This is one of many songs from the US Army's playlist used to force Manuel Noriega out of hiding in a Vatican embassy in Panama City (1990). I'm old enough to remember when this happened. The playlist was extensive and also included Judas Priest, Van Halen, Kiss, Oingo Boingo, Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty and many more. The Army had massive speakers and blasted music 24/7 to force him out. I've seen this method referred to as "music torture." I thought it was ingenious on our military's part.

I can’t post/talk/preach about all things Guns, without going off the reservation. But something Ryan said hit me… this is one of those songs that you hear so often that you get sick of it, but in this case you never get sick of it. And I was thinking, ‘Damn right!!’ But then I realized that there was a point when I did get sick of it. After watching your reaction, I’m all the way back on you just never get sick of it. I appreciate it more now than ever! Loved the breakdown, & the abstract comparisons! Fucking great job gentlemen. Thank you for bringing this song back to me!

I hit Los Angeles from small-town northern California in the summer of '88, and Appetite for Destruction was huge, with "Sweet Child O' Mine" being played everywhere, then this song, then others; I wore out my cassette. Living there, I had a "brush with greatness," (as we used to call it when we ran into celebrities) with a member of the band. There was a comic book store, and SF/Fantasy bookstore, called Forbidden Planet on Ventura Blvd., in Sherman Oaks (an LA suburb in "The Valley"), and they had toys and action figures, too (the first "comic shop" I'd seen that carried such things). I was browsing the books one December in '88 or '89, when Slash came in, shopping for Christmas presents for his nephew(s), based on what I overheard. He was soft-spoken and polite (said "excuse me" as he brushed past me in an aisle), and he bought two action figures (want to say Transformers, but I could be wrong at this stage). Nobody bothered him, but then again, it was pre-cell phones, so he could live sort of anonymously, if he got in and out fast enough.

The first time I heard Guns N' Roses was right before the Appetite for Destruction album was released. It was this song on a pirate radio station, but only part of it and I didn't hear who the band was. A few months later I heard it on our local station here in Sacramento, CA and at the end they said who it was. I was with a girl I was trying to date and sitting out in front of her house with the radio on. She wasn't giving me any sign that she wanted to date me. So when I heard Welcome to the Jungle, all my attention was focused on who the hell was this Guns N' Roses band?? I told that chick I was leaving and never even said good by. I went right to the Tower Records and found the album. Played it front to back at least ten times. It blew away all the hair bands at the time and just sounded real. These guys weren't afraid to use the F-word and they weren't nice. That was what we were looking for. As for the chick? Years later she wanted to date and would hang out at my house.....well she got some attention alright. Thanks for the review guys. You are spot on!

I saw them way back in Reno, and it was a really good concert. They even all sat on a couch at one point and did a jam that way. The only bummer was they sold no alcohol at this concert due to the night before in Sacramento someone threw a bottle or something on stage and it hit Duff the bass player to the point they said he needed stiches. So they drank, beautiful girls came out and served them drinks. Crazy, but good concert. Although i ended up seeing half of it with out the friend I went with. She of course drank a bunch before we came, and wanted to go out for air, or I think to get another drink from her car, and they would not let her back in. She was a friend though and waited for me to come out.

I was a 19 yr old air force enlistee stationed in San Antonio TX when my friends back in St. Louis MO went to see them in concert. Apparently Axle somehow started a riot with the fans in the front row. They got a lot of bad publicity over that. Not sure exactly what year it was 88 or 89. They have hits galore so lot to choose from on what to cover with them but I'll suggest a sleeper that I loved was Mr Brownstone. Sweet child is one of the best songs of all time tho.

Watched them in Knoxville when they opened for Motley Crue. I went to see Crue but unfortunately for them GnR raised the bar too high for Crue to meet. Crue tried so hard to follow that they became pathetic. Before coming on stage they sent someone out to practically beg for girls to come to their bus. Later Tommy drank an entire fifth of whiskey and played drums upside down without missing a beat. The teenies may have believed that crap but anyone familiar with drinking knew better. I'm not saying Crue isn't a great band but I did lose a lot of respect for them that night, as well as some of my hearing. That night the opening band killed it and the headliner killed themselves. I've been a G n R fan ever since.

I lived in Studio City (another LA suburb in the Valley), probably around '93 or '94, and a young couple with a newborn child lived in the apartment next to mine. The guy was there trying to make it in the music industry (he was from Fresno, iirc). He was drummer (?) for a band called Liquid Black, and they were being produced by some big name producer who'd worked with Queen, I think, and other very successful bands. I still have a cassette demo tape of their album that he gave me, and the music wasn't bad. But, the band didn't go anywhere, and I think the family ended up moving back to Fresno. It may not have worked out, but I give him full credit for trying for his dream.

Sebastian Bach s vocal range is unbelievable. . You have to see the video just to see how great this group really are. Perfect from vocals to the drumming . A must see . If you don't you will regret it. Thank you.

And to bring it full circle, it is widely believed that Bach wrote Wasted Time about his very good friend, Steven Adler, recently removed from his position as the drummer for Guns, and his drug addiction ruining his life… and had already ruined his career. I believe there are also videos debunking this theory.

This is an amazing song form the 80’s & 90’s. “Welcome to the Jungle” This is what I hear, “The protagonist is saying if you’re a young adult going into the city by bus. He or she might encounter some unsavory characters, and trick him or her into taking drugs or other unpleasant activities. The protagonist is also saying a Big City can turn into a jungle with drugs, adult industry, prostitution, even stealing…etc.

It’s a great song for sure, but this along with Sweet Child were so overplayed. I know you say you never get tired of it, but I’m much more interested in the deep cuts that they didn’t make videos for that would have been played constantly. It was MTV that really burned me out on the first two singles. It’s a great album though and some of those deep cuts are fire; they all were really. Btw, there’s no way you could get away with that album picture with the girl today. It was provocative back then, but that was the whole marketing point of course.

Thanks to those Parental warning stickers this album was sure to be bought by kids knowing many parents would not be pleased ;) GNR was opening for Iron Maiden in 88 and an iteration of LA Guns/Guns N Roses played the show in Phoenix when GNR had to cancel that and some other shows due to throat issues with Axl, it didn't go well, heh, but Maiden was killer, as always.

So many good songs on this album and Lies with Patience only with the video to understand what that song means. GNR kicked ass! Edit: One note that you need to understand is there is a place in LA called The Jungle. It’s where you go for what you need! Doesn’t matter! Yes and the lyrics “You know where you are? Your in the Jungle baby…your gonna die!” It is a perfect interpretation of that area of LA for sure!!! Don’t get caught up in the Jungle…hard to get out!

You wanna hear another song about Los Angeles? Came out about ten years after this jam? Try AENIMA. By TOOL. And be sure and do the lyric vid. After that, and you're thoroughly depressed, listen to UNDER THE BRIDGE. By The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Why? Because I said so.
