    I'm really not gay, but listening to the maverick legend Guy Martin, fellow Northerner, talk about the finer points of TEA MAKING, aswell as his INSANE road racing, makes me question my sexuality more than anything/one else!! Go 'ed Guy lad!!!

    P.s. - since Guy taught me about tea making, I've converted to his method, and provided you don't overdo it with the milk initially, and add the water to the teabag when it's right boiling, - it's almost like drinking tea that's been properly brewed in a teapot! Just a single service. And it's also great if you're in a rush - just leave the teabag in and go about ur business until it's suitably brewed. - Oh Yes My Children, Tea Brewing Is a Science.......

    @mickeybee It's amazing how one guy can influence someones tea-making. I myself am going to try it out, I'm just a little iffy at putting the tea-bag into cold milk...anyway if it's good enough for him then it's good enough for me.

    Granted it does make a better mixture, but you sacrifice some of the tea flavour. Better option is no milk or just a drop.

    I always put the milk in last because I like a stewed cuppa. I think that if you put the tea bag in the cold milk it will prevent the leaves from being scalded. I think the tea leaves should be scalded and then stewed and then the milk goes in last, but I am open to try this the other way around but only because Guy Martin is the greatest living Englishman, and I have a huge mancrush on him. I'm not gay or owt...

    Well I guess ultimately it´s down to personal preference - taste is like a lot of things; very subjective, but good tea is always made only with water, & I guess Guy knows this now after his India trip... Good loose leaf tea, made in a pot, without milk is the correct brewing method. The next argument then is whether to put milk in the teacup before pouring the tea from the pot...!!

    Well like all Englishmen I like milk in my tea... most people have dispensed with the use of a teapot (unless they make for many people like in a workshop) looseleaf replaced by the use of teabags - you drop one in the cup and pour the hot water over it, give it a squeeze and then remove before adding the milk. I could understand adding the milk first with coffee so as not to scorch or burn it but with tea the heat just seems to release flavour from the bag... Guy's theory would have to be explained in more detail for me to be convinced.

    "heat just seems to release flavour from the bag" - Exactly - I have tried with milk first and it´s rank pishwater. There is not enough heat to get the flavours to diffuse out of the bag.. But when I make loose leaf tea, and pour from the pot, the jury´s out on milk in the cup first or after pouring. People should make more loose leaf - the taste is infinitely superior to teabags...

    Been making tea "guys" way for 30 odd years and forever being told it wasnt the right way by tea snobs and those that were simply brought up different.I think tea is like sex,some like it this way some the other.As long as its good its doing the job.

    So milk, teabag then water? I'll have to try it that way. I've been adding milk last just so the teabag doesn't get milk on it >.< I'll have to settle with this scientifically mediocre mixture sitting next to me for now haha.

    Milk first is for the working class, because replacement cups in the "good old days" were expensive for low-income earners, and the risk of cracking a poorly made cup due to boiling hot water was not worth it. Milk first saves the cups (less of an issue now), stops the tea from being scolded, and all that stuff Guy Martin said. Don't be one of those rich pretentious snobs about it, just make a damn brew and get on with it.

    was going to comment that on here then saw this comment. the old adage 'you come from poor stock' if you add milk first as you said 'poor' people added milk to take the shock out poor quality clay pots and cups/mugs from adding boiling water to a them usually stored in freezing winter conditions.. on a molecular level though it's hot water (as has more energy the hotter it is at at a molecular level) first as it releases the tannin's, flavor's etc of the tea better... then sugar as the higher temp releases it better to combine with the tea and water(again on a molecular level because of the increased energy of the heat at a molecular level) compared to the lower temp of milk having had lowered it meaning less energy at a molecular level to do as much 'emulsification'(both ways do this btw by mixing lol)

  • @datboi380

    @datboi380

    going to sound like one of those rich pretentious snobs but this view of making tea is from poor stock just sounding intellectual but whatever way you make it it's both an emulsion mix lol. the only reason milk is done first is from old habits as explained with poor quality cups. to me it's become a hand me down myth thats not true but to each their own....
