The Half-Life series is a beautiful tale of “you’re tiny compared to the universe but you can still be the difference that matters”.
You used your antlions as cannon fodder? I treated them like my brothers we fought and bleed together. They were true heroes
16 years later I never realized that the stun baton can be used to charge the suit. I guess I just never paid attention.
There's two ways to play Half-life as a series:
Living in eastern europe is really chilling if you love hl2
"the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself"
Another human aspect, present throughout Half Life 2, is the irrational hope of overcoming the odds. Humanity was beaten by a vastly superior alien race in less than 7 hours. There is no way humans could defeat the Combine. And yet, some of us keep fighting. Keep organizing in underground groups and fighting against all odds for our freedom. Humans are probably the most annoying race the Combine ever had to deal with, because we just won`t give up. And that is beautiful.
It took me 16 years to realize that the orange circular port thing on wall mounted energy batteries are for the ends of stun batons
Yeah, sure, but have you ever thought of ENHANCING being human even further? Report to your nearest Nova Prospekt train to know more!
Leadhead's game video-essays make me proud to be a human
The Kleinercasts summarize this sentiment perfectly:
Half life 2 has got to to be one of the best works of art. Ever.
The more I play Half-Life 2, I find more and more missed details.
“...and the payoff is this - “
Leadhead: Gives examples of using ingenuity to defeat the Combine, explaining how special we are as a species due to our ingenuity
I just started playing half life 2 again yesterday and while going threw ravenholm I realize something, Gordon Freeman ( a man of science) and father Grigori (a man of religion) are both helping each other survive.
Sorry that I was late today guys... I've had an insane week, and I accidentally set the upload time wrong
"we get contiously beaten down and the pay off is this..."
My favorite thing about half life is just how interesting the combine are. Their goal isn't to destroy any race as much as assimilate them and exploit them. It reminds me a lot about what we do to ourselves, they're like the worst parts of humanity exemplified in something else that isn't human, the kind of lack of respect for nature, the greed and industrialism (also love the twisted logic and propaganda as well). it makes fighting against them feel more like fighting against an idea more than a shallow fight against an alien race. most of the time you're not even fighting aliens but soldiers who have become less than human. It just gives the game a real grit and sense of reality to it, it's really grim stuff, but like I said, there's a hint of humanity in the combine actually, it's some soul crushing shit, and fighting against it almost has a spiritual vibe to me, like I said just fighting an idea, it's hella interesting to me
