Thank you Sir, for being a Giant in which young whipper snappers like me have been able to stand on the shoulders while serving after you. I’m an old but younger than y’all Jarhead, Lieutenant Rod Langley is my Father in Law and served in your Company or Battalion. He pops in the video at about the 10:09 mark. He is still kicking around, golfing mostly. Thank you again Sir for doing what most would not. Semper Fidelis

My grandpa was a curly headed mexican guy named Rogelio Salinas. Called him Roger. He left in September 1968 because he stepped on a bomb and lost his leg. While in the hospital he was told his men died in a boat accident where the Vietnamese bombed the ship killing everyone aboard. I wonder if anyone knew my gramps and if anyone knew the group of men who died in that ship

My Dad arrived in Vietnam in March of 1968 and was assigned to Co B 3rd BN 47th Infantry 9th Infantry division. Of the many stories he told me, the two that stays in my the most are when his unit was out on patrol and came upon a dozen Vietcong who taking a break, they were sitting in a circle eating and their weapons were laid on the ground off to the side and out of reach!!!! BIG MISTAKE!!! They made Charlie pay for it. My Dad said they opened on them with everything they had. That day they took NO PRISONERS. It was a very bloody mess, as my Dad explained the events of what happened that day, his voice became lower and lower.....and the last thing I heard him say was "that really bothered me"....God bless him and the men he served with. My Dad would earn a host of medals, including the CIB, a purple heart etc...he retired after 20 years with the rank of E7. He passed away in Nov of 1983 from colon at the age of 44. I had the privilege of serving with HHC 2ND BN 39TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 9th Infantry Division Ft Lewis Wa 3/78 to 8/80. GOD BLESS ALL those who SERVED with the "Old Reliables"

Got a couple of questions/statements.. I NEVER GOT TO EAT NAVY FOOD OR SLEEP IN A NAVY BED. NEVER HAD ANYONE TO HOSE ME OFF AT THE END OF THE MISSION. Gee, you guys were spoiled rotten. lol. Finally, Who's the blankity blank that set that hooch on fire? Somebody must have had marshmallows.

Hahaha, bed. Amphibs had racks. Most of the time it was so hot below decks we slept on the main deck on a blanket. Navy food wasn't bad though.
