When I was a young child Dad took me to Forbes Field just so I could see Roberto Clemente play. This was probably during the 1961 or 1962 season. Roberto was my childhood hero. I modeled my hitting and fielding after Roberto. If you ever come to Pittsburgh, you ought to visit the Roberto Clemente Museum. It is full of memories donated by his family. He was my hero then and at over seventy years old now he is still my hero.

We will never see his like again. He came from Puerto Rican. But he also came from Pittsburgh. He was apart of our lives for 18 years and we still remember.

My daughters are 22 and 17, and since they were little girls both are very aware of who Roberto Clemente was and what he represents for us in Puerto Rico, a figure like no other, a symbol of humanity, decency and love for mankind irrespectively of race, ethnics, social class, etc. His legacy is unique, and we are proud to 'share him' with our LatinAmerican brothers and sisters, with the people of Pittsburgh and from other parts of the world who feel like Roberto belongs to them too. That's the kind of human being he was and that's the effect he still has in us all. And besides all that, what a 1-derful ballplayer !!! Blessings from San Juan !!!

Manny Sanguillen came to Puerto Rico and helped in the recovery mission with the police and civilian divers that tried to recover Clemente's body and the other 4 crew members. When asked why he was doing this (diving in the cold Atlantic ocean waters) he said, " I want to recover my friend's body!"

To all these young Latinos that aren’t aware of how the Latino Communities have and continue to come together to help ourselves. Learn your history: - Roberto Clemente, a PuertoRican died on 12/31/2972 bringing aide to Nicaragua - Who do you think is behind Press 9 for Spanish (and a job for a bilingual Latino on the other end) - or the 2020 U.S. Census forms to allocate funds for social services that are important to the Latino communities
