H1MIN: MARK31 TORPEDO DIRECTOR
Ғылым және технология
The U.S. Navy Mark 31 Torpedo Director was a simple mechanical device to quickly calculate a torpedo firing solution to target. It removed the complexity of trigonometric calculations of firing a torpedo on a moving target. This video shows how it was used on a PT boat during World War 2.

@@firefoxthunderbird5116 that's the sad reality of youtube, it's all about money, numbers, metrics, and performance, not skill and quality, because there is no set-in-stone measurement for that stuff.
I could read a dozen articles on how this worked and remain confused, but actually seeing the animation you created makes it so simple and understandable. Keep up the great work!
I was so impressed by the beautiful simplicity of the device that I didn't even notice how nice the water animation was until I read the comments.
Your production quality, damn that water looks good

I love this kind of mechanical things, when computer wasn't around people get around it by making ingenious design
i know other people said this but the water just looks too damn good!!
This is awesome. Really gives you a great sense of what is actually happening mechanically. Cool vidz ☀️😎☀️🇺🇸
Very well done historically and visually. I appreciate the succinct description of this tool.

Hats off for the water foam simulation

Damn... I would like this channel to be "Military History in an Hour"...
Damn, I assumed they were also using the white torp guide for torp lauching back in the days... The one displayed directly on water when they press 3, you know...
Ur channel is so interesting!!
I wish I had your graphics skills. Great channel
NEVER knew that they used that. Live and learn...
I always wondered how they had accurate torpedo salvos, thanks!
Nothing less than awesome.

Interresting!
Seems like you spend more time on the water,it looks fantastic
So who was the crewman that operated the sight? The boat captain, the torpedo mate, or someone else?
@redshift1976

It doesn't seem overly complicated. With a dozen crewmen typical for a PT boat, I would imagine multiple crew were trained at the function.
Quick question for those with the knowledge. How did they accurately estimate the target vessels speed??
That water looks so real😍
Who was the torpedo director on McHale's Navy? I hope it wasn't Ensign Parker!
Mustard and your video on the same day!
Cool to know that in WoW the thing that gives lead for torpedoes is historical.

You can use this boat in war thunder right off the bat if you're interested.
I aim torpedos using the white cone. So much easier nowadays with modern tech

You can't find range with the director, you need a rangefinder for that

👍😎🍺🍩🚀🚀
Damn, so they got close with a warship in a boat to drop torpedos and then retreat? even at night it sounds almost suicidal
Just use the white prediction line
It looks like a cgi boat on a actual lake
i wish i had one of these in war thunder.
Well...shit. I could've really used one of these the last time I played Silent Hunter 3.
