    You did a good job! I bought a 2009 Camry Hybrid in 2016 with same issue. Looked online and they still had a recall that you had to apply for. I got an email from Toyota about a week or two later and they gave me two dealers where I could take it and get a new dash for free. I would search for anyone with same issue, but I think it expired. Crazy that they had this problem in the first place.

    I just had the stereo replaced in my 2006 Toyota Solara and I got my car back with several cracks in the dash. I know it was not the installer's fault. The car is 18 years old and known for this dash problem (I got the same sticky issue with the steering wheel and radio volume knob). Appreciate the video.

    * Sodium Carbonate (soda ash) in Oxy Clean or Pool pH Buffer work fine too Along with Isopropyl Alcohol also. The pool buffer doesn't have the sickeningly sweet smell. You need to reseal it though or it comes back !!! I used Car Guys brand. Worked great. 👊😎👍

    That seems like an amazing product. How many layers is it possible to do with the quantity of paint you get? How long did it take to completely dry? Thanks a lot for the video!

  • @solostudios3160

    @solostudios3160

    The drying process didn’t take very long at all and in terms of paint coats, I probably could’ve done more. it’s pretty thin stuff so I would actually recommend more coats than what I did.

    I initially considered replacing the dash all together but it would have been pricey and with the way Toyota does their vehicles I would have had to disassemble practically the whole car to install it.

    Might as well spend the extra money and get a new one at that point. The whole point of these chemical fixes is to avoid what is such a huge job of removing the part itself.

    I recall it says in the instructions not to paint over the passenger airbag seams. I was looking to do this myself and was wondering if you worried about that at all?

  • @solostudios3160

    @solostudios3160

    Ай бұрын

    I didn’t paint across any factory seems as the dash is all one piece. I definitely would use precision around the seams, but the paint is so thin, and the rubber dashboard is so melted already that the paint likely wouldn’t make much of a difference as long as you don’t let it pool in the cracks.

    So, after about a year, it definitely looks better than used to, but I should’ve done multiple more coats. I park my car outside and it gets a lot of sun through the day so that probably doesn’t help.

    Will it get sticky again in the future?

  • @miguelrosado8725

    @miguelrosado8725

    The sun (heat) is the main reason for the dash to get damaged like that, so if you have your car always on the sun, then yes, sooner than later, it will get sticky again

    It wasn’t a recall. That would have been too much like doing the right thing and would have cost Toyota loads of money. Instead they did what they called a ‘warranty extension’ is what I’ve found out. That means no notification sent out to the many people with the affected vehicles. People would have had to go to a dealer and bring it up. Very underhanded by the company if you ask me. I’m stuck with a shiny dashboard that reflects on the window and makes it very difficult to see when the sun is out. I’m on KZread looking for a solution.

I reached out to Toyota last year and they will not help with the issue anymore. I did not know it even was an issue since I bought it from someone that kept it in the garage in NY!
