Haloform Reaction Mechanism With Methyl Ketones - Iodoform Test
This organic chemistry tutorial video provides the haloform reaction mechanism between a methyl ketone, Iodide, and the hydroxide ion. This video discusses the iodoform test of methyl ketones and some alcohols to produce iodoform - a solid yellow precipitate. This video discusses the alpha halogenation reaction mechanism of methyl ketones as well as the enolate ion intermediate that forms in the process.

Thanks man. You have cleared the concept which i hadnt understood for many months
I have a test in two days and did not understand so I tried looking this up in my book and for some apparent reason I FOR THE LIFE OF ME COULD NOT FIND IT. Thank God for this video :-) VERY EASY UNDERSTAND
Thank you so much. I love your videos. Keep teaching us, please.
Thank you very much brother!! Your hardwork really helps me a lot to understand!! Thanks again ^_^
Thank you very much. You have a very good understanding of reaction mechanism.

brother u are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is 100 ,thanks very much
Thank you once again.
Thanks man, You're a life saver.
Thank you thank you that was really helpful❤️❤️
Are compounds that don't undergo the haloform reaction unreacted or have they been iodinated?
You have saved my life....
Thank you so much
why do only methyl ketone undergo haloform reaction?please
What if the R group has any H in alpha?
Thanks❤
In the last explanation the H Leaving should leave - ve charge which makes bond with oxygen but in O-I bond cleavage the oxygen atom is more electronegative ,so it should get the lone pair ,shouldn't it???

Nice doubt.

Nope because the carbon attain negative charge so it create a double bond between c and o then already oxygen have 10 electrons so it gave a pair of electrons to iodine
thank you sm!
Why does OH act like a base the Pka is 15 and for methyl keton is around 20
thank you from LAU jbeil lebanon
Thanks:)
You the best
can ether too gives +ve ido form test???
@TheLilLebs
4 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing that it could, depending on the type of ether molecule you have. i.e. the ether must have a methyl group on at least one side. Someone correct if wrong please
I have a doubt, Ethanol has two alpha hydrogens yet it shows positive for haloform test? Could you please clarify.

It is converted into methanoic acid ion and chi3.

positive means showing yellow colour , when yellow colour show , when it forms iodoform (CHI3) if 2 alpha hydroxy presents then it will not form CHI3 .
Will ethyl ketones and other ketones also give positive results for the test?

if the ketone group is present on the second carbon of the chain it show positive for the test

It should have methyl group attched at alpha position of carbonyl carbon to give positive test
Is amide undergo haloform reaction?
I fucking love you dude
sir can u please make vedieos on youngs modulus bulk modulus shear modulus with formulla explnation
