GWM Tank 300 - first drive

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

#GWM #GWMtank #tank300
This is GWM's Tank 300 and it's a pretty interesting small-mid sized offroader. In this video I explain what it is, show some of its features, and try not to get overly grumpy as I use a small amount of time allocated to test drive, figure out the car works and the car and understand its Chinese all at the same time.
I'm very interested in your views; should Great Wall bring this to Australia or not, and what would you pay for it? What do you think of Chinese cars?

I live in China for 16 years i have great walls 2019 Havel H6 for nearly 3 years which as a British driver of over 30 years I drive it hard. The H6 is an Awesome vehicle amazing quality. So decided to stick with Great Wall as I have been following them for some years here. I have already been to check out the Tank 300 well worth it, I will be getting one! There are 3 model versions the mid range is best for off road, top range is a city version has some extra features you really don’t want off road, like retracting side steps that can get damaged and wheel arches are the same colour as the car so easy to scratch , also I think the city version has a few extra tech features like the self park. They tell me it can go into water up to 80cm which is half way up the front lights and top of wheel arches. Here its 210,000 RMB. I will be going for a test drive next time and get them to give me a full look around with questions answered.

It does have some serious potential. If nothing else it goes to show how much the mainstream industry drip feeds us really available 4WD technology to keep them in business with endless refresh cycles. A winch, twin diff locks, underbody protection, recovery points etc from the factory is seen as a WoW factor but in 4WD vehicle this should all be standard, or a factory option at the very least. The best we get from the big boys is "special edition black trim and a limited edition sticker kit' and a slick marketing campaign.

@@geepuller1 thank you for your guidance. However point of order; dictionary definition of technology : the use of science in industry, engineering, etc., to invent useful things or to solve problems : a machine, piece of equipment, method, etc., that is created by technology. Then again if you watch the video against the perspective of my comment in is entirety you will see the extensive electronic/IT technology you are eluding as being the only meaning of the word is clearly only inferred in this context e.g. adaptive cruise control, surround cameras, AEB etc, etc. The mechanical technology was listed because they are common and inexcusable omissions from a lot of locally distributed 4WD vehicles in addition to the massive electronics suite on the Tank has as standard. My comment was a short response to state an observation, not a critical analysis with a detailed and thoroughly accurate precise of the review. It was a brief comment. Thanks again.

Nothing wrong with the engine/transmission etc. but I heard there will be a 2.4 Diesel engine going to fitted to the tank 300, making 135kw and 480nm from 1500-2500. Think the diesel coming to market in end of 2022 Chinese market. Also if you look at the fuel cap area, some people mentioned you can see the GWM left a some sort of point for adblue.

You mention that the GWM ‘Ute’ does not have a 2h mode. If you run the drive mode in “Eco” it runs purely in 2wd, no torque on demand splitting between the front and rear. Purely rwd. And another fun fact, you can also activate the rear diff lock on the Ute in Eco mode and use it outside of a normal 4wd setting at “normal” road speeds. Not that this is a good idea, of course 😂🤷‍♂️

It ks common chinese car manufacturers problem, the overseas markets have so much difficulty issies for them, meanwhile, domistic market is quite huge for them at this stage. Dont forget, china is the world largest automobile market, even bigger than USA+ Canada+Australia+Germany.... Also, chinese economy is still increasing rapidly, thats means the total sales of new vehicles will keep increasing in next few years. Their local brand would love to dominate domistic marke5first and then look elsewhere. The other reaso5i think is because the history, 10 years ago, chinese auto manufacturers tried to develop overseas markets, but failed pretty much in .ost of develped country. So, even now, they have much better quality, design, feature and high tech stuff comparing 10 years ago, they still kond of warrying about it. So they may wanna do it right. And wait a little bit maybe a good idear for chinese brand, simply because their development speed os faster than most of others, they are catching up with top brand auto companies in rapid pace. Maybe in another 5,to 10 years, chinese cars will be just as good as Japanese and koreans, but they have better AI feature, electric gadgets, more luxury interior design and better materials, due to local cheaper supplies.

true offroading needs third party support and parts availabilty. Nothing else matters. If Great Wall, can get the 4WD community access to parts and repairs quickly, then this will sell like hotcakes. Warranty will be important. You want GWM to have your back as a new car owner. They could win over a lot of people.

I live in Far North Queensland. End of the year, beginning of the next, I will change my Rubicon close to its end of life. I would definitely consider the Tank 300, should it be available then... I like the look and features to better than the Rubicon, off road capabilities excluded. I also like the fact that it is a little shorter. Equipped with some Cooper's AT3, it should be just fine. I just wish they'd stick a 2.5T Petrol in there for good measure, as for health reasons, I can't drive a diesel..!!

I bloody love it. I think they should bring an English speaking one plus an expert to show how it works. Iron out the noisy rear dig feature. Enable lockers separately. And make sure the hill descent can be turned off. Then that will sell it no problem. The rear cargo access seems blocked on the sides and floor if you want to put a fridge in and drawers.

Looks interesting, provided it's cheap. The drivetrain underneath looks like 20yo Toyota, and unfortunately the engine is very underpowered for it's size. This car would really benefit from a 2.0lt Turbo Diesel, as the petrol engine is low on HP and Torque for it's size. I don't know what the kerb weight is, but I would expect it's in excess of 2,000kg so would 0-100kmh would be around 13 seconds?

Lol, found on road dead. The price you looking is the SWB configuration, you are looking for couple grand more for the LWB configuration. The same price for Tank 300 is equivalant to the LWB Bronco. Oh, the hard top? That set you back another few hundred bucks. And the bare bone Bronco is running on open dif., and the front locker is not available on lower trim. Good luck matching the capability of locker. I say singular, because the base tank 300 only has a rear lock with transfer case, the front lock only for mid and high trim. Not sure what the 30k SWB Bronco is good for... Mall crawling?🤣

@@user-jh6vt8vx4v Interesting points you make, and I can respect that. I respect those who respond without aggression and with valid points as you did in your response. To clarify, the Tank 300 has a beautiful design, as it is my understanding that someone who had worked on the Bronco design also contributed to the Tank 300 design and hence the similarity. If it were sold here in the USA, I would surely consider it if it is as capable, durable and reliable as the advertising claims. So please try to enter the US market, as another Chinese manufacturer already has done. 👊🏼💯💯💯💯

It looks pretty good and presumably quite good value for money. The automatic transmission, is it a torque converter type, or some other type? If a torque converter type, do you know if there is transmission lockup in the higher gears on the road? Possibly a very good solo or double touring vehicle and if fitted out with a light rooftop tent, then you will be laughing. To be honest, diesel could be a big sway in this country. If you really head out in the sticks and go to interesting places, then diesel is the go. However, if the proposed market in this country is the around town drop the kids off at school, then petrol is liveable; just.

I don't know what sort of auto it is...the information at the event was simply "here's a Google translate of the public website". I later found, and translated the Chinese owner's manual which had more detail. Don't think lack of diesel is an issue. A fuel-efficient petrol in a smallish car, 80L tank, 8-speed auto...should be ok.
