Hey man. Gotta use all of your resources. I’m not a mechanic, I just have tools, time, and a willingness to learn something new and save some money. Good luck with the project. It’s not that bad if you can stay organized.

GoPro on a head mount.

I'm about to tackle my heater core. In retrospect is it necessary to undo the ac lines as well or do you think they could remain connected and still change the heater core?

I’m pretty sure you can get the heater core out without most of this disassembly. If you take down the trim in the driver’s side footwell you can see the heater core. It almost looks like it will slide out. I can’t tell you for sure, but look for a video on a 4runner heater core. It may give you some good pointers.
