    Just had my first experience with Dhal Puri yesterday at Shantas. As an American from S Florida I have always been familiar with roti and different West Indian dishes but never had Puri! Thank you for this recipe, will be making it when I get back home!

    Hi - like your version of dhall puri - i am from Mauritius n we use turmeric in the yellow split peas hence why the mauritian dhall puri is yellow in colour. Glad to c the other side of the world has their own version😊👏

    Butter burns very quickly so I wouldn't recommend it. You can use ghee instead.

    Oh boy! I had completely forgotten how much I loved roti and dhal puri. I had a Guyanese friend back in the 90's who introduced me to a really good restaurant in Toronto we used to go to after work regularly. I live in a much smaller city now, without many options for different culture's food, so I'm going to have to try this recipe myself. I saw the video title pop up and I was, hey, that sounds familiar, is it what I think it is? Yep - yummy flatbreads. Now I'd better check out your other recipes and see if you have a great filling idea. Thanks!

    I would say about 10 inch circle. You have to be mindful of how thin you're rolling it, if it's too thin, it will tear and the filling will spill.

    I'm St. Lucian and so this isn't part of my food culture but I've been learning to making these. However my peas are grainy when I blend in food processor and so it makes holes in the dough when I roll it out

    I've had that issue in the past but through trial and error I've been able to get it to the right consistency. I usually sift through the mixture once I'm done and discard any bits that weren't ground properly.

    She did show us what the right pea consistency should feel like. It also appears that the peas were dried out before she blended them.. and short pulses should do the trick. Try again.. you’ll get it right in the end. 😊

    lady, this is exactly how we were taught too, trini style...only oil twice, on the heated sides. press any holes, etc. exactly the same. it it doesn't rise, we don't think it's a good roti. some use oil, or you can melt the shortening too or some use butter. whatever you have. it's NOT supposed to be oily! Tan sabroso.

    I would guess not rolled thin enough or a whole in the dough (as she mentioned).
