How’s the job going? I’d enjoy hearing an update. I’m in the process of getting my CDL and plan on getting into beverage distribution. Thanks

I’ve been with a company that delivers to a few chain restaurants for year next month. The work is pretty demanding but the pay is really good and I work 3 nights a week so I am able to have a fair amount of time to have a life although adjusting to an odd sleep schedule was a bit weird. I’m happy and it’s a lot less stress than running my business, probably more money too overall. Beverage is a lot of work because a lot of times you aren’t just delivering, you’re taking returns back, stocking shelves, merchandising, taking payments and you have a lot of stops. I make about double what the beverage guys here make. My wife works for a beer distributor doing payroll so she has seen the difference in pay. I don’t think it’s bad to start out, maybe even liquor instead of beer, less work for same money. I hear coke is a good place, but again about the same money. The good thing is you will learn more at any job than you do in school just in the first few months, so finding a company that will take on a new driver might be more of a goal than finding a dream job. I feel very lucky to have fallen in where I have for now. No regrets on the career change.

@@FPSTinter thanks for the reply. Yeah I’m good friends with someone who knows the owner of a local beverage distributor in town and that’s the main reason I’ll be starting out there. The only other thing in town that’s not OTR is log truck driving and I’ve heard that shit’s crazy. I have had past experience in delivery driving and sales so I kind of see an advantage to doing more than just driving. I enjoy the interaction with the customers and the potential marketing and sales that these types of positions can have. Glad you got a driving gig that pays well and sounds like a great schedule at three days a week. Happy trails and good luck to you.
