man, and insisted on conducting it with the Keele Bach Choir. This interpretation captures brilliantly the youthful exuberance and vitality of Handel's writing> Gardner brings much innovation to a performance which is both virtuosic and utterly committed. We are lucky indeed to have this performance for posterity.

When I first heard this work (and luckily it was this performance), I was stunned at its intensity, drama, and emotional range- it is a perfect example of the Baroque style at its most spectacular. I can never understand those who think Baroque music is just mathematical and mechanical. It must be thrilling (and hair-raising) to conduct, you are so fortunate!

Yes! I feel the same way about the finale! Particularly the way Handel sustains and spins out the fugue to what feels like an unprecedented length is thrilling. Even the subject of the fugue gets your blood racing as its rhythm on those first repeated notes accelerates, as though creating then concentrating the energy to move forward. And ending firmly in the minor enhances the drama of the entire work. You sense he was showing off his skills in a feat of virtuosity. A master at twenty-one! And it already "sounds like Handel".
