Really? i completely disagree. He's far to short at 5ft 8, Halston was 6ft 2. Ewan, although a great actor, never captured Halston's elegance as a man. Plus he did generic "gay" voice, which was a bit insulting. Ryan Murphy is a hack writer that relies on salaciousness to sell his projects I.M.O.

@@neilnriley I kinda see what you mean. I watched interviews with Halston after watching the series and I realized that his voice wasn’t really as effeminate as it seemed in the show. And you have a point about Ryan Murphy, although I still find his work very entertaining. 😂

  • @snarkotron1035

Cloth cut on the bias so it drapes, when cloth drapes it contours to the woman's natural form. It's a straightforward and logical style. Show the female form without structuring it needlessly. A woman can just be a woman underneath a garment without structuring her body into something unnatural just so she can be clothed. It flatters all forms.

Halston was a master his work is timeless & Pat Cleveland is a designers best friend no could give life to a garment like Pat could she was a runway assassin. Im was truly touched by this. My mom was a huge fan of Halston & I counted 8 pieces from this segment that I have that belonged to my her.The most outstanding of those being the gold beaded halter gown, the white one shoulder fitted fully rouched gown & The ivory cape with black trousers. My mom loved him so much that when she passed away I buried her in her favorite white Halston cashmere twinset dress cardigan with her Peretti bone cuff & earrings just as she would've wanted lord I miss her so much!

Great examples of one of Halston's later collections. Many people forget that he successfully designed full collections for the first half of the 1980s. Halston's easy elegance was overshadowed by this decade's excesses, but Halston was definitely an important part of the 80s fashion scene.

Halston was a pioneer in fashion and in business. His aesthetic elevated American ready to wear. He was the first designer to not put his name on his fragrance bottle and let the bottle identify the fragrance, thanks to Elsa Peretti's design genius. Although Halston was eviscerated in the fashion press for doing a venture with JC Penney, within the next three years all the major designers were doing lower priced lines to widen their market. As Halston told me, "Why should I let all the companies that knock off my designs make all the money - I'll knock myself off." He was very savvy with his customers and press long before social media. He understood the allure of celebrity and the importance of supporting artists such as Martha Graham. Halston defined an era in our popular culture. Look at fashion during that time, it was populated by individuals who started and owned their own companies. Halston was acquired by a public company. He didn't fully understand the price we would end up paying. He was early in doing that too. Now the fashion business is dominated by a few global enterprises. Like the movie business, which went from independents in the 60s, 70s and 80s to major studios, the fashion business lost its edge and distinction as large financial companies took it over. Halston was a person of excess. But that's far from the whole story. He manifest a certain time in our popular culture and was a casualty of it. There is a much richer story to be told.

Just watched the Halston documentary on Amazon Prime. It was great and a tribute to a designer that knew the meaning of taste. He was an icon. He was also one of the few designers of his time that promoted diversity and had black models modeling his designs on the runways. Check out the very young Iman in the documentary. Also loved his Halston fragrance which was a very feminine scent in a wonderful and simple bottle design.

Margaret's beauty is very striking ... timeless. I've been doing research on her, trying to find out anything I can, but there's practically nothing about her personal life...is she even still alive?

Yes but it's important to remember that the original fabric was commissioned by the iconic Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake. Halston didn't technically create it, but did use it to its best on the runway.

(sigh) " From ' back in the day ' when MOST people, actually, cared about how They looked. Nowadays, virtually ' anything goes ' no matter what your gender. Although not Everyone could afford Halston or other high fashion designer wear, department and specialty stores were stocked with fashionable knockoffs that reflected tasteful dress. Sadly, with the dawning of Generation X, overall American society and workforce has since turned into ' The People of Walmart ' . "

It’s very sad to say, that the recent mini-series was extremely factual. Do people really want to see anything even for a minimum of five hours with a totally unsympathetic leading character? No matter how much money it cost to produce or how well it’s acted. Perhaps that is the sadist thing of all! 😂

I find it interesting that some of these models are barely pretty compared to the 90s set.
