Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn busts the balls of a rude autograph seeker!

Спорт

An unruly autograph seeker cuts in front of a long line and tells Tony he "Owes" him an autograph! Tony was signing in the El Cajon Ford showroom and sets the rude guy straight! And rightly so! This is vintage Tony Gwynn, who just recently ended radical chemotherapy and back problem issues, respond to this guy just like his old self!

From when he was on the Hornets, his first baseball team to watching him inducted into Cooperstown. When I was younger I was a grill cook at the stadium of a minor league team that became affiliated with the Padres that year. So the Padres came to town for a scrimmage. After the the game I was wheeling my things down to the commissary and there sat Tony Gwynn on a folding chair in the hallway. I decided to introduce myself and he was so nice. We ended up talking baseball for what seemed like forever when in reality it was probably only 10 to 15 minutes. I'll never forget that day and how normal and down to earth he was.

Tony used to come into a Subway on the semi regular I worked at when I was in college that was close to The Murph. He was always very polite and kind. Sometimes people would ask for autographs as he was eating, sometimes when he was there with other people. He would politely explain that he would sign when he was done eating but he was with his wife etc. Once a guy kept bothering him and I asked the guy to leave the store. After he was done Tony thanked me, wrote a quick note to the owner stating that I helped him and his wife out and took a picture with me on one of those disposal cameras the owner kept in the store. He was a class act all the way.

I absolutely Love it! "If I don't want to sign it, I ain't gonna!" I met/worked with Tony Gwynn at an event during the 2009 MLB All Star Game. I worked for a company that put on an event for the game. We were lucky enough to bring him in among other HOFers..... I met a lot of athletes and celebrities during my time at that job. He was easily one of my favorites. Incredibly nice, super accomodating to all of his fans and autograph seekers. After the event he approached me and asked if I wanted anything signed (which he did not have to, he fulfilled his obligation). I asked for a picture with him. I was lucky enough to get that picture with him and Bruce Sutter, who was the other MLB HOFer at that particular event. Both guys were awesome to work with!!! I did end up getting a signed ball from both BTW.

Tony was a class act. I sent three cards/letters for him to autograph over three different years in the mid-90's. This was the height of his career and popularity and he still signed them and sent them back. I sent out a lot of cards in those days, and I got back very few of them. I have tried to teach my kids about sending away cards to today's players, and we have yet to receive one in two years of sending. Watching him play was something else, man. I was a kid, and every year it was Tony Gwynn leading the league in hits, or batting average...or at least close to the top. And nobody, not a soul, ever had anything bad to say about him. At least that I ever heard. He was a true legend.

This is what so many people don't get a chance to see, someone busting the chops of a player, making demands and the player trying to handle it professionally, but the fan just not backing up. This is the reason many celebs don't sign stuff. But, I have to say, Tony is a class act. He always had a soft spot for the kids and he always signed and talked to people with a smile.

He was always humble, and always a class act n genuine nice guy.. If u think about it, theres not alot of athletes who get that kind of respect.. Even if he was playing against ur home team, the announcers and everyone else would still praise the guy.. R.I.P
