Have you ever knit a crescent shawl? Tell me about your experience!
Being a bigger gal i love the rounder shawls. I'm a new knitter so i feel I could try and tackle one of these. So many utubers do such intense garments. Nice to find some beginner friendly ideas. Thank you!

I agree - I prefer shawls with a long wingspan so I can wrap up in it. I can never figure out how to wear a triangle shawl without it looking like a giant bib! 🤣
These are great ideas. Your podcasts are very organized, short and full of info. Thank you🤩

You're welcome! I'm so glad you enjoy them.
2:55 was this clever lady me in my past life? i love maths and pi is a fascinating concept to explore especially all in yarn.... it's totally my style
I have a question, how can I change pattern that worsted yarn to finger weight? I just love your podcast. I learn so much each time I see your podcast. You are doing a great job

That is such a big jump in yarn weights I wouldn't recommend it. It would involve swatching and a lot of math to rewrite the pattern.
I have had some AAAHHHH!!! moments AND the Easy Half Circle Shawl seems interesting to me! A more "commercially friendly" style. I almost expect sleeves or arm wholes! HHHMMM!!! **Smile** I think I need a shawl-ed sweater/cape HHHMMM!!!
Crocheter, beginning knitter here! Thank you for your very informative videos. You will make a kknitter of me yet!!

I don’t trust myself enough to pay for a pattern that may be a flop So I’m looking for a free crescent shell pattern or just a big rectangle shawl.
Bloom by Chelsea Berkompas I want to make this. I am not sure about the construction because it says it is worked bottom-up.

Thanks for the recommendation! Maybe it starts by casting on all the stitches and decreasing to create the shape?

@@NerdyKnitting I found the answer. " Bloom is knit from the bottom lace edge upwards. The lace edge is knit first, in one piece, then is shaped into a crescent by utilizing simple short rows in garter stitch, working from the middle outwards. The whole shawl is knit in one piece with minimal ends to weave in and no stitches to pick up.

I've knit a shawl like that before - very fun way to knit that shape!

@@NerdyKnitting I'll see. Not sure I'm gonna like casting on 311 stitches for it. 🤣🤣🤣

😄 That's probably why top down shawls that start with just a few stitches are so popular! 😆
I find the crescent shawl tends to have a bump at the middle neck. I have tried YOs along the edge and starting with a needle several sizes smaller and working up to the needle size recommended to resolve the issue. Any other ideas?

That's a really common problem! Aggressive blocking of the finished item can reduce the bump (or stretch it out so it's less noticeable). Another thing to try (and it really depends on the stitch pattern in the shawl) is to cast on more stitches right away. I have a feeling that when it's just a few stitches and it takes a few rows to get the shape established, that little bit of a bump could be eliminated by simply starting with a larger section right at the beginning (but I don't really know - I haven't tested this theory!).
I am a new knitter. I've done lots of small projects and am making a shawl for the first time. I wanted to do the lion brand one you featured but was very confused with the beginning. I got the 9 rows of knit then it wanted me to turn and pick up stitches from the side of the nine rows. That confused me. Do you have a video that shows how to do that?
@NerdyKnitting

Yes - that's called a Garter Tab cast on. I have a video but if you just type it into the search bar on KZread it will probably show you lots of video tutorials!
Are there no free Crescent shawl patterns or any shawl patterns that are free?

There are lots of free shawls online- you could search Ravelry and check the box for free patterns.
