I'm hamster-sitting two extra hams at the moment and keeping three hamsters is so much work! Between spot-cleaning, daily handling/playtime and other things like cleaning water bottles and bowls, it's a lot of work. I have so much respect for people who are able to rescue and care for multiple little creatures, and give them the love they deserve. (Also, Merlin is a cutie)

I work at a certain pet store w/ an "s" in the middle of its name and I want to thank you for how much your videos have helped me educate customers and get more of them providing proper hamster care. Obv there's still plenty of customers who simply don't care, but thanks to your videos I've been able to help the ones that actually do, listening to me go on for 45 minutes and taking pictures of the California Hamster Association url when I show the website to them for more info, and texting their roommates or spouses to go buy the supplies for a bin cage so they can make it as soon as they get home. I had a woman I sold a Syrian to the other day come back and show me pictures of the huge, decked out Niteangel enclosure that looked fantastic which she bought after I recommended it to her and she thanked me b/c she would've put it in one of those Tiny Tales cages if I hadn't educated her. I know you've been going through a lot lately and prob get lots of comments like this but I wanted to know your videos and all you have a massive impact beyond the individual animals you rescue and ppl who watch your videos. I'm very glad I found your channel and hope you'll be able to continue doing what you do for as long as you can

Merlin is cute! Appears the girl was doing the best she could within her means as the aquarium did look clean. I would like to see the bottom under the bedding though. While a ten gallon aquarium isn't large enough, or the wheel, not to mention too much plastic without any chew toys, and the stupid ball, they did find another home, a better home for him. Please, if you can't afford a pet and care for it properly, don't buy a pet...

We love Merlin! Watching your videos has sparked something in my heart - I wonder if I could start rescuing hamsters? I have had 8 winter white dwarf hamsters so far, and I am very passionate about providing the best possible care for them. It breaks my heart to see so many "free hamster" ads online (and everything in photos is wrong, everything!), especially since in my current country (Czech Republic) the standards of care are appalling... People don't mean to torture these little pets, but pet shops sell crap and people think "small animal, small needs" - even though all the information is one online search away!

It's a great thing to aim for, but where I live most rescues suggest helping another rescue first, so you don't get in over your head. There's a lot more bureaucracy involved than one might think and the hardest part is learning to say 'no'. Building a network with other activists can also be vital. Many rescues end as animal hoarder cases, as things can spiral out of control easily. I wish you all the luck with your endeavours however! We need more honest and true rescues, particularly for small pets. Most rescues focus on the animals that bring in the big donations: cats, dogs, horses; the less legs, eyes, ears the better, of course.

Hi Munchie! Can you possibly do a video on how you clean your plastic and wood cage items before you put them in a new hansters habitat? Our old hammy passed away and it has been a few months so we are ready to adopt again, but I want to make sure I am cleaning things properly before we do this! Thanks in advance!

Can you do a video on how much fresh fruit/veggies that hamsters and gerbils should have and show the amount because I am always scared to give too much? Also can you do a cage review on the Petsmart Full Cheeks Hamster Habitat/ "townhome" kit or as Petco calls it the Ferplast starter kit? I don't think you have reviewed that one and I like your cage reviews even though I would never buy any of those full cheeks or krittertrail cages. It's good to get the word out there about cages! Thanks!

I’ve heard a lot less about parents getting young kids small mammals but I’ve heard and seen a lot more parents getting kittens and puppies for their young kids… I’ve heard so many horror stories of those poor animals being abused and/or ending up de*d due to parents not helping… Someone I know in a different city let their kid hit the kitten and eventually it was accidentally killed by the child… It’s tragic and depressing to say the least…

My little brother for some reason snuck one of the feral kittens from the cat who lived outside into a box and stuck her in the dresser in our bedroom when we were kids... Luckily I heard her meowing and found her before anything too bad happened. We gave her a bath and let her warm up and dry off in the house before putting her back with her mama. My brother was in huge trouble for that... I can't imagine a parent not caring about their kid hurting an animal, especially a baby animal.

You don't know how many times I hear from working in the past at a petstore, how much the owner "Wished" they'd done research. Mainly it was people talking about their breed of dogs....but the amount of people that said that was shocking. It's common sense to prep yourself for an exam, prep yourself for collage, school, new job, etc but a pet? Naw i guess people don't consider it. X___X

60 friggin' dollars for this?! They gave you a wonderful, incredibly-sweet hammy, a little aquarium (that might cost you about what? 20 bucks new?) And literal garbage. They were really trying to make a profit on this. Unbelievable.

Depending on the state you live in, 60 is a high average here for a rehoming fee with items. Tank is $15 new, lid is $10, the hide/water/bowl is $15, wheel is $12 on amazon (couldn't find it on petsmarts website). Total without tax, minus not knowing which bedding they paid for = 52 + hamster which should be last time i was in, around $25 now equals = 77. So let's assume the bedding was from walmart which is $12 for smallest bag. Now it equals $89 before tax. Assuming tax in our state, now it that's around $98 dollars total. And I did forget the food cost, but we did not receive a bag of their food. But the total does add up quickly. Hopefully you can now see this is actually a decent deal. Prices in general are still high, but are coming back down. Oh and i almost forgot about the exercise ball...
