*Hi, DeSinc here!*
The fact that Gordon kinda saunters around and presses his luck by exploring every nook and cranny along his route really captures an almost nostalgic sense of gamer curiosity that I had when playing this back in the day. I love the detail of Gordon noticing all the little features that we all remember.

It makes sense, he was legitimately delayed due to service malfunctions, he probably knows he will be the guy in chernobyl if anything goes wrong. Therefore, the more time spent dicking around increases the chances that something critical to the experiment breaks and it's delayed long enough for Gordon to slip out of being the crystal & button pusher.

This is incredible. I don't think anybody has presented Black Mesa in such a cinematic manner before. The framing, the shots, the usage of depth of field to accentuate the mood. Loved the entire thing but especially: - Gordon squinting when the sunlight hits his eyes at 1:13 - Him scratching his beard at 2:27 - The introduction to Gordon proper; the framing of the text and half his face is very cool - 2:45 - The brief moment of "something's not right" as Gordon stares at the passing G-man at 3:55 - The hilarious 1:1 recreation of the "test chamberrr" line at 10:04 with the scientist's mouth synced up right up to the end lmao - All the different variations of scientist faces and hair - That downward glance by Gordon as he starts to suspect the experiment may be riskier than originally thought (12:03) - That G-man appearance at 15:14 gave me CHILLS! What a perfect edit that was Moreso, Gordon's mannerisms as he rides the tram and walks slowly to the Test Chamber really reinforces the fact that it's just another day of work for him - he's disinterested, bored but some things do manage to perk him up - the Guard's comment about the ponytail, when he suits up, and especially when he sees the girl at 1:23 - that little hint of a relationship is a nice touch. That entire resonance cascade sequence was great. I appreciated how you made Gordon drop onto his knees. The guy really carried the guilt of dooming the planet throughout the series, despite him not saying a single word. His reactions on getting teleported were on-point too (I just wished you'd included the energy beam shooting off into the control room - hearing the "It's not shutting DOWN!! OH NOOOO!" is one of my favourite parts of the game). Also Barney has no right looking like such a sexy beast 0:33

@@Animux.Studios Hi, it turned out quite a bit cinematic, especially the skeleton animation of the models looks better than others that turn out to be more clumsy and almost, but in the first episode there are flaws - Gordon's hairstyle looks like a mole, in hl alyx it looked fine, you could not change; the music in the black mesa inbound chapter goes to the original Prospero01; it was not shown when Gordon puts on a suit, the launch of the suit interface, well, that's my opinion; when the cascade resonance begins, scientists where their death was not shown at the top, that is, to make it more spectacular, although it will be 18+, I have everything or I didn't notice anything, and the second episode what will be in it?

Anyways Grodon Freeman
NOO, COME ON, MAN! You can't end it there! Damn, and my heart was pumping, too! Let me tell you something, as the biggest Gordon Freeman simp there is, seeing a full length animation with the official model brings me insurmountable joy. His mannerisms and facial expressions in the tram were such a pleasure to watch. They seemed so natural; excellent animation indeed. I see your Gordon is very nonchalant and serious. I can respect that, even if it's not the way I personally visualise him. It will come in handy with his prodigious combat skills once he needs to face hell. I do like that from early on (4:06) Gordon is noticing that some things are off. That, coupled with the other incidents where people mention things malfunctioning, by the way he warily observes you can tell he's thinking things are off. When he sees Gman the second time, I imagine he must've been weirded out. He was going in the opposite direction as him in the tram after all, so how could he have gotten there first? Also, Gordon's a real psychopath for not helping the scientist in need. He needed some toilet paper, man! Now he's going to die in the most humiliating way possible. I'm kidding, of course. The resonance cascade scene was nuts. I love that brief glimpse of Gman and how in the split second Gordon looked away from the sample, everything went to shit and the moment he looks forward again, he's sent back from the explosion. The spectrometer alarm that Crowbar Collective uses is fucking amazing, so hearing it always gives me chills. I always thought Joel Nielsen absolutely outdid himself with that sound design. I fucking love that, even though we can't see his face, we finally see some sort of emotion from Gordon. Slumping to his knees, bringing his hands to his head, in complete disbelief of the situation and/or perhaps in attempts to drown out the noise that is an explicit reminder of what the Anomalous Materials team has just done. There's so much happening here, I love it. He must feel responsible for this disaster, even though it wasn't his fault at all. A lot of people believe that Gordon is at fault for the resonance cascade even though all he did was push the sample. I've always rejected this notion. Finally, I love that even in midst of this disaster, Gordon's first reaction to seeing the protozoan is to touch it. It's endearing and I'm pretty sure most people would do that too, lol. You did an excellent job with the atmosphere. Whilst it's true that some things could be improved upon, such as the walking or some of the lip sync animations, or minor spelling mistakes (2:58), I have nothing but praise for you :) I have always adored the atmosphere in your videos, you have an excellent way with it and I've always thought you excel with dark, horror-like ambiances because your use of lighting is always great for it, so now that the following chapters will be so dark, I can't wait to see what you'll do with them. I'm excited for the next video and so happy that this is out. This comment was long because it's my opinion that good effort is deserving of comments that have a bit of thought/effort put into them, highlighting what the person did right, but I understand some creators may not see it this way. If it's too tedious to read long comments, just let me know and I'll tone it down! In any case, I felt this video absolutely deserved a long comment, so yeah. Excellent job!

Just look at how it ended with JJ Abrams, from what I think, the main reason is that Gabe fears that the whole HL atmos and lore would change if any other movie production company or any director would shoot it. Trim the ride significantly - he could check his watch couple of times, raise eyebrow when he sees some unusual action. Maybe wink on the girl? Gordon is obviously a cool guy - but at the same time an expert. He could play Tetris on the train ride or something. And he doesn't need to be 100% silent 🙂 But! I really appreciate sticking to the original - and that's what author was after here, obviously. Also camera work, cut, directing are pretty dope. There are weaker places and also strong ones. So - congrats 👏

Search for "Ivan the space biker" to see Valve's first concept for the Half-Life protagonist. Be-ponytailed Grodon was somewhere between that and the 'Charlie Sheen in Arrival' we eventually got on the HL loading screens.
Probably what makes this aoustanding is the camera angles, usually what happends with this kind of works is that the angles get boring pretty fast and you lose interest really quickly, but here he tries his best to put a good shoot everytime to avoid this effect. Plus the visuals itself are already good, without those angles it wouldnt be the same. Amazing work honestly.
I love how everyone talks to Freeman and reply to themselves or eachother in his place, it's almost as if he's a voiceless protagonist in a game
We dont need a movie studio to make amazing adaptations of games, we just need highly skilled fans of a series, who are willing to provide the community with great animations/films. Hell, i would pay for a movie made by great fans to go watcg in the cinemas
This is an S-tier animation. The scenes are superb, and the choreography is very well made, there are also so many little details in this video, that it's easier to say what is not included in this video. The only two things that I think could be improved on are the walking animations and the personality of Gordon (he looks like a sociopath until the test chamber where he shows some actual emotions). Love how you've added effects such as Motion blur/depth of field. This is an incredibly piece of work and as a huge Halflife fan this is a dream come true cause we'll probably never see a half life movie or tv series in the near future and this is as close to a netflix tv series as it can get 😅
That was so cinematic and incredible, I loved it. Those moments where the camera blurs the background then refocuses were a great touch, I also loved the shot composition and choice of angles. The movement of the construction workers at 1:01 was really convincing, and the character motions overall were great. G-man was subtle and not overdone, which was perfect. You're really playing to the game's strengths in terms of storytelling with a mute protagonist and "showing not telling", especially with the dialogue. I found myself getting really immersed in the world of Black Mesa, even though I've played the game many times it felt like experiencing it for the first time. It just feels so much like a movie. And that SOUND DESIGN 16:01 was AMAZING, that whole sequence was really well constructed, I got chills when he sees Xen for the first time, then the shot at 16:39 does a great job at painting the Vortigaunts as this ominous alien threat... absolutely spectacular. You should be really proud of yourself for creating this video, I think you deserve WAY more views. You are definitely one of the better Half-Life animators here on KZread.

I'd say it was a design choice, the author has shown emotion on his character models before "The last Goodbye' but I don't think that experience was a good one for them. It looked a bit awkward in some parts. Their take on 'Lambda Man" basically crossed over into this though. The fact that everyone is cheerful while Gordon just gives them blank looks is both funny and awkward and I would have appreciated a bit more facial emotions especially during the microwave scene. I'd rather have a bit more "The last goodbye' with gordon then "Lambda Man' personally.

Out of all the Half Life cinematic's out there, yours is by far the best I've ever seen! Just everything, the expressions, the choice of music, the action of every character, it was perfect! This is amazing. Attention to detail is great. Love that you included the microwave part lol. Can’t wait for the next parts.
Absolutely beautiful, the animation and cinematography looks incredible. I can’t wait for more!
This animation is pure gold. Just a few errors I noticed. Gordons name at the credits (2:45) is spelled Grodon. Theoretical in Theoretical Physics is spelt wrong, but I don’t think anyone would care either way. Other than that, this is good. Cant wait to see episode 2.

One small detail I love is how Gordon looks so young. With a lot of fan art and the original box art and designs, Gordon looks as though he's in his late 30s, maybe even his 40s. You keep his basic design while making him look much more his age, which also helps to reinforce the idea of him being as athletic as he is. Great job.

This is truly amazing. This brought back so many memories of when I first played Half Life nearly 20 years ago. I'm lost for words at how breath taking the details are. Thank you for embarking on this project and sharing with us.
Oh my god, this is soooo good! Little details, believable movements, lighting and camera angles, this is just awesome man! I really hope u had a really nice day
8:17 Why Gordon moves in EVA like he had shit in his pants? Dude, animation is awesome, but i can't unseen that Freeman shitted his pants XD
Just watched it twice, once with the gf who is currently playing through the VR port of HL1. We loved this! Keep it up this was amazing!

Great work! Your efforts are clearly displayed here, glad to see real talent get recognition.
This brought back memories from 1998 and also the replay with Black Mesa. Amazing work on cinematics and direction 👌🏽 kudos to everyone at Animux
My only criticism is that Gordon barely has emotion, especially in scenes when people make jokes or greet him. Makes him look like a sociopath. Other than that, this is still really awesome and I eager for the later episodes! 👍

@@turaychu Help the guy on the toilet, hell no. Honestly it seemed like he almost smirked at the guys predicament but it was most likely just the camera angle. If the series continues I would like a bit more facial expressions on Gordan to give more direction on why he does the things he does like ruining 'you know who's' dinner. Did he do it on purpose, did he see a free meal in the microwave, was he just being a @ss hole. No idea, there is some sort of personality with Gordan presented to us but its pretty absent there and a few other scenes.

@@Animux.Studios my only real criticism is the walking cycle. It honestly looks like some people really need to take a shit but are just carrying on because they have a job to do and can't be interrupted for even a moment. I could accept it for the hev suit since it had been described as a bit discomforting to use until you adjust to it, but the other characters felt a bit.. disjointed? Not sure the term to use here so I'm going with that. Some other movements feel a little awkward too, but even then, the cinematography more than makes up for those other shortcomings. Even the walking issues- mostly. Still somewhat bothersome and clashing even with that fantastic cinematography and those gorgeous visuals. The worst offender in the walking cycle issue was toward the beginning, with those 2 guys walking at 10-15 frames per second. Nothing could have made up for that except making them have more frames
I am so glad I was recommended this. Amazing work! I hope your channel gets the views it deserves. I look forward to more videos from you
6:39 ..."Dr. Ankles.." Wut? Lmao
While they all walk like they're about to take a gigantic piss in the morning, this was pretty good. Great work.
this is SO incredibly good, and the fact that it's a one man project? that's crazy! some things i noticed that could make a difference: don't make the legs go too outwards on the walking animations, that way they'll look more natural. and another thing is make the lyp sync a liiiittle less exagerated. everything else is amazing, camera angles, shot change, etc. very good job

I feel like it fits Gordon once he has the HEV suit on, that thing was designed with protection over comfort/mobility in mind i mean have you seen how thick the groin area on the HEV suit is material wise? A lot of padding there in various forms and the only way a man could comfortably walk with that much in that area is a waddle like walk. You are right in that the walk cycle does seem a bit off for the rest but from a one man project that's a lesser thing given how good the rest of it is.
I know I subbed a while ago but I’m just now getting around to watching this with full attention. Damn, this rocks. I can tell just by the details and little variations In camera angles that a lot of love went into this. Even though I’m not nostalgically attached to this game series much at all (a few of my friends were) outside of references that have snuck into other media as nods, I like the setup here. Excited to see more.

This is awesome!! Brings back so many memories. The first time I played HL and did this first mission , I was blown away with what was happening. And to see it as a spectator instead.......very cool my man , thank you!!
This is far from perfect, but for what it is, it's EXTREMELY impressive. You don't have to look to tell it was made with genuine love and passion for the series. I think the animation that could use the most improvement is the walking, but a vast majority of it is actually quite good. Good work, can't wait to see what else you get to.

I don't even know where to begin. So that's where I'll begin. Everything is just so fucking good in this, everything from the Gordon model to post-processing to the animating, the camera work, I haven't seen something this good in years! I've never seen your content before but I can already tell you're a god-like animator, you're insane, dude. I cannot wait for more, if I had money to spare, you have no idea how much I'd throw at this. The only disappointment is that I haven't heard of you sooner, I'm speechless.
the camera angles, blocking and general cinematography is really well done, does a lot to give it a very real cinematic feel.
This is so impressive! It was cool seeing this after playing. I feel so sorry for Gordon. He seems depressed even before the incident - no telling what he has gone through beforehand. You hear the subtle remarks throughout and especially in the break room. I wanna give him a hug. I'll bet he had hard home life. Could add to the lore.
IT was that good I had to watch again and comment again! Will wait for you to bring more of Grodon Freemans story to life!

Just found this and had to watch it. It's awesome. I love how Gordan is constantly looking around, taking everything in, even on the ride in, something he's done how many times already. And while he's waiting on things he's pacing and moving around rather than being a statue. His expressions are subtle but good. As he's heading in, he looks like he just doesn't want to be there. We've all had those days. Look forward to more
Great job, brings back so many memories of playing this ground breaking game and all the subsequent fun I had with all of Half Life.
I like how the beginning almost gives off this vibe that it's just a normal day for Gordon, but something just feels off.
