Holy shit this was really good. People often forget that Gordon's not some action hero, he's a physicist in a hazard suit surviving through almost impossible odds. The subtle way he started walking quicker towards the doors after hopping over the first exposed wiring, the jump scare in the vents, hell even the very brief one-liner of his name are all super in-character. Excellent job!

I love how human he is. He was just some scientist a moment before, now he is in literally hell where his friends are getting killed one by one by creatures he has no idea existed before and horrors one cannot imagine
Very nice! I like how bulky the suit looks and how that's reflected in Gordon's movement. It's realistic. The slender skin-tightness of how the HEV is usually portrayed really doesn't lend itself well to the reality of armor.

After watching this animation, in this style, i could totally imagine a fully fledged movie, where you hear Gordons thoughts in most of the settings, when he is not interacting with other allies.

Like in Sherlock Holmes Gordon calculates everything in milliseconds foreseeing all the consequences of every action based on deep knowledge in physics and then turns into a cold killing machine eliminating every threat. He is completely silent because he is doing it all the time in his mind and emotional relations enfeeble his intellectual potential.
@icarus313

Freeman's Mind pretty much fits that description. Not a movie, of course, just a machinima. But probably the next best thing...assuming you don't mind the narrative of Gordon's mind being more of a dark action/comedy rather than a tense thriller, as was portrayed here. I'd love to see an actual Half-Life feature film, but I'd also be nervous as hell that it would turn out to be shit! 😅
This is really fantastic, Gordon feels so much more human. And also from the third person knowing what is coming but not being able to do anything makes the jump scares worse 😂

Wow, thank you!
I only recently went through the HL games for the first time (finished Episode 2, 2 nights ago now). I found the longer I inhabited the HEV suit, the more and more amazed I became at the world I found myself in. As a lifelong diehard Halo fan, I can say that Half-Life is now easily tied for my favorite sci-fi universe. I've never played a game quite like HL1 in such that it let me PERFECTLY put myself in Gordon's shoes - or, like I said earlier - inhabit the HEV suit. I was Gordon, and Gordon was me, there was no distinction. I'm really not sure how to round this one out, but for as little time as I've spent with this 26 year old franchise - I love Half-Life and you're an absolute legend for allowing us to re-experience Gordon's journey in such a cool way. I absolutely can't wait to see this finished. Keep up the amazing work my friend! 🔥🧡

3:25 Freeman Chronicles reference
please, never stop until the end of HL1 at the very least. it's clear you have a passion with every episode of this retelling and it shows in how you portray gordon as a mostly silent protagonist. only one line from this scared, scarred scientist trying to survive. and it's to a random co-worker we can bet he's never met until this moment forced them to cross paths in this hellish moment of Half Life history no thanks to how huge Black Mesa is. it's not even cheesy, it's simply stating the facts, as if using the question the guard asks him about his name, to reassure himself he's still Gordon Freeman. we all know how the story ends. but Gordon isn't *the one Free Man* yet. and it shows in the voicework.

The only criticism I have, is the voice acting for the gaurd, apart from that, this shit is flawless, great job man
Seriously underrated work dude! Movement is still a bit stiff, but It's actually pretty good for a one-man project (and in the case of Gordon, it can be explained by the HEV Suit making movement a bit harder). One gripe I have is the voice acting, I understand you're alone on this, but maybe try and find some more people for the next episodes? I'm sure at least someone would be kind enough to volunteer. All in all, great work on the episode, can't wait to see how you interpret the rest -λ-

He's a good animator, but he completely misunderstands the half-life universe. I would show it in a diametrically opposite way, in principle, I will do so. By the way, the costume should not restrict movement at all, if this were really the case, then Gordon would have been killed long ago. However, it's still interesting to look at it)
@stellarbastard98
6 ай бұрын
@@SoulFreeman3650 *"...he completely misunderstands the Half-Life universe..."* In some instances, I agree, but the series, mainly Half-Life 1, doesn't really have much to go off-of, leaving most things up to how the player (or in this case, the animator) interprets them. Of course, if you have a different interpretation, I ain't taking it away, I'm just saying it doesn't necessarily need to match up with the others. *"...the costume shouldn't restrict movement..."* Now, this is really nitpicky, but in the Hazard Course, Gina tells you, and I quote "Moving around in your H.E.V suit may be slightly disorenting at first". Let's think about it. The suit is mostly metal, which I assume is lined with rubber or plastic on the inside, I don't think it would be the easiest to move around in. Now, sure this is jumping to conclusions, but, again, HL1 leaves a lot to be desired in terms of what we know.
@SoulFreeman3650
6 ай бұрын
@@stellarbastard98 At the same time, she says exactly that at the beginning your movements will be constrained, besides, I found a muscle booster in the game files , and so on. The fact that moving around in a suit for the first time will not be awkward does not mean that it will be permanent. You just have to get used to it.
@SoulFreeman3650
6 ай бұрын
@@stellarbastard98 Yes, I also confirm that the author understands the universe only partially, but I would just change a lot, down to the atmosphere, queries, and even the anatomy of mutants. My first change would be zombies, because in half life they are practically harmless, and I would make them a real threat, no less dangerous than headcrabs.
@SoulFreeman3650
6 ай бұрын
@@stellarbastard98 In fact, I wouldn't rely solely on the game. The Black Mesa disaster is a terrible event, very, very frightening. Contrary to the canon, I would try to add additional creatures, even the same Gonome. To limit ourselves to a modest selection of half-life mutants means, in fact, to show the same thing in every episode. It can get boring, and I'm worried that it might happen. We need an improvisation that will not strongly contradict half-life and will fit perfectly into the plot.
