Half-Pi Shawl Knitting for Beginners {FREE pattern!}

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Knitting a half-pi shawl for beginners - everything you need to know to knit your own half-pi shawl.
Half-pi shawls have two basic rules to create them:
1. On increase rows, you double the stitch count.
2. Between increase rows, work twice the number of 'plain' rows as worked in the previous section.
These two rules can be fudged a little bit to accommodate stitch patterns or to work all the increase rows on right-side rows. Once you understand how it works, you'll be ready to knit your own half-pi shawl!

    Thank you as this showed up in my feed and I was looking for a mindless half circle shawl. 🙂

    Thank you for doing a demo in stockinette! I was trying to figure out what to do about the even row increases and adding that one extra row was my guess as well. I want to try it with a more invisible increase which I'm sure will make the texture a little funky, but know the rules makes this simpler.

    Hi, this tutorial is amazing, thank you. But is there a way to knit it just in knitting stitch? Guess I have to increase more often than working garter stitch.

    Maybe if you counted Garter ridges instead of rows between each increase section?

    Hi! I have this problem! When I try to use more than 1 needle (metal) to hold the stitches, needles slide out if I am not holding them! I don't know how my grandmother didn't have this issue! **Smile**

    Same! Metal needles are slick and will definitely slide around. You could try wood/bamboo needles instead. I think it's just lots of practice with holding the needles and moving the yarn so you don't have to let go of one of the needles. I had this same issue when I was learning to hold the yarn in my right hand - I would have to let go of the right needle to wrap the yarn and really had to practice NOT letting go of the needle as I wrapped the yarn.

    @@NerdyKnitting so I would want to make an extra wide scarf or try to make a hat and they would slide. I like metal. Wood has too much friction. My Grandmother used metal. I have thought about flipping large needles around temporarily (plastic on 1 end) to hold it in place. I find circular needles awkward. I knitted my first hat in 4 sections an stitched them together. **Smile**
